Ok, I'm a Greyhound bus driver and I hope the information I give you is helpful.

1. Go to www.greyhound.com and click driving careers on the bottom of the page. It will list the cities that are hiring. As of right now I do not think any cities are hiring (winter being the slow season). They usally do most of the hiring in the spring time. Also on the careers web page they will list the requirements. Must be atleast 22, no DUI's etc etc.

2. Also go to YouTube and search for greyhound driver. Someone made a very informative video about becoming a greyhound bus driver.

3. Starting pay as of right now is $17.70 with top pay at $22+.

4. When you start you will not have a regular run but instead you will be on the extra board and on call. The job is fun and I like it.

I am in the Los Angeles area and just recently applied for a motor coach position. Can you tell me how long the process takes from the time you apply till the time they contact you?

Its my dream job..... I am a city bus driver and would like to retire from greyhound in the future. From what I hear you have no life, that is if you work from downtown Los Angeles. You are on call 24 /7 and once you get back from a long drive they can call you back in 8 hours. Plus you will work the extra board for about 15 years before you can hold one run. Extra board gives you plenty of work, trust me..... So no more bars, parties or a night out with friends or your significant other..... but all in all I will go to Greyhound in the near future and live my dream.

I was just wondering what is the negative to working for Greyhound. Besides time away isn't the pay worth it?

I am a retired Greyhound Driver. Back in my day we got paid by the mile. Top pay before they broke the union in the early 90s was slightly more tan .40 cents a mile.In the 70s many drivers were making over $30,000.00 @ year plus at the end of the year you 2% of your gross as a meal allowance.
It was much like being in the military. Strict rules & time off w/o pay or fired if you broke the rules.
Drivers were well thought of in those days & were allowed in many places free. Such as Grand Ole Opry, Professional football & baseball games, Kentucky Derby to name a few.
It was a good job especially after you gained some seniority & held a regular run, but it took years to get the top runs. Many worked 4 days then off 2.
Top run out of Memphis was a round trip to Nashville. Non stop both ways. Leave Memphis at 7 AM back in Memphis at 3:30 PM. About $167.00 per day. never got the seniority to hold that one.
