Dude, you really need to get a life. We know the world is a big scary place to you, but get out of your mom's basement every now and then.

Yuck! My little dog did that twice. She had to have surgery once for it (not cheap)! It was really hard to get her to heal because we lived in a tr-level townhouse. We had to get her up and down stairs just to take her out.
Hope he heals quick!
On another note, there is an outdoor neighborhood cat that got hurt. Back legs are completely paralyzed. The neighbor that it belongs to wasn't home when a neighbor found it (but got home later(. It drags itself with its front legs and the back ones just flop back and forth. This was night before last. I come home last night and that poor cat is still sitting outside only able to hobble around! I don't know what to do. It was cold out, too. We gave the cat a box (with the side cut out so it can get in and out), but I can't believe this neighbor hasn't done anything to help this cat. I would have knocked on her door last night but it was kind of late and there is a baby in the house. I was all angry and upset to tears last night. I have 2 dogs, so I can't take the cat in until I can get it help. I am so sad for it and I am afraid a hawk will get it. Maybe I should call teh SPCA?
Yes. Animal rescue. Give the cat some water and ring the neighbor's door bell. That sucks.

She has food and water out and the cat seems to be able to get to it. THe lady has several "outdoor" cats. I worry that the cat is suffering and with the cold snap we are getting (heu, it's cold for us!), I feel so bad for it. Plus, the hawks...

I am so angry at her I could spit!!!

Speaking of dogs... I was in the hospital from 12/2 to 12/11. Had lung surgery. It was a rough stay and I was very sick. Inability to sleep made me a little insane. It was ugly.

Then a dog appeared in the doorway to my room. A hospital tech person had enrolled her dog in the animal therapy program. Next thing I knew, the Australian shepherd mix Molly was on my bed, getting all the love she could get. Total sweetie pie. What a great program. I had the tech person take our pic together, and even though I looked like complete shit, I put that pic on FB. Nick: "but you were smiling!"

I love dogs.

Over the years, i have known several retired couples that knew and loved our dogs....some admitted just how boring, their life in retirement was...up until they acted on my suggestion and got a small dog, that changed everything...You could see it in their eyes, and how they would just light up.....telling me about how, now they can't wait to get home and see how the dog is....How they seem to look forward to everyday much more.....Dogs are magic.....

Perhaps.
Except that the stores that have been sold thus far ( 15 stores) have gone to companies whose work force is unionized.
Both Jewel and Mariano's are union shops. The 11 Mariano-acquired stores terminated everyone and have held job fairs. The press announcement says that everyone has to reapply and that there is no preference given to existing Dominick's employees. To that extent the sale negated seniority systems, but they will still be a union shop.
That leaves roughly 57 stores which will close and have no present plans for re-opening. Separate and apart from the union issues, that leaves some very significant service area gaps, mostly in the city proper. It is hard to explain because even a minority focused chain like Moo and Oink couldn't keep in business.
What I found rather interesting were the things on the shelves that were not sold. I assumed that the checkout computers provided data on inventory and that the store could stock its shelves with things that sold at that particular store and drop or reduce shelf space for slow moving items. I am aware that food manufacturers can purchase prime shelf placement and that there is a competition for shelf space, but even so, if the items don't sell, no one makes money.
(Are you old enough to member the newspaper columns called Bag Boy about a guy at the Treasurer Island on Wells? As I recall they ran in the Daily News. They made it int a play, too)
I remember that. That's the only thing I liked that Bob Greene wrote. He ended up resigning in a scandal when he was having a relationship while he was married with a HS student.

From Wikipedia for details:

"In September 2002 Greene was forced to resign from his newspaper column after admitting to an extramarital sexual relationship 14 years earlier with a high school student. The student had visited Greene at work for a school project and became the subject of one of his columns. Admission of the affair attracted considerable attention, partly because Greene had made a name for himself as an advocate for abused children and family values, notably in his bestselling Good Morning, Merry Sunshine: A Father's Journal of His Child's First Year. Neil Steinberg said on CNN that Greene was "famous for using his position as a columnist... to try to get women into bed."

The woman with whom Greene had a relationship was 17, legal age in Illinois, and had graduated from high school in the months between their first meeting and his invitation to take her out to dinner. Their sole hotel tryst was euphemistically described in the Chicago Tribune as a "sexual encounter that stopped short of intercourse," and Greene told Esquire that he demurred at going further, telling her, "You should wait to do this with someone you love".

Four months after Greene's resignation from the Chicago Tribune, his wife Susan died of heart failure following a month-long respiratory illness."

Heh. I knew I didn't like him. I did like the Treasure Island stories, though.

I can understand it. I wouldn't have done it if I was him, probably. I'm not that kind. But I used to be in competitive swimming when I was younger and you see the same people year after year that are your "rival". There's a lot of training and what's in your head in the miles of swimming practices in the pool is how you're going to beat your rival the next time. It's motivation. Also, many of your rivals are really your good friends. They become your good friends b/c you see them all the time. Just b/c they're your friend, though, doesn't mean you don't want to have a faster time than them.

My idiot fur beasts got ahold of a pack of Orbit gum last week, which is poisonous to dogs. I had to call the emergency vet and they had me induce vomiting with hydrogen peroxide. That was a lot of minty smelling vom, but everyone is okay.

I need to bring the emergency vet some cookies one of these nights. I'm pretty sure it's like $150 per animal to walk in the door and I'd have had to haul in both.

we have granola bars in a canister on the floor in the pantry so the kids can get to it. Someone forgot to close the lid and the door. Came home and found 9 wrappers and granola remnants in the dog bed and on several spots on the couch
