I drive along Lake under those pillars and its very scary during the day. I drive a box truck thru it and i feel myself ducking in the truck. And if u hit those things at 30 mph your toast.

Please cite your source for the Lake Street 'L' planned demolition.
I think you're quite confused.
I was living in Oak Park from 1984 to 1996. I can't remember the exact year(s) but it was around 1990. Oak Parkers and West Siders were understandably quite upset with this plan. The tracks and structure were so dangerous the trains were crawling through the West Side at a frustratingly slow pace. CTA didn't think it was needed since the Eisenhower was so close. The two lines run perpendicular to each other. CTA finally backed down and developed the restoration plan. The Central Park/Conservatory station was built under this plan. I'm not confused, I lived 42 years in the West Side and Oak Park. I escaped with my sanity intact. Not to mention my life and a clean police record.

If you want her to rest in piece, you got your wish. But if you meant PEACE then thats another thing, sounds the same but are totally different. And by the way no I wasn't there, but have seen this done on Lake many of times darting in and out between those pillars.

a shame there was a loss of life and injuries involved, but i have to say its mildly reassuring knowing that a car can slam into one of those poles and not damage the structure. ive always wondered about that on the elevated sections. i guess now i know ...

Check the car's black box (if so equipped) to see the rate of speed prior to impact. That'll tell the true story. Folks need to slow down!
Very true! Speed kills and I know this area. It sucks if you are going over 20mph.

Same thing happened last year ~ Feb 12, 2007 Three teenagers died and another was injured Sunday when the car they were riding in hit an elevated train support on the city's West Side. The crash took place around 4 a.m. in the 4800 block of Lake Street.

Sean, the columns on Lake St. were rebuilt in the mid-90's. The bottoms of the columns were corroded from salt on the street and were replaced with new bearing assemblies and concrete footings. Look at the picture.

Perhaps this work saved lives by preventing a derailment.

How the hell do you crash into a non moving object? She was either drunk or high. One less drunk driver on the road. I suppose you feel sorry for the drunk driver who killed the motorist in Humboldt Park the other day.

The driver has not been identified but believed to be in her late teens or 20s? The three passengers can't provide this information to the investigators?

The phrase "female driver" gave me pause, but then I wondered if the Tribune also uses "male driver". Does anyone know?
I don't know.
