All true.

But the consensus is, it's okay for him to cheat on her anyway, apparently.

(Remember, they all made that decision before taking any of this into account)

Just curious. Did you arrive at these decisions before or after you had sex with a human (not B-U B) and did drugs, inc. cigarettes and alcohol?
Or, you never did either of these due to your moral stance.

Probably but... gotta pay for the abortion somehow... No need for the clothes anymore...

Are we talking morality or fiscal sense?...

Not if you're married.

Or dating me.

Hey, I never claimed *I* was moral. I was merely pointing out society's general moral attitudes of certain things. So stop trying to drag ME into this. My own moral compass was never the issue.

For the record, I don't think it is OK to cheat.

Over 90% of adults in the U.S. have sex before marriage. I highly doubt that over half the population thinks its immoral.

I think that statement highlights exactly what the issue was.

"My own moral compass".

So then you agree that each INDIVIDUAL has their own moral compass and morality is a personal thing and can differ from one person to another.

LW states that "she has a chronic disease and other medical problems" but we don't know what the chronic disease is or what the other medical problems are. Maybe she has lupus and severe allergies. Actually, we don't know if she is sick at all, or if that's just what LW's friend told her. Maybe that's just what he says to attract outside women and keep them from expecting more. We also don't know if she's still having sex with her husband despite her illnesses. Nor do we have any information to conclude that she's going to expire any time soon. In any case, LW is the one who can extract herself from this nowhere situation, and she should.
Agreed. "Chronic" does not necessarily mean "terminal."

The distinction edog is missing, I believe (and I'm sure many will correct me if I am wrong), is not so much how we personally feel but rather what actions we can place on others when we don't have all the facts and a general description. It's not so much how we would live our lives given a certain set of circumstances, but rather what we expect other HAVE to do.

I would think the Republican public platform would place it in the immoral column so...

Makes us all liberals, I guess. Heh! Including edog!!

The whole thing with that letter, for me, is that she was breaking up with him at one time. It doesn't matter whether the wife is chronic or not, she wasn't comfortable at one time and said that the BF talked her back into the situation. She just sounds goofy and the whole sickness doesn't even play into it. At some point you need to take ownership on your decisions and not blame your BF. IMNSHO.

Exactly! She's the one who wrote in asking for advice, not him. And like I originally posted, she knows what she should do. She's just too stuck in her rut to do it.

Just because 90% engage in immoral activity, doesn't make that activity moral.

Each individual has their own moral compass. Society as a whole determines what is moral for that society.

You are missing something.

Let me try to explain it this way: Sallys1ut might think there's nothing morally wrong with getting gang-banged by a group of frat boys every Friday night.

That doesn't mean her behavior is moral.

Get it now?

Doubt it.

Society as a whole has not deemed abortion immoral. The lines are split. Same for death penalty, homosexuality. And if you think that 90% of the population thinks premarital sex is immoral even though the do or have done it, you're just nuts.
