yes. your employer should only be concerned with your ability to do the job you are being paid to do. can't do your job from jail

This guy on the plane was the president of his company. High profile for a company who is in business to make money. If the perception of him is that he did the deeds on the plane then it will be very difficult for him to hold the respect of clients and employees. This impedes the business of the company. Guilty or not guilty, they were right to remove him from that position. Drunk, racist, hitting a child? All of this combined makes the case. It's all in the perception within the company.

This is different from a clerk or some other lower level job. Like it or not, that is the nature of business.

Idaho is known for being a center for skinheads and KKK/Aryan type groups.

Here's a link and the relevant Q&A from the link: http://www.ada.gov/q%26aeng02.htm
Q. Are alcoholics covered by the ADA?
A. Yes. While a current illegal user of drugs is not protected by the ADA if an employer acts on the basis of such use, a person who currently uses alcohol is not automatically denied protection. An alcoholic is a person with a disability and is protected by the ADA if s/he is qualified to perform the essential functions of the job. An employer may be required to provide an accommodation to an alcoholic. However, an employer can discipline, discharge or deny employment to an alcoholic whose use of alcohol adversely affects job performance or conduct. An employer also may prohibit the use of alcohol in the workplace and can require that employees not be under the influence of alcohol.
I worked for a subcontractor of the federal government and any fired employee had to be asked whether he had a substance abuse problem and needed help. If he said yes, then there were steps to follow. If he said no,then he was out the door.

We were required by the federal government to do that.

So people should lose their jobs for being charged with a crime? What if they are not convicted? What if they are falsely accused? If they cannot earn any income, you gona pay their expenses? Feed them? House them?
Should Kobe have been kicked off the Lakers for a booty call that accused him of rape? He's never been convicted of that crime?
What about the Duke Lacrosse team accused of rape? Came to light that the DA ignored the facts and wanted to make a high profile example of them regardless of their innocence.
But you're ok with a speedy job loss because justice is not swift enough for you?

I see you've completely ignored the rest of the relevant points of the question.
Guess I'm answering edogg style. What were the relevant points in your eyes?

[QUOTE who="Mister Tonka"]Was he bringing a weapon into the workplace?
edogxxx wrote:
Maybe.
Maybe? So if I drink on myt personal time then "maybe" I'm drinking at work too. What he does with his weapon off the clock is not the boss's business.
Mister Tonka wrote:
Was he a hot head at work?
edogxxx wrote:
Kinda.
Kinda? Did he ever knock anyone down? Threaten anyone? Pull out his gun? Was ther ever any cause in the workplace for someone to fear him for their safety?
Mister Tonka wrote:
I don't see how it pertains to his job performance.
edogxxx wrote:

Race carries a loaded gun. So do many Americans. Aren't you one of the people that trumpets about the liberals trying to take away your guns? Now you have a problem with someone who carries a loaded weapon? How hard is it to talk with both sides of your mouth so full of shit? If he's not bringing that waepon into the workplace, its none of the boss man's concern.
Mister Tonka wrote:
"No" - Racist remarks. Cool with the dog. big surprise.
edogxxx wrote:
Initially, I was gonna ask if he didn't show any racism at work, how would anyone know he's a racist? But I know you'd probably counter with maybe his boss saw his social media page or blog with him dressed as KKK. But if he doesn't show any at work (which is unlikely) then what's the big deal?
Well if he's not firing off weapons and knocking people to the ground at work, what's the big deal?
Mister Tonka wrote:
"Maybe" - Firing a good employee who stikes someone. And what is your criteria for choosing either yes or no?
"Depends" - Same thing. What is your criteria for deterimining if a fight during your personal time is a firable offense.

Incorrect. If he's the president, who fired him?
The story I posted had a statement from his company saying he was a "business unit executive".

Nick's oldest is getting eye surgery this morning.

Last night I bought two albums on itunes -- King's X "Gretchen GOes to nebraska" and Crooked Fingers' "Bring on the Snakes." I love replacing lost CDs!!!

It's very boring at work. Half the people are out at training all week.

Pellen,
Alcoholism is classified as a disease. That's why they can get away with using the ADA as a crutch.
My experience with alcoholics has been nothing but negative and they are the worst people in the world to have to deal with, IMHO.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

1- should teachers, police officers, et al, be put on suspension during an investigation of serious allegations, or should they continue serving the public?

2- If you are a "drunk," a certified alcoholic, then it is very possible you can either show up to work drunk, or drink on the job. Again, fifty shades of gray, you are wanting only black and white.

3- if you are a violent criminal, it most certainly IS your boss's business. Just because he never actually pulled his gun on people at work, doesn't mean it would never happen.

4- I have a problem with CRIMINALS carrying a loaded weapon anywhere.

Quit being a deliberately obtuse @zz.

Dickie loves King's X. I'd never heard of them before I met him.

Have you ever heard Infectious Grooves? It's a couple folks from Suicidal Tendencies and the drummer from Jane's Addiction. They only really made one real album, but it is good. Can probably find it cheap too.

Suspension does equal being fired. I am against firing someone over an allegation. If you want to suspend someone pending the outcome of an investigation, fine. Just keep paying them until they have been proven guilty of some wrong doing.
edogxxx wrote:

This country is full of weekend warriors who get toasted on friday and saturday night but have zero problem staying away from the booze during the work week. Your analogy is ludicrous.

If you are a violent criminal, that is the law's responsibility to punish. You've still been very vague as to whether or not your co-worker served jail time. If he did, then fire his ass. Not holding a job open for someone in jail.
edogxxx wrote:

Are they breaking the law by carrying that weapon? Then call the cops. If htey are not breaking the law, its none of your f'n business.

Clarification: you may be in a protected class, but given the combination of booze and the guns and the boat you are an endangered species.
