LW1 - i'm at my paretns for dinner nearly every week and often enough on other days during the week. We hlep set & clear the table, help with dinner, etc. I don't answer the phone unless it's someone i know or konw that mom's waiting for a call.they have told us we're not guests, which translates to forage for snacks or beverages.

LW needs to use her words, at the very least, and maybe set up a family "conference" wehn eveyrone is around to set some new ground rules. maybe teh kid brings the dog around not realizing mom doesn't like it there.

L1: Your son is the same loser your husband is. Why don't you try some actual parenting for once in your life? STOP CATERING TO YOUR MOOCHER ADULT KID. He's treating you like a hotel and you're tolerating it. Either stop tolerating it, stop living in the kitchen, stop catering to him, or STOP COMPLAINING. That's your only choice. That, and your husband needs a serious talking to, because it's obvious to see a broken cog in the famiily machine.

L2: MYOB. To the Nth degree.

L3: Michele "I'm Bat Guano Loco" Bachmann announced this morning that she will not seek reelection! This liberal rejoices, as do her REpublican friends who think Bachmann is an embarrassment to her party.

The one that drives me nuts: they're coming in to town. Before they get here, J drags out the air mattress, fills it, and puts sheets on it. I'm like "Whyyy are you doing that?(Fiance) is (SIL's) guest. Let her do it." "Oh, I just want to get it out of the way so she's not using the air pump (it's loud) after you've gone to bed." Okay, well, that's something THEY need to take in to consideration. Let me get pissed. They'll remember next time.
I don't know, when I was a kid and had guests, it was up to me to prep for it, make sure they had everything they needed, etc.
DO they sleep together at your place?

Have you told them to put the dogs in the yard?.
Yard? And if the dogs are indoor dogs? I have 2 pugs. They go in the yard to pee. They are not kept outside. My mom is not a dog person, but she knows better than to expect me to put them outside. She allows them becaue she knows it would be a problem for me if I could not.

That's how my mom was with my dog. I'm fortunate that my dog was low-maintenance, well-behaved, and quiet. Otherwise, she would not have been allowed in my parents' home.

The LW does not like having the dogs underfoot in the kitchen when she is cooking. If the yard doesn't work, then perhaps they have an attached garage that would suffice. If that doesn't work, they could use a baby gate to keep the dogs confined to the family room and out of the kitchen. Somewhere, there is a compromise. Not knowing LW's house plan, I don't know exactly what it is.

Why cant they handle a few hours outside in the shade? They're already butt-ugly.

You've given more thought to possible solutions than the LW has.

Yeah, I thought that was odd. I never heard of an "inside dog" unless, of course, it lived in an apartment or something like that. But a dog that has a yard but just gets let out to pee and brought in? That's strange! Dogs belong outside, at least sometimes, for fresha ir and too explore.

And you're both wrong. If my friend saw my wife doing the town with another man, I'd expect him to tell me.

If you saw your friend's bf or hubby having drinks with another woman, you wouldn't say anything? Some great friends you two are.....

I think most small dogs are inside dogs. THey go outside to go to the bathroom, go for a walk with the owner, and that's about it.

I don't think we should roll out the red carpet for them. She wants to bring a guest, she can make sure his bed is set up.

*sigh*. It wouldn't be that bad if I didn't always have to be the bad guy. I'm beyond tired of constant houseguests and now with the fiancé, it's doubled the pain in my ass. I can't wait to get out of here for the summer.

Not that they don't like going outside, but dogs typically want to be where their owners are. My German shep mix was an indoor dog. She could be outside as much as she wanted, but generally, being a herder, she wanted to be where I was and she would have preferred it if all adults stayed in the same room, pleasethankyouverymuch.

Heh well I no longer allow my cats to go outside to roam, so my cats don't even get to do THAT. I take 'em out on harnesses/leashes. Mia just wants to eat grass and roll around on the sidewalk, Rose immediately heads to the back fence to sniff and check out the smells left by the other neighborhood cats (one of them looks like a tough sob--ears are all mangled, etc.) and squirrels.

My cats dont roam either. There are imaginary fences that they know not to cross (yes, occasionally the do, but when you catch them right before they cross it, its reinforces the concept). They lounge out, hunt lizards and wonder what all the poor cats are doing.
