I've been busy off and on all week. School takes up so much of my time that I kinda have to parcel it out in small increments. I've made about 6 pies, which will be one per person this year. My son's gf is coming which will be nice as I haven't seen her in a few months, then just some of the family.Happy Sunday all... I've been busy for a weekend morning, but i'll probably peak around 2... i've got the turkey thawing and the chicken stock brewing. Next up is a trip to the european grocery for fresh veggies and some other last minute odds & ends. Hope everyone else's day is as productive as you want it to be!
I have most of the veggies cut up and put in containers in the fridge (per Alton Brown), turkey will come out of the freezer tomorrow. It's only 10 pounds so it won't take long to thaw out (or cook!). I have a (small) prime rib marinating in my blue cheese and pepper marinade and a leg of lamb marinating in my super secret lemon mint marinade (lemon curd and fresh mint).
I'm doing the default (yuk) green bean casserole with the soup and fried onions because everyone (not me) likes it and sweet potatoes but no yams. I'm going to do the sweet potatoes "breaded" in pulverized toffee nut peanuts in a gratin with Parmesan. I tested it already. Yummy. Oh and NO MARSHMALLOWS. I hate marshmallows so I don't even want them in my house.
I also added roasted parsnips to the menu this year. Everyone looks at them like they are an alien plant. It's my mission to add them wherever I can until these people open their minds to something beyond Hamburger Helper.
