Lets see - they get 2 months off in summer, one week at christmas and another for spring break, five days off for thanksgiving and every other holiday off as well. and dont forget that they each have probably at least a week of PTO to use at their discretion. And they have NO accountability but still want automatic raises regardless.
Give me a break! Time to bust the unions.

Right on! The graduation rate is 50%. That's neither acceptable or anything to "too their horn about."

They dont get two months off they have work shops and have to continue there education during that off school time. During breaks teachers use to set up classroom plans and get a break from SCREAMING BRATS..........They have as much accountability as anyone. If they do something wrong they get fired....As far as kids not doing well that is not teachers fault. 35-40 kids per class room and not enough money for education material is the problem. Most teachers spend alot of there own money buying supplies for classroom.. But hey you nazi fascist far rightser want them working for $5 an hour and no benefits....TYPICAL SLAVE LABOR LOVER...

Yep need to cut the 35-40 kids per room in half. We need to increase number of teachers and raise there pay to fit the responsibility they carry. Walmart workers are the worst I ever seen...BECAUSE THEY MAKE LOW WAGES AND HAVE CRAP BENEFITS AND GET TREATED LIKE SLAVES....Good paid people care and work harder.

half the teachers here want to just collect a pay check...and if the kid needs extra help....well damn them....they sure dont get it. i think most teachers are worthless...and wayyyy over paid....i think they should be evaluated yearly...it might get rid of the sorry ones....

Oh, were they not aware they would have to put up with children even the screaming brats in that job? They have NO accountable, name the last teacher that was fired for ANYTHING. Hell short of being put in prison for sex with students you can't get fired for much. And $75,000 PLUS benefits is far from typical slave labor love. But remember, they are picketing for the children.
In the middle of the highest murder rate in the country and the highest unemployment since the great depression just remember those teachers are leaving the kids uneducated and unprotected from the streets during the day for them, according to those hard working striking teachers.

Time for unions in this country to go straight to hell. Especially teachers. This is a profession that is about children and not money. Don't like it, find another job.

FDR was right when he said UNIONIZING Public Employees would be terrible for America. Now the Unions own the Democrats and the end is nearer and nearer with eacy passing day. Union greed trumps quality public education in the increasingly pathetic Blue States.

Don't blame the Unions. The voters ignored the Union warning label on UnionCrat politicians and elected them.

What a bunch of PIGS....

They say that a 16% increase in pay is not enough,
even though only 1 in *5* 8th graders can read or write.

Let's face facts.... These so-called "teachers" are nothing more than a glorifed set of adolescent BABY-SITTERS, until these teens get a hold of a gun, and do some REAL DAMAGE.

Well, you elected Rahm....Why are you all so surprised at the outcome??

Most private school teachers make much less. They would be happy to take the jobs.
Just had to LAUGH at all of the so-called "parents" who have to scramble to find a babysitter while they "are at work".

Heck, in Chicago (proper), there are so many living off of WELFARE, "disability", FOOD STAMPS, DOPE DEALING and GUN RUNNING,
pimpin', hoein', etc., most of those kids don't even HAVE a parent who "works", let alone TWO.

400k kids locked out of skool except for moochelles nutritious lunches, parents scrsambling for babysitters, 26,000 obese red shirted union hogs turning down 16% raises while making the highest teacher salaries in the nation. Just a political ploy by obamas ex chief of staff to gin up the politics so obama gets a poll bump when he comes flying in AF1 and publicly tells rham to give em what they want saving the day. emmanuel and obama you know cooked this up together. Stinks like last weeks socks.

That's BS especially in Chicago where a teacher's average pay is $75,000 and the ordinary citizen makes $35,000 and when you factor in where Chicago ranks in reading comp and in graduation rates it's even more proof that Chicago teachers are way over paid for what they do. That might be part of the reason they would rather strike and not teach at all then have to actually be evaluated.
From what I read, that's $75,000 not including benefits.

In Canada, well the city of Toronto, teachers make an avg. of $83,000 + benefits. Currently in the province of Ontario, there is a fuss between the govt and teachers....teachers have threaten to strike. The provincial govt is planning to pass legislature to ban the teacher strike......In my opinion, and I'm not sure of all the issues,$83,000 a yr is a very good salary for a teacher!
But of course, public unions have become robbers of us all. In Ontario, there's over 6,000 public employees making over a $100,000+, and when I say 100,000+, oh boy the heads of some public offices such as the heads of Medical boards etc make $400,000+ etc....

On a federal level....Air Canada employees.....federal govt legislated them back to work. Canada Post potential strike...again, govt stopped it and legislated them back to work.

The point I am making is that public service unions should no longer be able to hold the public as hostage anymore to their demands. I believe in fair wages and fair raises where warranted, but some of these people have become greedy....in your country and mine. Shut these people up, legislate them back to work.

Chicago teachers complain that it is unfair to judge them by the academic achievement of their students because most of their students are Africans. If that be true, why are the politicians paying them so much of our hard earned tax money?

LOL....You do know that 75% of wages for most school districts os for the PHD supers and the front office people right..........TOP HEAVY AND WASTE AT THE TOP....Teachers dont make enough if you look at other fields of work that require same degree of education...
What jobs are you talking about that teachers can fit into with the same kind of education. Pa teacher mills ? Try the peace corps.

The problem is at the top , from the paid off legislators , the PSEA payoffs and their regional offices staffed with luggage to keep the teachers in line and the higher executive jobs in big money . We know all that but it doesn't qualify for a free for all catch-up by the teachers to jump on the carnage their union bosses and crooked legislators created .
