Mister Tonka wrote: <quoted text> A lot? Is this your personal experience with more than one man? Enough to make the determination that "a lot" of men are like this? My experience is the complete opposite. I and the men that I know, tend to not take the day off of work the second we get a sniffle. When I DO get sick, I usually want to just be left alone. I don't want anyone fussing over me. The most I might ask for is for my wife to bring me some water and medication. My wife is the exact opposite. I know basically both types of men. The whiners that are babies with a little sneezing and a mild cold and the ones that never admit they're about to die and should go home (at the very least). I grew up pretty much like you did. The danger in that is this -- I can operate pretty well when I'm really sick. Once I had bronchitis and pneumonia only I didn't know it. Thought it was a horrible cold or whatever. I finally went to the doctor b/c the hacking was hanging on way too long and I was tired. I was shocked at the diagnosis. They gave me a shots, breathing treatments, went home with a handful of prescriptions. The next day after everything took effect, only then did I realize just how sick I was b/c of how much, much better I felt. Took more than 2 weeks to get well. I did end up taking 2 days off.

I ended up in the hospital for a week last year after I suffered thru being sick for most of the previous week. For the entire week, I was making frequent trips to the bathroom. We'll leave it at that. Other than that, I felt fine for the most part. Didn't really want to, but I did take one day off that week. Still continued to go to work the rest of the week. But little by little, I felt worse and worse. I went to the after hours clinic one day, and they gave me somthing that apparently was intended to stop me up, but not deal with WHY I was having that problem. That didn't help. The following week, on Mornday morning, I heeded my wife's advice and went to the emergency room. They said I was severely dehydrated and they kept me there. Put me on an IV to pump me full of fluid. Kept me there for almost a week re-hydrating me and running tests.

Toj wrote: <quoted text> See? Not good. Not really saying it was good, but more highlighting the fact that there was no whining from me about how bad I felt. No asking for or expecting special treatment. No one at work had any clue I was not feeling too good. I went to work, did my job, but just had some extra trips to the bathroom that no one would notice.

Sorry. Had to.

I think either you're whiny or you're not. We're not. Although I can be whiny when I have a bad sinus infection. Thank goodness that rarely happens. You know the kind, where you can't breath and you go through a box of tissues a day. Yuck. Hate that.

I know it's weird but #2 is one of those things. And I really hate being next to someone who is taking a crap. I know it's just a body function, but I can't help it. I want privacy.

Make no mistake about it. Guilt does not enter the equation with me. I don't get "sick" days. I get Paid Time Off. They are mine to use for whatever reason I choose. I don't like to waste those days on something stupid like being a little sick. I'd rather use them like a vacation day.

I've never called in sick in the 6.5 years I've worked at my current company. But aside from a couple of bad colds, I've never BEEN sick enough that I couldn't make it through. My boss is known for sending people home if she thinks whatever they have is contagious so I guess I've been "lucky."

Honey, If looking smoking hot was contagious, you would never have a job! j_m_w wrote: I've never called in sick in the 6.5 years I've worked at my current company. I have PTO as well and have learned how to medicate myself past a minor head cold and get my butt in to work so that I have a decent amount of vacation time.
