Beverly is arguably one of the most family-friendly neighborhoods in the city, so, yeah, if you're looking for nightlife, it's not for you. But for young couples looking to grow their broods, it's tough to beat.

I love beverly. Born and raised right off 105th and Prospect. I moved to the Northside 5 years ago. If I didn't work so far I would move back. Thankfully, my parents still live there so I get to visit a lot!

Beverly/Morgan Park is a fantastic place to live for young and young at heart. There are so many great local retail, restaurant, cafe and entertainment opportunities and if that's not enough and you still need a "downtown" fix you can jump on the Metra at any one of 7 stops and be downtown in 30 minutes or less! Check out www.beverlymorganpark.net for all the info. on living, dining, shopping and socializing in the area.

I think that Beverly has the highest concentration of beautiful homes in the entire city. I'm surprised it's not even more popular. The problem is the public school system. Some great Catholic schools but not everybody wants to pay tuition (or is Catholic). People I know who live there don't have faith in the public high school.

No one I know down there has gone to Morgan Park HS...they all go to Catholic schools, a Magnet school elsewhere in the city, or MPA.

There are also quite a few who attend Lab School in Hyde Park.

Good article. Beverly is Chicago's best kept secret for upscale housing at affordable prices, and 30 minutes to downtown on the Metra.

I went to Morgan Park HS in the late 90s. I think it would safe to say that you don't know everybody.

Being honest I think it is safe to say there is a strong reluctance among the non-black population to send their kids there. Obviously there are exceptions.

Having gone there do you feel the reluctance is warranted at all?

With a few exceptions, the people out there are more like Chicago in the '50's with friendly neighbors, people who buy a place and stay there, older men who still tip their hat and greet you while walking down the sidewalk, etc.
The opposite of the north side lakefront neighborhoods where everyone gets out of the elevator every night, into their cubicle apartments and rarely speak to each other.
I lived in one high rise where a middle aged man died and no one knew it until they smelled him a week later.
Sorry to be so gross but there is a terrible fear of intimacy/neighborliness in these type buildings that is depressing.
No feeling of community whatsoever.

Manda Walsh is a complete psycho sk*nk. She punched a neighbor's windows to prove she's "tough", and dry humps black guys for dollah bills and puts it on twitter.. Class act. Only thing wrong with beverly is that bucktoothed inbred lookin brat.
