I am a Cubs fan, but the times I have been at Wrigley, it can feel like a Friends convention. One time, the best break in the game was when Ronny Woo Woo would cut into everyone's conversation when he would let out his famous cheer. Regulars weren't surprised, but talk about blank stares from the "other" Cubs fans...

I don't know, this third-generation Cubs fan watches the games and sees 40,000 people cheering (or moaning, or whatever) at all the right times. You can only do that if you're paying attention to the game. I'm so sick of this stereotype of Cubs fans. Derrick ought to shut up and concentrate on why he can't get a hit with runners in scoring position.

I'm sorry, I watched the interview on ESPN and, although, Obama made his snide comments with a smile, they weren't appreciated.
I say, dumb move, buddy. You have now alienated a team with a national fan base in an election year.
I want to see Michelle and Barack Obama hosting a reception and photo-op on the White House lawn next year for the 2008 World Champion Chicago Cubs.

Obama has a right to be a sox fan but he insulted me and many others. What an idiot to make these comments. He has helped me make up my mind on who I will vote for -- and it ain't him. I read an article about him being an "empty suit" and now I believe it. I will go to Wrigley Field and toast a beer to his losing the election.

I think McCain rooted for Detroit in the 1908 World series.

Hey Derek -- how about getting a hit once in a while when you have men in scoring position -- we all know why you are voting for obama anyway

So wacko Obama thinks all Cub fans go to the games just to get drunk, and Lee agrees. Someome should tell Lee and Obama that a lot of people go to the Cub games to see them win and support the club.

Word to Cubs: Get Obama to sing during the stretch SOON! Then we'll see if he knows the North Side :)

isn't that stereotyping??? to say all Cubs fans are drunken idiots who only are at the game to party? well, I'm insulted and this seems to be in direct 'violation' of the 'watch what you say' mentality this campaign season. and Derek, that wasn't too smart, speaking out against Cub fans...are you a Sox fan?

I guess not winning a World Series in 100 years makes one super sensitive. He was just making some Sox-Cubs banter ... and he was right, to boot.

Ah, Game 1 of a World Series. You can't beat the excitement ... seen two of them in Chicago. How many for you, Cub fans?

I surely hope a person does not base a decision about Obama based on his Cubs/White Sox fans comments. If so, how sad.

I have been a cub fan since the early '60s. Everytime I go to the park, the first thing I check out is the scenery. The next thing is to order up a suds.

Come on Cub fans lighten up. The majority of us are there to have a good time and enjoy the finer looking things in life. This is probably the first year in a long time when the majority of us are concentrating on the game. I agree with Obama, we are here to party and have fun.

Go Cubs!!!

Hey, The Truth, since when were Sox fans smart enough to think? I can't recall a time when Cub fans followed what Sox fans did? I have never seen a father-son festivity on Wrigley field.

I disagree totally with Lee and the next president. I drive 240 miles to see the Cubs at Wrigley play and my 2 sons and I watch the game. If it were "tourist" coming to the game you woulnd't hear all the noise from the crowd. Tourist don't get into games like real everyday "come to the ballpark" Cub fans do! As far as the person who complained about Obama making a dumb statement and now you won't votw for him..would you prefer that he lied like most politicians would have? He took a stand at least, so he's a Sox fan, what's that got to do with who you vote for?

So there is a problem with "tourists" coming to watch the Cubs? These are probably have been faithfully watching the Cubs on WGN in their home towns and finally have the opportunity to see them in person...I was in that position once as a Cubs fan in California. Now in Chi, I have loved being at the game! GO Cubs and keep the Sox fans South...
