Here is another example of a business making a personnel decision based upon stupid statements from an employee. The business was not violating free speech. The business was making a decision as to what was in the best interest of the company.

CONGRESS i.e., Government. Not private people. Not a private business. Not your employer. GOVERNMENT.
A&E made a business decision. It decided that it would be better for business to PO the conservatives than PO the Gay Community and its supporters. That's all it was. Free enterprise. Nothing to do with the First Amendment. I thought the conservatives supported free enterprise.
For a company who takes government privileges and at the same time has policies that are anti-free speech, is somewhat hypocritical.

What privileges? It's a cable company. No different than any other company in the country.

They are not subject to the First Amendment. They made a business decision. Free enterprise.

John Stewart's take on it

“I think what the guy said is ignorant,” said Stewart,“but I also have an inclination to support a world where saying ignorant sh*t on television doesn’t get you kicked off that medium.”

Stewart went on to talk about how Fox News was also, unsurprisingly, defending Robertson’s right to free speech – except that this defense was cloaked in hypocrisy, given the channel’s campaign to draw attention to a perceived “War on Christmas.”

He said:“Their [Fox News] belief in free speech doesn’t extend to the holidays, when the word ‘Christmas’ is mandatory.”

Fascinating. Thanks for posting this. Though I wouldnt call it a middle ground. Basically, what he did was expose Mr Duck Hunter as acting contrary to Christianity, and then noting where unfettered prejudice can lead to. Then after putting a plug about the war against the Left, he opines that Mr Duck probably should not been of been suspended, and combines that with a plea for all people to unite.

Except for the war against the left, I would have to agree with him.

But the greatest value of O'Reilly sermon was the Christian part in the beginning.

Overall, I thought Geraldo put it best...just broadcast the guy and add a disclaimer.

O'Reilly does have fits of coherence on occasion. This was one of them. Just dont ask him about falafel. http://nymag.com/news/features/scandals/bill-...

CHRISTMAS, WINTERVAL OR HOLIDAYS?

In an attempt to further secularize public life, there's an increasing move in the West to dub Christmas as "winterval" (winter festival) or simply by the generic term "holidays".

While every attempt at separation of the church from the state is welcome, no single festival should be singled out.

Every festival whether it be Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, pagan or any other should officially be called by a common term "festival" or simply "holiday(s)".

BAN THE PUBLIC INSTALLATION OF RELIGIOUS SYMBOLS:

The public display of religious symbols should be best confined to one's body or to shrines and houses.

There should be no public installations of menorahs, star of David, crosses, swastikas, AUM, crescent moon and other religious symbols.

This move will augur well for the further secularization of society by driving religion into the private spaces of believers.

SWASTIKA AND CROSS:

It is claimed that the clockwise swastika depicts the 4 cardinal directions, the 4 civilizational epochs and the cycle of time among other interpretations. The cross is a swastika with straight arms instead of them being bent at right angles. The cross could refer to the addition sign in math, the 4 cardinal directions, the 4 quadrants of a circle and as a symbol of murder.

As far as possible, a nation should be multicultural where people of all cultures are welcome in a strictly secular and pluralistic setup. Merit, honesty, compassion, bravery and loyalty should be rewarded, while provisions should be made to train the underprivileged to maximize their innate capacities in order to become an integral part of the national mainstream and to lead productive lives instead of depending on charity and freebies that degrade a human being and put a great strain on the resources of a nation. Only those who cannot fend for themselves under any circumstance (after trying their best to be productive citizens) should be given adequate money handouts and/or other forms of material help as the case maybe.

The great advances in science and the refinement of the human sentient faculties that afford us deeper insights into the origins and functional mechanisms of the universe and into the workings of the mind-matter matrix and the superb growth of technology have replaced religious nonsense. The age of religion is over and rightfully belongs to a crude past when the human mind was no better than that of an animal or a barbarian. Religious mumbo jumbo should be confined to shrines, seminaries and houses. Religion should not be taught elsewhere. Degrees in theology should be awarded by religious bodies and not by universities. Any references to racism, fanaticism, supremacism, blood sacrifices and incitement to violence should be banned by law. Schools, colleges and universities should focus exclusively on providing quality education based on proven knowledge and practicals in the labs, field trips, seminar halls and in industry. So, naturally, communication skills, sciences, math, technology, logic and the secular humanities should be the subjects taught in educational institutions.

No Jew is asking anyone else to celebrate our holiday, which happened a few weks ago anyway, so I dont why this is a concern of yours. Straw argument.

rabbee: but then you have to ban, all pagan secular religious symbols too. that would just leave you, with a public vacant lot. and a more efficient, federal government.

What did you say? LOL.

No one cares what the Jews celebrate.

What I said was that any festival should be officially designated as simply the "holiday(s)" and not by its name - Chanukah, Christmas, Eid, Diwali or whatever.

The Jews, Christians and Muslims can celebrate whatever festival they wish to without expecting the government to recognize any of these mumbo jumbo celebrations..

This is what I meant - did you get it. retard?

A nation that functions on the basis of pluralism, secularism, justice, mercy, transparency, thrift, hard-work and accountability and that rewards intelligence, compassion, honesty, multiculturalism, eco-sensitivity, cleanliness, efficiency and loyalty should go far, very far, indeed.

A nice way to inspire the citizens of a nation would be to instal huge statues of great men and women like scientists, philosophers, statesmen, artists, writers, athletes and freedom fighters in public spaces with a short summary highlighting the superlative achievements of the person concerned. Replicas of modern machinery, labs, communication equipment, geometric symbols, parts of human anatomy and floral and faunal forms, sound ecological practices among other useful things could also be installed in key public locations as a means of educating people so that they meaningfully become an integral part of a knowledge-based society .
