For reference, Abby’s kid, it is traditional in the *Ashkenazic*(Eastern European) Jewish culture to name after a deceased relative. In the Sefardic (Middle Eastern) culture, it is traditional to name after ONLY living relatives.
There are superstitions at the root of both of those traditions, but if you’re going to talk about cultural traditions, please get it right.
