arents have bsolute say in who their minor kid sees. If parents find out they would be within their rights to forbid grandma from seeing granddaughter.

There are ways to finesse this. Grandma needs to help kid on a tangible program of change and then when positive things are happening, she should encourage kid to share with parents.

Meanwhile, since Grandma knows who is supplying weed, Grandma can address that making sure supplier won't plant some stuff metaphorically at Grandma's house.

Grandma can spend a lot more time with kid. Tutor or help with homework, hang out at Grandma's, go to movies, go to mall, offer to drive the kid somewhere and then hang around, anything that distracts the kid and provides a viable alternative to booze and dope.

L1: If the person doing the facial is the one that gave the gift, I wouldn't tip. I would definitely show a lot of gratitude on the spot and follow it up with a card. If it's not the person who gave the gift, then tip.

L2: The 'rents probably aren't going to like it either way, whether it's partying or to make herself feel better. If the grandma could look up programs and activities for her granddaughter, speak with the granddaughter about the seriousness of it and alternatives and then go with the granddaughter to talk to the 'rents, I think that might work.

L3: I like LC's idea of speech classes or maybe even improv classes (more fun and does the same thing -- get used to public speaking). A career coach might help him.

Then riddle me this catwoman:
If the daughter is going to grandma, dont you think she is hoping grandma will stand in her corner and help mediate with her parents?
Grandma never said (I dont think) that the kid made her promise not to tell her parents, just that they would yell.
Sounds like the kid wants the parents to know, but does not want all the yelling, so she is turning to grandma for help with that.
I forgive you.

I will agree that perhaps the grandmother and kid could talk to the parents together. But from what Sub was suggesting, sounded like he thinks the grandma should go behind the kid's back and talk to the parents herself. THAT is what will ruin the trust the kid has with the grandma.

On LW1: I think the best tip this teacher could give the mom/facilist is to give her a great review on yelp or whatever, and also email the spa with a glowing report.

That ticks me off when people are eager to prescribe and swallow little pills to solve simple problems such as stage fright, which is a very natural phenomena and many people experience when they are put in the spotlight.
Stage fright is not necessarily a simple litte problem and pills are not necesarily the first step a shrink takes. I was in therapy for 6 months before we started talking medications. i was dreading certain situations and would freeze up and start panicking in a crowd when i never used to before. if handled correctly and conservatively, medication can be good.

i've also see others who we don't know rremendously well react wonderfully to medication for psycho-neurological conditions. all of a sudden, behaviours improved dramatically, and we found out later that they had started meds.

re:#3, Abby said MAYBE medication. Therapy is a great place to start. However most therapists can't prescribe medication.
mine is a PsyD, but has MDs in teh practice that they work with. they start out with low doses for a couple weeks and frequent touch-bases with teh MD for efficetiveness adn side effects, and work up to longer Rx that teh insruance companies prefer.

i went on meds after working through stuff in talk therapy. but i knew it wasn't enough when i would wake up no teh day of certain events with such a feeling of dread about the event. after startign the meds, that feelign of dread diminished tremendously.

Medications are a tool, just like surgery is a tool to fix things. It's not for everyone but is a tremendous help for many, many people.

I think it gets a bad wrap b/c there are a lot of doctors that write the script within 5 minutes of meeting the person.
