It is more likely to be a wife who is being catty about calling gym clothing she doesn't like by the most derogatory terms she can find for them.
I'm with Sublime on this. I'm taking the LW at her word. YOU are the one claiming the LW MUST be mistaken and she's spouting off about things she can't possibly understand, and calling them by different names because she simply doesn't know any better.

And what reactions are you talking about? Some people don't notice or care how others look at them. If you were working out in a gym, and some dude walks in with a girdle and pink spandex, you gonna just stare at him with your mouth open the whole time?

Most likely you're just gonna be like "wow, what a freak," and continue with your thigh-master. And I think most everyone else will react the same way. And again, dude just might not care.

So, you're going to tell me that you NEVER said that your family wondered out loud if maybe you were gay?

If thats your position, perhaps you could clear up my confusion and tell us what it was you actually said?

I never once said my family thought I was gay. Once again, you twist what I actually said into something I didn't. I'm done arguing with that.

What possible motive could there be for her to be catty about his clothing if he is wearing appropriate clothing? It makes no sense that she would make out clothing that is not feminine to be as such or why she would have a problem with it in the first place. Are you saying she just doesnít like the colors he wears?
Other than say athletic pants, which are not stretch pants, by any *stretch* of the imagination, I donít know any guys who wear pants of any sort in the gym. Perhaps sweat pants, but even those arenít stretch pants and few folks wear that sort of stuff in todayís day and age and if he is wearing super tight sweat pants, trust me folks would look at him like he's urkle.
Also as I said, anyone who wore a weight lifting belt, would almost certainly not be someone who just joined a gym and they would know why you wear one, which is not for sweating Ö itís for you back and they are usually brown leather, and look anything but feminine. They are also worn by guys who are almost always lifting very heavy weights, not some newbie. Iím also not seeing why or how anyone could mistake that as something that is as feminine as a girdle, even if she did not like it.
I wonder if pants in the gym is something regional. Many people, including guys, wear stretchy athletic-type pants in the gym up here except during the extreme middle of summer. To me, what she describes him as wearing is nothing more than her trying to figure out how to badly describe what I'd see as not uncommon gym wear. I saw several guys out jogging in those types of tighty, spandex pants this morning while I was walking the dog. They are not unusual around here. Personally, I think they make everyone look kind of terrible.

I really don't know what she dislikes about the clothing he's choosing to wear, but I know quite a few women who will be catty about other people's clothing choice by trying to show up the comparison to something that would be inappropriate. It's also not an uncommon way for some women to express their displeasure with someone else's clothing selections.

And really, I don't know if he's wearing a weight belt or some sort of gut control under his pants. If it really is gut control (like a girdle) she really needs to look for the gym bunnies he's trying to impress.

This is why I think LW is mis-reading the clothing thing.

I am 63. I know what a girdle is. I used o own a couple circa 1970. I do not recall seeing one in the stores in teh last 30 years, at least not labeled a a girdle.

There is Spanx. there are "control top" and slimming garments. There are corsets, both sexy and what we use to call long line bras, but I have not seen a girdle, nor have I sen anything lbeled a girdle.

My reference point includes the bigger department stores like Carsons, Nordstrom and Macy's. I shop occasionally in athletic wear departments like Sports Authority and Dick's ( and Lulumon). No girdles.

Therefore, whatever it is that hubby is wearing, it probably is not a girdle.

Sounds to me like Superman outfit or professional wrestling gear.

None of this explains hubby's sexual preferences, but doe go to LW's lack of experience and bias

No. I have no desire to explain, and no desire to set you straight on what I said because you misunderstood the first time.

It has been a couple of years, but I remember him posting about how he HAD to get some gals to go with him to family functions to keep his relatives from thinking he was gay.

Yes ( shudder). I didn't have a rubber one , but I did own a non-panty girdle in high school. I am not sure I ever wore it.My mother bought me " foundation garments" with control panels as part of my trousseau in 1969. I was 5'4" and about 120 lbs.Like I needed those monstrosities. Hah! I never took the tags off the damn things. I cetainly remeber what girdles were/are.

I also never use the brush rollers to sleep in ( or under the dryer)after January 31, 1970. The wedding was February 1. Never again.

LW1: "He is someone I'd love to spend the rest of my life with."
Yet he has given you zero indication that he feels the same way.

"We have been seeing each other for more than a year, and I'd like some sort of commitment."
Oooooh! A whole year?

" I have tried talking to him about it. All he'll say is, "We're committed and monogamous and that's enough, so don't start with me.""
Seems pretty clear to me.

"I have told him I don't want to still be packing for weekend trips to his house -- it's 10 minutes away -- when I'm 80."
Yet he still has not changed his tune.

"I also never know how Jed feels about me."
Cause you're dumb.

"He doesn't compliment me or act like I'm important to him at all."
I wonder why.

"I'm financially stable but would have a better lifestyle if I could share the bills with someone. Marriage is not important,'
Now we get to the nitty gritty. You don't care about marriage, just more money so you can up your lifestyle, despite him being perfectly happy and comfortable with his. Gold digggin bitch.

LW2: What Toj, said. How's the sex life. Sounds like this dude didn't just turn gay. Sounds like he's been gay the whole time.

"Your husband may wear tights at the gym because he looks around and sees younger men with sleeker physiques and he's self-conscious about his own."

What kind of bs analysis is this. So you think he's self conscious about his physique, and the solution is to wear form fitting clothes that accenuate that physique as opposed to wearing loose fitting clothes to camoflage it? Dumb.
