And okay, AS, just for you. Change of topic.

Had a lengthy phone call from my mother this evening. She's talked things over with my sisters and her life-long bff, but needed advice from a man's POV. She's going through a divorce and couldn't understand her soon-to-be ex's controlling nature. Especially with things like money. Well, his job was an IRS investigator. If you didn't pay your taxes, he was the one you were answering to. And his last wife was sick for a long time and he had to be in control of the finances and everything else.

So I told her it wasn't that he was controlling because he was just an @zzole and needed to control YOU, specifically. But it was just how he was "wired" and he couldn't really just turn it "off," so to speak. Blah blah blah, we went on and on, but she said she understood more thanks to my advice.

You spend most of your childhood getting advice from your parents. It's nice to be able to use the knowledge you've gained growing into adulthood to give some advice back.

Sorry to brag, carry on. Sieg heils Obama!

Sorry, I got busy, wasn't ignoring y'all.

I don't necessarily consider it rude not to use sir and ma'am ever, but there are a lack of manners up here in general. 7 year olds should not be talking to me like I am a peer.

I had a boss who would actually yell at me for saying "yes ma'am" in the office. She was a whack job, though.

FTR (this is responding to JMW's comment, but i'm too lazy to find it), I will often respond to a question from the boys with "yes, sir". Doesn't mean I think I'm of lower stature that my 8 or 5 year old, I'm just modeling how to be polite. They also ask why I always call my husband "my love" instead of his name. It's just the way we talk in this house.

If you are serious about getting more activity consider that one gets more flies with honey than with vinegar or, alternately

Be Nice, Be Respectful.

Seriously. And if you don't understand the mechanics of that, it means that just because someone has an opposing viewpoint does not mean you call them names. "All this[liberals/conservatives] and every that[Democrat/Republicans] " is neither accurate nor attractive.

It's scary. I no longer even claim to be a proud Repub. I swear they are all evil now and m eyes have been opened the last year.

The socialist nature we almost are is scary, since it's happened so slightly. I can't believe we can chip away at a Constitution and no one bats an eye. I wonder what year we lose our first world status...

It doesn't work that way. The original "regs thread", for example, was pulled because someone thought it would create a little drama and shake things up. It did. Big deal.

I, for one, have zero interest when I come here and see pages and pages of politic. I am not the only one to echo this sentiment. I can't stop anyone from posting things I am not interested in, so I don't try, but I see less participation as a direct result in lack of interest in the content.

No one bats an eye at it because half the folks in this country are liberal sheep (including all the folks who love Obama on this thread) who think Obama can do no wrong, even though if this same stuff were happening and a Republican were in the white house they would be outraged.

Itís just like how Guantanamo was a huge, huge, important issue while G. Bush was in the office, but hardly a peep has been made since Obama took office.

Mention anything to them about how a constant surveillance police state is unconstitutional and instead of pointing the finger at the leader who is allowing it to take place and who has pledged his support for it, i.e. Obama, they point to a past president, G. Bush, as if he is in the White House with a gun pointed at Obamaís head and demanding that he do these things. Thatís all they have.

They lack the ability to be objective about anything involving him. It's like they are members of a cult and he is their leader. In fact, mention anything negative about Obama and they bring up Bush, as if comparing Obama to arguably the worst president in history makes Obama a good president. It would be like a rapist saying heís not so bad, because at least he didnít murder someone, like some other guy did. That is how dumb these people are .... they think such a thought process is sound logic. No wonder they want the government to care for them. They lack the intelligence to figure out how to do so themselves.

There is something to be said about calling a spade a spade. In the 5 years Obama has been in office, when 100% of the folk son here who voted for Obama have never acknowledged that Obama may, possibly, just maybe made one singe mistake in 5 years (I know it's a stretch, because he is perfect and all and almost god like), it makes them nonobjective, moron, sheep.

I would say the same thing about folks who voted republican if they couldn't stomach the thought of acknowledging that their favorite candidate has made some mistakes.

I have no respect for the intelligence of anyone who judges a politicians behavior 100% based on what party he/she is affiliated with, which is sadly what a lot of folks do, including on here.

Stop making this political!

My God, do you realize we've been on this thread for five years now? FIVE friggin YEARS?

I'll agree that if a Republican was president, these people would be screaming. And I predict that when a Republican is president in another two years, this thread will probably go silent.
The Obama lovers and Bush haters will go elsewhere to spew their hatred and bigotry and us reasonable people will be left to discuss things amongst ourselves.

There are ways to discuss this without vitriol and absolutism.

I doubt that 100% of the people never acknowledge Obama making mistakes. The labels put on any president come from his detractors. It is not reasonable to expect a guys supporters to buy into the language of the opposition even if they don't agree with him.

As long as you bring up spades, a fair amount of the nastiness against Obama at least in the beginning was racial not substantive and it came from groups that were ticked off after listening to Bush be lambasted..

My point is that it is possible to discuss issues and take positions while agreeing that the other side is competent and acting in good faith even if you strongly disagree. That doesn't happen here and so there is less activity on the thread

Itís not reasonable to be objective? Really?

Instead of supporting a person, folks should support their own beliefs and what they believe is best for this country, regardless of who is President. When you turn your thinking off and blindly follow someone, just because you voted for him/her, you are being a partisan hack.

Because some folks are ignorant racists and primarily donít like him because he is black or because they were partisan hacks when it came to Bush, folks should be partisan hacks when it comes to Obama, folks who claim to be intelligent shouldnít be objective, and they should not speak out against his decision making, even though they would be going ape shyte if a republican president engaged in the same decision making? Thatís how the model voter should act? Really?

I donít believe anyone is competent or acting in good faith if they judge someoneís decision making based on which party he/she is affiliated with. That goes for folks on the right and the left. Iím not picking on liberals. There was a certain subset of the population who did the same thing when Bush was in office ... however, I must say there seems to be a much larger percentage of the population who have chosen to do so for Obama.
