<quoted text> A lot? Is this your personal experience with more than one man? Enough to make the determination that "a lot" of men are like this?
My experience is the complete opposite. I and the men that I know, tend to not take the day off of work the second we get a sniffle. When I DO get sick, I usually want to just be left alone. I don't want anyone fussing over me. The most I might ask for is for my wife to bring me some water and medication.
My wife is the exact opposite.
I know basically both types of men. The whiners that are babies with a little sneezing and a mild cold and the ones that never admit they're about to die and should go home (at the very least).

I grew up pretty much like you did. The danger in that is this -- I can operate pretty well when I'm really sick.

Once I had bronchitis and pneumonia only I didn't know it. Thought it was a horrible cold or whatever. I finally went to the doctor b/c the hacking was hanging on way too long and I was tired. I was shocked at the diagnosis. They gave me a shots, breathing treatments, went home with a handful of prescriptions. The next day after everything took effect, only then did I realize just how sick I was b/c of how much, much better I felt.

Took more than 2 weeks to get well. I did end up taking 2 days off.

Ditto.

I ended up in the hospital for a week last year after I suffered thru being sick for most of the previous week. For the entire week, I was making frequent trips to the bathroom. We'll leave it at that. Other than that, I felt fine for the most part. Didn't really want to, but I did take one day off that week. Still continued to go to work the rest of the week. But little by little, I felt worse and worse. I went to the after hours clinic one day, and they gave me somthing that apparently was intended to stop me up, but not deal with WHY I was having that problem. That didn't help. The following week, on Mornday morning, I heeded my wife's advice and went to the emergency room. They said I was severely dehydrated and they kept me there. Put me on an IV to pump me full of fluid. Kept me there for almost a week re-hydrating me and running tests.

Not really saying it was good, but more highlighting the fact that there was no whining from me about how bad I felt. No asking for or expecting special treatment. No one at work had any clue I was not feeling too good. I went to work, did my job, but just had some extra trips to the bathroom that no one would notice.

I am like you guys in this. I also feel guilty when I call in, which doesn't help. But I always just keep going and going. Not too good a habit, I guess!!!

Unless they went in there right after you!

I thought I was agreeing with you.

I think either you're whiny or you're not. We're not. Although I can be whiny when I have a bad sinus infection. Thank goodness that rarely happens. You know the kind, where you can't breath and you go through a box of tissues a day. Yuck. Hate that.

Ewww! But funny.

There's certain things I try not to do in a public washroom. I know it's weird but #2 is one of those things. And I really hate being next to someone who is taking a crap. I know it's just a body function, but I can't help it. I want privacy.

Guilt? Make no mistake about it. Guilt does not enter the equation with me. I don't get "sick" days. I get Paid Time Off. They are mine to use for whatever reason I choose. I don't like to waste those days on something stupid like being a little sick. I'd rather use them like a vacation day.

I've never called in sick in the 6.5 years I've worked at my current company. But aside from a couple of bad colds, I've never BEEN sick enough that I couldn't make it through. My boss is known for sending people home if she thinks whatever they have is contagious so I guess I've been "lucky."

Honey,
If looking smoking hot was contagious, you would never have a job!

I have PTO as well and have learned how to medicate myself past a minor head cold and get my butt in to work so that I have a decent amount of vacation time.

Daily Horoscope for June 19

Libra

Going shopping today? Then don't be surprised if you splash out on items that are that little bit different from your usual purchases. For instance, if you set off for the supermarket you might end up buying lots of exotic ingredients so you can experiment with them. This is unlikely to get out of hand unless you're feeling bored or fed up, in which case you'll want to spend your way out of your current mood.
