The Chicago accent is a marvel of flat vowels and nasal consonants - ask a native for directions to the intersection of Addison and Pulaski and get ready to hear "over by AA-dison an' Pu-LAA-ski." Then ask them what they had for lunch, and they just might tell you they had a "sangwich." There are some legendary local sangwiches, to be sure.
