Bears must acknowledge defensive shortcomings

Offering a conditioned response, a disappointed Nathan Vasher sounded proud of the way the Bears' defense shut down Tennessee's running game in Sunday's 21-14 loss to the Titans. Read more

Hey Lovie Smith, wake the fark up. You look like a sleepwalking goofball on the sideline. Please fire Lovie and hire Ron Rivera!!! The Bears D has more success on 3rd and 5 than 3rd and 11....PATHETIC. Urlacher, Vasher, Harris, and Tillman need to stop stealing paychecks. Just look at the offensive and defensive stats: Points For = 237, Points Against = 194. Not too hard to figure out that the Babich patch kids are the problem with this team.
Well put, Smith seems totally disconnected, no emotion at all, what a poor motivator, this crap seems to go on year after year. Other teams out coach us week in and week out.

Somebody fire Babich and Lovie...get those idiots out of town....take big-buck, big-talking Urlacher with you....this defense stinks from top to bottom...but Harris and Urlacher can count their big raises and laugh out loud...they convinced us they were worth it.....so far they're nothing.....Dump Grossman as soon as possible, give Hanie a try....can't be worse.....Another pathetic loss by the defense.....and of course Rex....

The Bears pass defense is MIA and Urlacher is way over-rated. Gary Fencik, where are you now that the Bears need you.

The deep drop by the LBs and DBs leave gaping holes every game. Lane Tech could score TDs against them.

As for Grossman, I have figured him out: The kid is a Flake!

So it goes.

A few observations from a lifelong Bears fan: the D is mediocre at best; Urlacher has slipped to being just an average LB; Grossman still stinks; Da Bears are outplayed in the 2nd. half week-after-week because THEY ARE OUTCOACHED! Don't be fooled by their 5 wins- 2 were against Det., maybe the NFL's worst. On the plus side, Forte is the best RB 1st. draft choice they've made in a LONG time.

Calm down everyone. Orton will be ready to go next week and Little Rex will be back to holding the clipboard and dreaming about being NFL player of the month.

Nice one haugh you actually put your finger on the problem, only took you four games to get around to it but that is better than 4 years, which seems to be the average around here for stepping up and pointing out the obvious.
It is the coaching, the players are practically begging the media to say what they cannot. Do you want them to color you a picture. It is Lovie and his buddy bobo babbich. They have turned the bears defense into a pin cushion, the players hate it and fans hate watching it. No toughness, no domination, just endless short completions and long drives with high third down conversions. When does it become clear to the genious with his head in the warm woolyness, that other teams have figured out how to beat your defense. It is over for your pet defensive scheme. Lovie is like the monty python parrot salesman, the defense is just pining for the fjords, its not dead. Trust us lovie, it is a deceased defense!!! You either change or get fired, sooner is better than later, and noone is going to miss you one bit.
Nice work Bill..
Just think what a team with a good QB would do to this defense. 500 yards passing. 6 TD's. The scheme has been exposed since the superbowl. The colts run a similar D and there only good when Bob Sanders makes plays. Would not hurt if the Bears had a recevier that could get open.

One can only hope that the coaching staff read half of what everyone's complaints are here because week in week out it's the same old story.
Every loss this season can be attributed to the poor or absent pass defense. Aside from the Indy game where the defense played well enough to overcome Mannings actual first practice, the only reason the Bears have won games is Orton's ability to overcome the defense's inadequacies.
There's a lot of armchair QB's come Monday morning but I don't think there was a single Bear fan out there who didn't know what the Titans were going to do in the 2nd half. What's wrong with this picture? Tillman and Vasher can cover anyone if they are allowed to mix it up with receivers at the line.
Change it up Lovie/Babich, swallow your pride, 7 of the last 8 games show the pass defense doesn't work, let the guys play the way they can and used to and you may be surprised.

If anybody blames grossman for this loss take a look in the mirror. The guy didnt lose the game for us. It was the damn defense. Were talking about big contract players here tillman, vasher, brown, harris. Where the hell are these guys there supposed to be the bread and butter of this team. We made kerry collins scout team all star justin gage look like jerry rice and steve young. Were not goin anywhere till these guys step it up.

Babich is useless and the defense has not looked the same since Rivera was let go in favor of a F.O.L. being installed unjustifiably into the position; HOWEVER, the game was more than winnable if Grossman takes better care of the ball and completes some VERY SIMPLE passes.

Both Babich and Grossman need to GO NOW. If the Bears have any guts they will tell Lovie to fire Babich or find a new job.

You'd be hard pressed to find anyone to disagree too heavily with any of that.
I might argue that Urlacher is still a bit better than average but he is certainly not the player he was 3 years ago but that's about as close to a disagreement as anyone should have.

The Priorities:
#1 - Rex is done, he consistently misses wide-open guys. Sure Rex can play when he gets good protection and his receivers are wide open, but that's about it. Typical Quote after a pass play from Rex "That pass was behind the receiver".

I don't care if he was rusty, there were too many times he sails a pass or totally misses guys who are wide open and he's completely useless when flushed out of the pocket.

#2 - Babich has got to go. As some have said, The difference between 2006 and 08 is only 1 major difference, Rivera/Babich

#3 - I don't know how often I hear it, but Lovie never adjusts at half-time. Way back, the loss to Carolina in the playoffs, Lovie says "We stuck to the game plan" which at the time was to let Steve Smith have a career game.

Living in Boston I get to watch the best coaching staff in league every week. No Tom Brady and a guy who is really not that good, goes out and wins more often than not because they play to their strengths, take what the other team gives you and makes adjustments during the game.

The Titans won because the Bears gave them the pass all day long and Tenn took it. It seems to me the Bears just come in with a game plan and don't deviate from it, have a set way of playing and don't let players do what they do best and don't often take advantage of the other teams weaknesses.
