I know many communities have tried all kinds of ways to control them. Within the city limits of Philadelphia, they have parks big enough that they had deer kills (via shooting).<quoted text>
Personally, I dont care about the ticks. I pull a dozen or so off me a year, as long as you get them in a few hours, you are ok. I have had Lymes before - it sucks. But many many many other people have more hysterical reaction to them, and I acept that irrationality is reality.
Shrubs - not a problem here, mainly because deer are rare in my hood, maybe once a very three years or so.
What does bother me is the lack of understory in the forest. The feeding habits of the deer are now controlling forest regeneration. In other words, in many places the forest is not regenerating since the deer eat the saplings and seedlings. In other places, it is regenerating, but according to the selective palate of the deer.
The deer huggers come out in force every time. They won't listen to reason - no shortage of deer anywhere that I know of.
I just want the ones to one that are already around to stop by more often so we can see them.
I hope an occasional lick doesn't increase their numbers!
