I agree. But it seems to have become something of a meme for high profile unresolved disappearances. It is just an update though. Nothing new.

I thought everybody knew that when the hole in the Chicago River flooded the tunnels under the Loop, that they found Hoffa's body there.

Probably got sucked out to the lake. I wonder how they ever got all those mattresses out.

I was riding the Metra NorthLine in that morning and could see the whirlpool from the train , where the water looked like it was going down the drain before they started with the mattresses. Neat.

If anyone ca do the research I would be very curious how far off my memory of this is. I thought Jane Byrne was trying to get the 1992 Olympics for Chicago ( which she obviously didn't) but that if she had been successful, opening day would have been the day of the Flood.

It was the World's Fair, not the Olympics.

In an article dated in 2009 (Link: http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/thesk... )

"Think of the Museum Campus.

Back in the 1980s, then-Mayor Jane Byrne touted the idea of unified, landscaped campus that would join the Field Museum, the Shedd Aquarium and the Adler Planetarium. It would be a major legacy, she said, of the planned 1992 Chicago World's Fair.

Political infighting helped kill the fair. Yet the inspired notion that Chicago could shift the northbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive westward to create parkland acquired enough political momentum that it came off anyway -- just a few years later than anticipated.

The equivalent in Chicago's Olympic plans is the proposal to convert the former Michael Reese Hospital campus at 29th Street and Ellis Avenue into a high-rise residential complex that would serve as the Olympic Village."

Article is much longer. The above is to give you the flavor of it.

I was off by a week.
The World's Fair opened April 20, 1992 in Seville Spain; the Chicago Flood was April 13, 1992.

If Chicago had gone forward with the Fair, it would have been a major embarrassment and an incredible uproar because of all the pre-opening festivities when the Flood occurred. Everything happens for a reason, I guess.

Thanks for looking that up- I had forgotten it was the World's Fair.

FWIW, I saw the Fair in Seville the end of May. It was pretty cool.

I am making this with the left over smoked prime rib. What a friggin lot of work. If I had known, I probably would have just reheated and eaten it with mashed potato.

There are way to many words and steps to that recipe.

I make it all the time. You can really really really cut down the work if you keep in mind that it's at its core...a stew.

You don't have to use the little pearl onions unless you just want to. I just use regular sweet onions (Maui, Walla Walla, Vidalia, whatever) diced up kinda medium sized and pre-sliced mushrooms. Get some carrots, trim the tops (peel if you want to, I do) potatoes, and some thyme and wine. I use those itty bitty potatoes that you don't even have to peel.

I get carrots in the bunch with the tops and don't even cut them into chunks, jut peel and cut the tops, but you can do that if you want to. I can normally have this in the oven ready to go in 20 mins. Cook (raw meat) 2.5 hours and voila...dinner.

The meat is already cooked so all you really have to do is throw the carrots and potatoes in a pot with the meat, thyme, and wine and let it cook for about an hour. Brown the onions and mushrooms and throw them in when its done. If you don't want to brown the onions and mushrooms, just put them in the pot with the other stuff when you put it in the oven.

They make it way way way more complicated than it needs to be. I think Julia Child's recipe takes up something like 7 pages. Dude...

The first few times I made this I did it step by freaking step. Yeah, no. Same thing with ratatouille...way way way too many streps for a vegetable stew. This is peasant food for crissakes!

I want to win the lottery so i don't have to do what i have to do for a living... we're not greedy, a 6-digit win would be fine; that would pay off a mortgage or sock some away for retirement (early or not), and buy us some time to find that "if you like what yuo do you wont' work a day in your life" job...

I'm greedy; I'll take the big 'un.

Was talking to my dad about his retirement the other day. He was saying how he didn't understand the people that didn't want to retire and were freaked out about being bored or losing their purpose in life. He does not have that problem, and I am pretty sure I wouldn't either.

I'm getting a massage at work tomorrow at 3:15 or something. Can't remember the exact time -- have it in my Outlook. They try to be all "we take care of our people" when the summers are in. All this good crap stops in August when they go back to law school and we go back to practically slave status (not meaning to demean any decedents of slaves). Hey, bonus for me during the summer!

I posted this on one of the Amby's by mistake.

Okay- change of subject.
On my Samsung Smartphone is it more secure to use an app or to go to a website using the internet for the same information and interaction?

When I use an app am I consuming data at the saw rate as when I use the internet for the same function?

I really like my JOy of Cooking cookbook, but one annoying thing they do is they don't give you ALL of the ingredients up front. THey give you ingredients as they recipe goes along.

I didn't realize this, so I looked up a recipe, got the list of ingredients, shopped. THen when I was ready to cook/bake, I got the cookbook back out, got out the ingredients, and started. Got to the end of the page and turned the page and holy crap! here are MORE ingredients! WTF? I had to send my ex to the store right away so I could finish what I'd started. Now I look ahead to make sure it won't happen again, but that was annoying.
