I never said this was cut and dry. Fact is, we will never know who threw the first punch. What we do know is that Zimmerman went OUT OF HIS WAY to follow Martin. I.E. he stalked Martin. To me, I reasonable response to someone stalking you is fear, and I could see how it could easily escalate into aggression on either side. Either way, at the end of the day, we have a youth who was lawfully walking through a neighborhood, being stalked, ending up in an altercation, and being shot dead. Why? One would have to be incredibly naive to think prejudice had no influence here. And if he had survived, and Zimmerman was injured, why couldnt Martin be aquitted due to Stand Your Ground?

Zimmerman stalked Martin as the latter was running away after being spotted closely surveying people's homes (to burgle, I guess). He turned around and attacked. Police have discovered tools for breaking locks that fell out of Martin's pocket at the spot where he was punching Zimmerman.

METHOD TO DEDUCE THE SQUARE ROOT OF A NUMBER MENTALLY:
HUGH, Here's how the square root of any number is mentally calculated. I'll explain the steps in long form. Take a number, say 95. How do we find its square root mentally? Let's see how it is done. Now, 95 lies between 81 (a perfect square of 9) and 100 (a perfect square of 10). Remember, 9^2 = 81 and 10^2 = 100. So, we have: 81......95.......100. Now, 100  81 = 19 19/2 = 9.5 Thus, 81 + 9.5 = 90.5 So, the square root of 90.5 = 9.5 (halfway value between 81 whose square root is 9 and 100 whose square root is 10). This indicates that the square root of 95 is somewhere above 9.5. Now, 100  90.5 = 9.5 9.5/2 = 4.75 So, 90.5 + 4.75 = 95.25 Hence, 95.25 is the midvalue between 90.5 and 100. So, square root of 95.25 = 9.75. Therefore, by slight adjustment, we can say that the square root of 95 would be approximately 9.73 or 9.74 or so. These calculation steps can be mentally done in 10 to 15 seconds flat. Enjoy. (wink wink wink)

METHOD TO EXPAND A BINOMIAL WITHOUT USING FORMULA INVOLVING FACTORIALS (!):
Let us expand (a + b)^3 By formula we know that: (a + b)^3 = a^3 + 3a^2b + 3ab^2 + b^3 which can further be written as: a^3 + 3ab (a + b)+ b^3 (taking the HCF). If we wish to know how this is done we usually resort to Pascal's triangles or to the binomial expansion formula for (a + b)^n which is: a+b)^n = nC0 a^n.b^0 + nC1 a^(n1).b^1 + nC2 a^(n2).b^2 + nC3 a^(n3).b^3 +......... nCn a^0. b^n. Remembering that: nC0 = 1 = nCn, nC1 = n = nC(n1) nC2 = n(n1)/2! nC3 = n(n1)/3! and so on.... Note: nCr = n!/(nr)! r!= nPr/r! Oh my! Employing the extended formula of binomial expansion is easy if you're fast with calculations and provided if you have understood the concepts but otherwise it's rather tedious. So, I'll demonstrate an extremely simple method that does not use the cumbersome binomial expansion forumla and you may thank me for it, later. LOL. This is how the binomial expansion is done mentally: I'll demonstrate it in long form: (a + b)^3 =? 1 x a^3 b^0 +......a^2b^1 (begin with the highest power for a and keep reducing that by 1 for each succeeding term of a and begin with b^0 and keep adding 1 for each successive term of b). Now, what about the numerical coefficient of the 2nd term a^2b^1? .......a^2b^1 =? Go to the previous term which is: 1 x a^3 b^0 Now, multiply the numerical coefficient of a which is 1 with the power of a which is 3. So, 1 x 3 = 3. Next, consider the succeeding term which is a^2b^1. Take the power of b which happens to be 1 and divide the previous result 1 x 3 = 3 by 1. So, 3/1 = 3. This, then, is the numerical coefficient of the second term a^2b^1 which would be written as 3a^2b^1. Now, multiply, as shown above, the numerical coefficient of a which is 3 with the index of a which is 2 to get 3 x 2 = 6. Divide this with the power of b in the succeeding term which is ......a^1b^2. So, 6/2 = 3. Thus, the numerical coefficient of the third term a^1b^2 is 3a^1b^2. Finally, take the 4th term which is:....a^0b^3. Now, the third term is: 3a^1b^2. So, multiply the numerical coefficient of a which is 3 with the power of a which is 1 to get 3 x 1 = 3. Divide 3 by the power of b in the 4th term which happens to be 3. So, 3/3 = 1. So, the 4th term can be written as: 1 x a^0b^3. Now, add all the results together: 1 x a^3 b^0 + 3a^2b^1 + 3a^1b^2 + 1 x a^0b^3 Rewriting: a^3 + 3a^2b + 3ab^2 + b^3. (Note = n^0 = 1). These steps can be worked out mentally in a matter of seconds. (smiles)
