A battle between viewers of either network is still a minor skirmish. FOX likes to claim viewer superiority but, with 3 million people watching at any given time, that's still less than 1% of the population that walks around screaming "BENGHAZI!!!!!" all day. If you never watched FOX or MSNBC you'd feel startling little anxiety about everyday life.

This is NOT to say that Washington isn't full of scumbags, many of whom are teapublican fascists that really DO want to take over the the country. It's just that those two stations are as dedicated to extreme politics as The NFL TODAY is on football Sunday afternoons. It's their business. They have to promote for ratings. That's ALL it is is ratings and commercial dollars.

So, we were at my MIL's house yesterday and she was talking about how upset she and her brother are that her niece's husband will not be at Thanksgiving dinner for the second year in a row because he will be with his family on Long Island (about 3 hours away). Of course, her niece won't make that trip to share the day with her husband because 1) she is spoiled and refuses to drive in traffic and 2) she is still overly attached to her parents.
She is lucky that my parents are so awesome and love on the other side of the country, because she will not admit that her children are grown and as much as their spouses are now part of her family, her children are part of their spouses' families.
So, what do you guys do for Thanksgiving? Any special traditions or recurring headaches?
Everyone alternates with their inlaws but they're starting to die off.

We get together and have a ton of people. Just me and my sibs and the sibs kids. Then, if a kid has a friend that wants to come over, we do that. Me and my sibs also include steps and foster children but we just call them the kids.

Have I mentioned ever, that I *love* my immediate family when it comes to these things? Always willing to be flexible with holidays due to me working or going to SO's family events.

Doing Thanksgiving with J, my dad, and my sister on Thanksgiving and then I guess another one with J's mom and step-dad on the Saturday after (SIL isn't coming up until Christmas). Then J's family will get Christmas with us and we'll go up and celebrate with my dad and sister on the weekend.

I guess we're not kicking my SIL out at Christmas.*sigh* But, her primary objective while she's here will be packing up her room. If she's getting married in July or whatever, her room is going back to being a generic guest room again. And, for my sanity, they're going to tell us how long they're staying. I don't like the open ended stays at all.

It takes some self-control. For me, I donít post that much at night or on the weekends, even if I donít have much to do. I might pop on once or twice to read some posts, but thatís it. Thatís why I say self-control.

Other than coming on here, I mostly read news websites, which I consider enlightening myself.

At work, I pop on to give myself a break from work every so often and clear my mind, before jumping back into it. If Iím busy, like I am this time of year, I try to stay out of topics that I know will chew up a lot of time with back and forth.

My work has ebbs and flows. Comes with the territory. Some times during the year I have some down time. When thatís the case, so long as I am moving projects along and getting done what needs to get done, whatís the harm with coming on here so long as it doesnít consume your life and become your life.

However, when you have down time, instead of effing around all day on the enet, go live your life ... make plans ... go places Are there projects you want to tackle around the house? Try to bang one of those out every so often.

I will say when I was laid off in CO, I quit topix and pretty much the internet until I found a job. It just didnít want to get trapped in that rut of wasting everyday effing off on here. I didn't think that would be good. Stopped cold turkey for quite a few months. It was the right thing for me.

aside from the piles of leaves in the gutters around here, it looks kinda christmas-y... the village comes and scoops them up, but the trees didn't get the scoop up schedule this year, and dropped leaves late. i have to wait another week (!!) for them to come back. i just hope that they add pick ups before the scheduled ones. as long as they're dry, i don't mind driving through the piles, but it could get interesting with the wet and freezing temps...

parents/grandparents of pre-schoolers: what do you think of this idea?

would you consider buying one at a craft fair for your own or someone else's kid? I'm thinking of maybe doing a craft fair of quilted stuff, but this looks like a fun something else,...

I didn't get the schedule, so now big pile waiting for the city's 2nd scoop, i think next week. kind of pretty with the snow covered leaves. They do a pretty good job. I don't want to bag so its just blowing them to the parkway.

Evening. back home fromt he hospital.

They drained 1.3 liters of fluid from my right lung today. Feeling weird, coughy.

Down 24 pounds in five weeks. Not the safest, healthiest way to lose weight (it's hard on your kidneys, among other things).

Hope to feel better tomorrow when my lung has expanded back to its normal size.

I'm addicted to Breaking Bad. I think I'm on S3E10. Not bad, having started last Saturday. Too tired tonight to watch, I think -- will just eat small amounts as often as possible (ice cream!), then go to bed after HIMYM, maybe.

Good you're home. Sux to have this going on. That's a ton of fluid. Rest up, eat well. Get yourself a nutritionist. The mom in me want you to eat a ton of proteins and antioxidants.

I would have loved one of those for my kids, though I don't know how much I would have spent on it. They had a Curious George game like this that was their favorite for a couple of years, but this is better because it is car-friendly.
