L1: How stupid can you be?

L2: I'm with Stina. How many conversations do they bring up about gays? I disagree on many things some of my family members are ardent about. I don't invite those type of conversations. If they bring up something unkind, call them out on the unkindness.

I'll remind you what the Bible says about gays. But Jesus was talking about taxes, not the separation of church and state. That didn't come into play until the constitution was written.
I want to remind you that the Bible is a group of books, written by men many years ago, put together to form one book. There are many versions and translations.

God did not write the Bible.

Thank you, Captain Obvious. Tell me something I don't know. In other news, water is wet and the sky is blue.

God did not write the Bible.
The Bible is the inspired Word of God ... referring to the fact that God divinely influenced the human authors of the Scriptures in such a way that what they wrote was the very Word of God.

Word.

And the book got very politically influenced. Heck, it's not even really "Christianity" so much as it is "Paulianity," since he co-opted JEsus's teachings and started the Christian church.

That's your belief. Many others don't think any god played any role in it.

I 100% believe it's written by man with no divine influence whatsoever.

Even the most basic research into the history of the English translations of the bible will very quickly reveal how majorly the English translations have been guided by various political purposes.

I agree, too. That was my point, really. Whatever the genesis of the writings, they certainly are not in the same state and therefore I question the meanings.

But you dont believe in a creator either, so of course you would say that. If there is no divine, their can be no divine influence.

If you believe in a creator however, then you can choose to believe that the writings were influenced by the divine.
I dont think god showed up and told someone to start taking dictation, but I do think that the original writings were influenced by the matching of the creator opening the writers mind, and the writer trying to understand the creator and what they were being shown (realizing).

And yes I think politics and power corrupted the entire thing after the books were written.

I don't agree with all that's in the Bible. Let's just debunk the whole thing....

I don't agree with all that's in that pesky constitution, let's just pick and choose whatever suits our agenda....

I don't agree with the rules on marriage, let's just toss the old rules out and make up our own....

And if anyone has a problem with any of this, they're just stupid, narrow-minded fundamentalists who don't know what's good for them....

Hmmmm....

I don't think anyone is debunking other's beliefs because that's faith and you cannot define faith. Rather, at least I am, questioning the validity of something because they have been changed. It's called opening a dialogue.

Questioning isn't evil. Swallowing everything hook, line and sinker is for suckers, IMNSHO.

Why does questioning something make you feel as if it negates your belief? No one can take away your beliefs in things.

There are many things that have changed for the good because someone had the courage to question it and open the dialogue.

And I would definitely be a person that would challenge someone who tried to take away your ability to have your beliefs.

I wasn't taking about faith. That's a different level. I was speaking in facts.

They were written by man and changed many times over. Some books were left in, some were not. The translations have been questioned many times over for very valid reasons.

In whose opinion? Teachers aren't allowed to fail students anymore. Change for the good? Kids can't bring their own food to school anymore. Change for the good? Any and all morals have been tossed out the window. For the good?

One man's "change for the good" is another man's "ascension to depravity."

The Bible was written by men ...men are imperfect ...God made man and therefore knows their imperfections ... nevertheless ... With the imperfections the meaning is still there. God is in control .

Bidden or not bidden, God is present?
