If Ocasio had done his homework and made sure Dejesus was clean as to living in the ward, no controversial issues such as the gay issue, and who knows what else, Ocasio may have secured it.

But, since that failed. And according what this story is saying that 4 others have already been interviewed. Ocasio should not get a second chance and now select his wife. Ocasio should have done that in the first place. Its almost certain that Gutierrez gave a letter to Daley for Dejesus and now Ocasio wife. Please, this wheeling and dealing must stop with Gutierrez and now his former brother in law Maldonaldo may want the spot.

The 26th Ward belongs to the voters, not to Luis Gutierrez, he was the former Alderman, back in the late 80's, and don't forget, Gutierrez became 1st Ward Democratic Committeeman just a couple of years ago, then gave it up.

The point of the matter is the 26th Ward, Mayor Daley needs a new bright fresh start. Don't let Humboldt Park fool you. The 26th ward is no longer Puerto Rican controlled. Look at the 2000 census figures and the ward has now changed, with young urban professionals, mixed etc, Mexicans all over the 26th Ward map.

Look at the 2010 map when that takes effect. The ward will who can imagine what it will look like, but it will not be Puerto Rican dominated. Example, look at Division Street, Ashland west into Humboldt Park and how its changed for the better.

Its a new community, mostly, with Grand Ave, Smith Park, Urkranian Village, wow, its changed Mr. Mayor. So hopefully as you mentioned during the Willis Tower grand opening you stay with your words that Change is good. The 26th Ward needs Change, a fresh new start, and it will make you look better by not appointing family members.

Ocasio wife probably has a good resume, but she should of stepped up before Dejesus, now it seems that its only a desperate act to have control of a ward, and that should not be the case, it belongs to the community.

What can you say about this? Let us not forget the Strogers, among many others. This is what makes politics in Chicago stink. This is our corruption tax.

Where is our equal representation? One person one vote. Oh yes this is Chicago.

The experiment with democracy in Cook County has failed. It seems that the governed mass of proles prefers royalty that passes title to family members over choosing leaders by election. The founding fathers are spinning in their graves.

Wouldn't it be better to just auction the seat off on eBay?

What makes Ocasio's wife qualified for the position. Do we really need to pile on yet more nepotism on top of an already bloated patronage-ridden corrupt regime. Why not just replace all alderman with trained farm animals so that they bah bah like the sheep they are when Daley needs votes during that pesky little thing called democracy.

I suspect Ocasio planned this all along. He and his wife know the public is sick of this nepotism crap. So to delect some heat he can now say, "gee, I tried to appoint the gay basher, but I was shocked to learn he doesn't live in the ward..."

This is a long established pattern. Official wins election, quits mid-term, appoints relative. Two pensions for them. Lipinski had this down to an art form.

All is not lost. The only thing for ward residents to do is run the appointee out on a rail in 2011. They did it when that bum Beavers appointed his daughter, it can be done again.

Someone ought to point out to this idiot that the position can't be kept in the family. He doesn't own it. What a moron.

Doesn't Mayor Daley have any family members who he can appoint to the position?

Here's a novel ideo, maybe we should let THE PEOPLE elect a successor. This is supposed to be a democracy.

This is ridiculous. Daley has already appointed over 19 Aldermen. We should have a referendum stating" if a Mayor appoints a person to fill an Aldermanic vacacy, that cannot run for the seat for two election cycles". A caretaker Alderman is given an unfair advantage over their soon to be opponents.

that's what we need a family member following an elected official into office. Just like Erkel and we see the results of that decision.

Hold and election..... let the people decide.

The Democrats are at it again -

THEY, not the voters, are going to pick an alderman.

They did it with Todd Stroger, who got the Cook County president's seat from his ailing father who had just won the prinaries while unconscious in his hospital bed - a secret Dems successfully kept.

Then the Democrats took away a promise to let voters fill Obama's vacant seat after Blago was ousted. But then the Dems decide to fill the seat themselves and crown Roland Burris a new senator.

Gov. Quinn got the nod to fill Blago's seat.

Oh yeah, Illinois Democrats are not about democracy. They don't want voters voting - they'll do the voting, and tax raising and serve as thieving nannies to Illinoisians.

Ain't it a hoot that the victim groups are now fighting each other for power like pigs at a trough.

No Dems in 2010

STEVE GUERRA is not his real name, he made up the name along time ago to go with his FALN terrorist pals.

I don't mean to tar all Puerto Ricans with the same brush, but why do the PRs with ties to violent criminals wind up with govmnet jobs. Luis G sponsored convicted FALN terrorist to work for Blago, he was the fisrt kicked out by Quinn. Anyone know what he's doin now?
He went to jail rather than tell what he knows about about more than a hundred bombs and many murders, including policemen.
His name was STEVEN GUERRA, and I want to know DID HE MURDER Marjory Rice and others at Laguardia.
and dont forget Eric Holder, Obama's Atty Gen fixed a pardon for the other PRs, ones that probably should have faced a firing squad.

I actually feel bad for Daley sometimes. I can just imagine the special interest groups that he is constantly put to the wall for. Gays, blacks, latinos....what a mess. Just take a stroll through City Hall any random day and you can see exactly what I mean.
