1. Why should he buy the cow when he gets the milk for free. And the welfare and food stamps she gets as a single mother would be gone too. That's the main reason he doesn't want to get married $$$$$$

2. Give it a try. If you don't have a job offer work as a temp. You can always move back. Many people do.

3. Whiny sick people are a pain. So are these rehashes.

My situation didn't involve the couple themselves. I was talking to someone else in a completely different context and wanted to identify R and why I knew so much about his background. I could have said R, my girlfriend J's husband,, but just saying R, a friend of mine or R, J's boyfriend didn't "sound" right.

LW1: I like RACE's idea of the LW asking her bf/partner/baby daddy to marry her, but I doubt that she would do it. She afriad he'd say no and then the status quo would be ruined.

LW2: You should try it. Home and pets will always be there; this opportunity probably won't.

LW3: And for some people it's just another way to be an attention wh*re.

Don't you have to work at a professional firm to become a partner?
Nope.

Two people with a common business purpose can be business partners. It happens in the construction industry all the time.

SO or longtime bf would be better than partner, IMO. I just cringe when straight folks refer to their SO as their partner.
I had a colleague of mine out in Boulder refer to her boyfriend as her partner. I must have given her the "what; are you gay" look because she immediately said boyfriend after she just referred to him as her partner.
I was at a wedding of a friend a few years back. The table at the reception was a mix of B's friends from work and non work situations. One guy sat down and made introductions of the 2 women he was with, "This is my wife K and my partner A" His wife glared , he turned bright red and A looked at him like he had lost his mind.

Hilarious.

1. You didn't get this loser to marry you BEFORE you had kids. Oh, sorry, I guess the LW is the LOSER.

2. You're 24, grow up and leave home already.

3. Obviously this person cried "wolf" once too often.

When LW1 and father of children reexamined their relationship, they
decided:
(a) since they lived in a "common law" state, they didn't need to get married.
(b) for tax reasons, they were able to provide better for the children,
each as "unmarried head of household" than as "married filing" jointly or separately.
(c) by shielding each other and raising those children together, they
are protecting themselves and those children from falling into untrustworthy hands, whether they marry or not.
or
(d) other
