Relatively speaking, we dont actually spend as much money as you might think. In recent years, a lot of the nonmilitary aid has been diminished (by the Israelis themselves who didnt want to be perpetually beholden). Much of the military aid is a result of treaty obligations stemming back from the Camp David Accords (Egypts as well). So,
What are the resources or strategic location that makes us spend piles of money and political capital on this tiny waring country?
We spend almost NO international political capital on this nation. If Israel ceased to exist we STILL would have crazy terrorists attacking our country. That has been clear. And if you look at the European nations that in recent years have been more tepid than us in support, there has been NO decrease of terrorism to them as a result, rather an increase.
THis from Wiki
"...Israel is the largest total recipient of direct economic and military assistance from the United States since World War II, and it was the largest annual recipient from 1976 to 2003. Since the Iraq War began in 2003, Iraq has overtaken Israel as the largest annual recipient of U.S. aid.
A major purchaser and user of U.S. military equipment, Israel is also involved in the joint development of military technology and regularly engages in joint military exercises involving United States and other forces..."
1)Israel hasnt been the largest recipient since 2003
2)Its NOT unidirectional
So whats your gripe?
