Packed with kits

Chicago, IL

#1 Jan 5, 2010
They place is virtually packed to the ceiling with kits. It is disorganized but the owner is helpful. Didn't find too much in the line of scratch building supplies but they do carry military models (AFVs) , mostly Tamiya and Italeri. Some older kits are also available. They also carry a wide variety of other models, primarily cars and aircrafts. Worth a look. If they don't have it, they will order it for you. I'll warn you that it seems like you're entering a security vault as you need to get buzzed in. Don't worry, the staff are friendly. It's the way the building was set up before it became a hobby shop. Paints are kept behind the desk

Okay, here goes.

If you are asked whether you have discussed the case, acknowledge that you have.

Did anyone tell you what to say? the truth as best you recall it.

Answer both lawyers same way. Don't clam up for his attorney.

Answer only the question asked. Don't volunteer. You have met his attorney. You will have a sense where his tricks are. The best way to defuse a trick is to state what he is doing and ask him to stop. Please don't point your finger in my face. Please don't yell at me. I can't answer that with a plain yes or no. Please don't stand so close to me , you are making me uncomfortable.

A trick is to let a silence drag out. Everyone will add a comment to fill the void. Bite your tongue to keep from doing that.

If you don't know the answer, say so. If you don't remember, say that.

Ask the prosecutor to whom you should direct your answers. I assume there will be a jury. Do you look at them, the guy asking the questions, the judge? Don't look at the prosecutor for cues though; that will look coached

Keep your cool. Don't let him get you angry. Angry begets answers you haven't thought out. Pause before answering.

More when you tell me you've seen this

When he is going for your credibility, keep your answers to yes sir, no sir etc.Work hard against letting him get under your skin.

Hold on to the fact that when the incident occurred, there were only two of you there. Only the two of you know what really really happened.

If you are being asked about something you said before , agree thats what you said if it is an accurate recitation. If you are changing some aspect now, think through, in advance how you are going to respond. Its scuzzy, but be prepared for something along the lines of " were you lying then/exaggerating then or are you lying/exaggerating now?"

It is hard. Everyone wants to say something to fill a silence. Look at your hands. Sub verbalize- silently, no lip movements "keep my mouth shut, keep my mouth shut".

Don't get in a verbal joust with him- he is trained in this stuff and you are not. Do not address L's dad directly ( I can't remember his initial)

If you are not sure what to do, look at the judge.

If tears come, that okay as long as they are not faked. Try as best as you can not to let this look like a grudge match against L's dad. Glare at the attorney if you have to

If you think of yourself as a video cam, just repeating what was recorded, what you saw with your eyes, heard with your ears, felt on your body, know of first hand knowledge, it will be a bit easier. Its when you get into opinions that the lawyer is trained to attack, but if you are confident about the basis of an opinion, be clear about it . It is my opinion that he was faking having a bad back. Why(remember not to volunteer) because I saw him limp in but walk normal when leaving. It is my opinion he was drunk. Why, because he was slurring his words and stumbling and had forgotten to finish zipping up and he smelled of gin.

Enough. Tell the truth as best you know it. be confident in your statement- you can be unsure about a point but don't project uncertainty.

Get some sleep. Tell us about it when its over.
