I laugh every time I read it because it is so true.
So true!

And dumping Comcast for Uverse was my favorite part of moving last December.

Katherine Heigl wasn't as terrible as I'd anticipated in that movie, actually. But my expectations were set pretty low.

Ditto!

Might I recommend "Bastard Out Of Carolina" by Dorothy Allison. I'm reading it now for my IRL book club. It's an easy read that makes you feel grateful for your own life.

<quoted text>For years we have had phone-internet-cable with Comcast w/all premium channels...approx $230 monthly....decided to lose premium channels, so were told it would be $169 plus tax and to call back on 3-22.....When called on 3-22, the lady spoke to her superior...then came back at $168 plus tax, including same premium channels as before......bewildering?.....
They have new promotions running all the time. That is very frustrating to me, because many of them are not advertised (at least not well), so you have to call when your current promo ends and see what they are offering that is comparable. Sometimes it's a better deal, sometimes you have to do some prioritizing.

Also, it depends on which customer service agent you get on the phone. Most of them around here are awesome and work with you if you are nice to them. Occasionally I will get one who makes me want to bang the phone against my forehead multiple times.

I've never been in a book club, but I'm willing to give it a shot.

What should we start with?

It took me from Christmas until two days ago to get through the previous book I was on, "The Birth Order Book" by Kevin Lehman. Suddenly, it's nice enough to sit outside with the dogs and I've got that one finished and "Bastard" almost done. Heh. Warm weather rules. Soon I'll have my maple tree to sit under in the shade.

For some rason I don't get alerted when there are new Reg posts...

I got asked to join a book club IRL and I haven't joined yet (it's oly 2 months old). I would have read the first book but had a problem getting it. the second one looks like a real sleeper. A love story in 1950s Burma. Really??? Just doesn't sound good to me.

But I would be willing to try a Regs one...

Hello Squishymama. This serious was absolutely hilarious, laugh out loud funny. But that type of humor has never transferred to the big screen very well. YOu have to know what they are thinking and that just doesn't happen on the movie screen.:)

My friend works the customer service phones at Comcast and you are absolutely right. He said there are people there (in "retention" dept.) who can see deals on their screens that he and his peers don't have access to.

That is very funny.....I'm curious as to how these guy's figure their marketing.....Example: I occasionally love Burger King and we have one very close.....They have television commercials about special deals often....yet, when i get to mine's drive-thru, they have zero indication of any special promotions.....and will only cop, if you remember to bring it up.......lol....curious way to build customer loyalty, eh?....

This is the next book I'm going to read:

I think I saw the parents on Oprah or something awhile back and my sister told me about the book and then got it for me for Christmas. It's non-fiction though.

from the consumer end, it sucks to see deals only for new customers, but it seems to me, the job of promotions and advertising is to bring in customers who would not have otherwise come in. If you are already coming in and buying stuff without any enticement...good. Why give you a deal if there is no threat of losing your business?

I even just read a story the other day with Starbucks mgmt saying exactly that. I don't do starbucks, but I guess they have some sort of loyalty program, but from the sounds of it, its mainly for collecting customer information and spending habits. The thinking is, if you're already coming in here every day, why would I give you a discount? You've demonstrated you don't need any incentive to continue giving us your money.

from the article wrote:
The company uses it card information to segment consumers and set up business rules based on purchase behavior, then pumps out offers immediately to them, often via their mobile devices. In the past, that purchase information may have only been available on a weekly basis.

Often, that means targeting deals to people the firm worries are at risk of not returning soon. As for the ultra-loyalists who show up multiple times each week, "Why would we give them a discount?" quipped Mr. LaCugna.
