Two automatic pistols? Those are pretty rare. Maybe Deb mean semi-automatic pistols?

Earlier today, the suspect was Rodney Moore of Merrilville, Ind. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chic...

Now the suspect is Raymond Maddox, of Glenwood, Illinois.

Of course, the Tribune also reported that the suspect was unidentified as of late Monday.

So, besides whether the officer was shot, are there several dead suspects? If not, what is the source of the identifications?

Mr. Maddox was a member of the Gangster Disciples street gang, which cease fire likes to call an "organization."

Burn in h-e-l-l Raymond.

[[He was identified as Rodney Moore, 34, of Merrillville, Ind., a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office said.]]

[[Skokie Police Sgt. Frederick Brehmer said Raymond Maddox, 37, of the 1000 block of East 194th Street in Glenwood shot at the officer with two automatic pistols but missed.]]

so there are your two different ID's. i'm not sure how reliable the medical examiner is on these kinds of things. i also don't know, when your going to rob a bank, do you bring your wallet with your ID in it? seems like that would clear things up rather quickly. on the other hand, this guy sounds like a real mutt and probably had a few different aliases. anyway, if he had ID, i assume the cops would hang onto that and so their version would be better than the coroner's.

other than that, there is the problem of older versions of stories lingering on the website, resulting in differing and sometimes conflicting reports.

Good job Tribune. Way to run with a story before finding out if it is true.

Why two names. Because that's what askhole criminals do. Regardless of the guy's name is, he was a piece of garbage sent to where he belongs.

Yeah...greatly missed by his gang banger, thug, criminal family. My heart is bleeding for them. Oh boo hoo, poor criminal got what was coming to him. He's lucky a cop killed him and he didn't get caught by one of his "rivals" and get worked over before getting killed. His family should be happy about that.
One less armed criminal on the street...I'M happy about that.

I thought guns were banned in Chicago. Oh, this was Skokie. Anyway, cops never get shot in Dearborn, MI (bordering Detroit). What a mess here.

Oh wait. Upon further investigation, nobody was shot and there was no cop saved by a bullet proof vest. As a matter of fact, there was no bank at the supposed robbery location on the written report - it's around the corner. The suspects car was black-cherry, not burgundy. His name is not Raymond (even though listed as such on his birth certificate), it's Ray-Ray (as on his "driver's license"). So much mis-information that we'll have to declare a mistrial. Case dismissed(but civil rights have been violated so open another one).

That isn't the problem. There was a controversy yesterday about one version of the story saying both that it was Moore and the suspect was identified. That story went down soon after it was pointed out. However, the "Moore only" story stayed up, so I was able to post a url for it.

Hence, the archiving policy, if any, is inconsistent.

However, there was enough evidence left on the Tribune site to show that the reportage was also inconsistent. While you may have a theory for why, it is for the "journalists" to explain the discrepancy.
