It's weird, I don't really care about birthdays but at work they are generally celebrated by my department with food - just had a big shindig for someone last week. But for my birthday, not even one happy birthday wish. Makes me just a little sad.
Meh, I'll live.

A few years ago (before bro's accident), I gave myself a weekend vacay to the east coast, near St. Augustine. Found a beach you could drive on (can't remember name) and promptly got stuck in the sand! LOL

I have an SUV but still couldn't do anything but make the rut deeper. Luckily there were a few strong men nearby to push me to safety.
Talk about feeling like a dumb, helpless blonde. Don't think I will ever try that again, no matter how cool it was at the time.

No school today so I'm chilling at Panera, desperately trying to start on my dissertation pilot research revisions.*le sigh*

The problem with living in Chicago and trying to do stuff like this is that, although the conditions for it exist today and possibly the next week, in two weeks it will be just warm enough that the whole thing would turn to slush.

Do they know it's your birthday?

I don't tell anyone at work when mine is. We don't do anything here anyway. I actually prefer not having a huge production at work or at home (a cake is fine ... maybe dinner somewhere).

Since my earlier posting, I've had a few well-wishers and one card, so yes, the information is widely circulated through the department. Heck, the girl who my position before me left a print-out of all the section's birthdays on my bulletin board - lookin' right at it now. Guess no one else looks at it however.

My boss, who is new to the section btw, will realize in a few days that she missed it, will be highly apologetic and bake some cookies for me. She makes really excellent cookies.

We'll have to try to do lunch again or dinner with P when I come up there this summer. I'm going to try to come up for at least 2 weeks in June or July.

I wasn't dead, but you two did kind of wear me out at the hotel. P, pick something nicer than the Frank's roach motel; okay, thanks?

happy day, squishy! sounds like good cookies later could make up for a quieter observation today!

There were like 4 of us who had birthdays wihtin about 10 days of each other in both February & June, so we'd pick a day in about the middle of the span and a bunch of people would bring in treats. We did this by team or neighborhood, so sometimes people had very low key days, like the admin girl posted signs and that was it...

Let me know when your schedule calms down a little; we should meet for coffee!

Well, the one good thing about all the crap weather is I think I get out of a business trip that I wasn't exactly looking forward to. I was supposed to leave tomorrow, but I think we are going to schedule until next month. The whole way would be on icy roads and it's a 5 hour drive ... not worth it to drive.
I really don't like to travel for work unless it is someplace cool.
I'm off the hook. Yay. Our main contact up there was kind of pressuring us to come. It's just not safe or necessary. Rescheduling is easy and the presentation can happen anytime ... it's not crucial that it happen now.

It seems dumb to drive through the mountains on snowy roads for 5 hours in a toyota camry rental car or whatever clown car they will give us ... wouldn't even want to drive all that way in my SUV and it has 4x4. It's supposed to be colder than a witches tit tomorrow too ... so it's not like any snow on the roads is going to melt.

Thanks AS!

I'll take a hot chocolate instead, but I will let know about that free time. With the hubby's new traveling job, that is harder and harder to come by. But any time you're on or near the Mag Mile, let me know.
