Anyone have AT&T U-verse for TV & internet? The only downside is that apparently the installation is a bit of a process and might take hours. Yes, hours. But it will be worth it. I'm hoping it won't take TOO long since I only have one TV.
They have to install a satellite dish (att uses direct tv.) Then run all the wires and stuff, so that can take a little time. Installing the internet shouldn't take as long though.

I think ATT discontinued their association with Direct. Isn't this U-verse a plumped up version of cable but through the phone lines?

I do have Dish and I would not trade that for cable or ATT.
You really have to check the fine print for prices on this stuff.

Oh, I miss my U-verse. I used to have it. Then I moved and had to have Comcast.

When I had it years ago, installation took about an hour. Probably depends how much wiring you need.

I miss my U-verse!

I am on the low tech end of things. When I was shopping for the smartphone I looked at Consumer Reports. I know they rated cable service too. It won't help if you don't have a choice but they are very good about explaining what you are getting into

According to my friend at work who has U-verse, they don't use a dish. I think I remember another friend telling me that they use the same cable lines as the cable company (the phone lines would be DSL but isn't that obsolete?).

Everyone has their own preference. I did love U-verse, though.

Here's about their lines: http://www.att.com/u-verse/explore/fiber-tech...

Cool, thanks.

I just talked to my friend who told me they use cable lines, and he said he'd give his left nut to have U-verse again (he moved to a tiny little town with limited options).

Didn't realize that, guess I'm behind on the times. I switched to direct tv first and changed my internet over later (dam Comcast pzzed me off for the last time!) The router and stuff was a little expensive, but now I'm paying 30 a mo for internet and 78 for TV (no movie channels). Does that seem reasonable or am I getting screwed?

I'm paying $15 to ATT for the slowest speed and about $70 to Dish for two separate receivers, DVD, middle programming, no premium channels. The only problem is when there is a really bad thunderstorm, not that frequent. I get a great picture without the HD service. And I have a connection on the back of the receiver for my outside antenna. I use multiple remotes for two other rooms with a TV. I just wire them up from the basement. The guy who installed Dish when I changed from Direct couldn't figure out my wiring. But it all works.

The *only* thing I don't like about having a dish is that it doesn't work well in bad weather.

But the internet still works so I can still watch the game and or porn.

Still better than Crapcast.

cable seems like it's in the same ballpark as Nick.

Internet: First six months are $15 or $25/month (depending on which of the two ways you go), second six months are $45/month, then after that it goes up to $62/month. I think $62 for internet is ridiculous.

Crapcast's service has gotten worse and worse over the years, and the people they hire as contractors for the internet part are SCARY. They must recruit next to crack houses or something. And these people know less about wireless networking than I do.

I saw an ad for a "new" internet service the other day. I can't remember the name though. I wanted to check it out because I'm paying 65 to Comcast just for internet, plus whatever it is for cable. I think the average bill is like 180, with no movie channels and no premium channels. We do have the dvr so there's a charge for that plus the HD service. I know I could get rid of the HD and the dvr, but i LOVE the dvr...

I would consider DISH or Direct TV, but my lease says I can't put up a dish, s I'm stuck with cable. There's another cable service here through the city, but the cost is the same so there's really no point...

Happy Saturday, Regs!

I've had a pretty productive day: got the car cleaned, went tanning, picked up a few things at Target, got a pedi and brows waxed (that was interesting... they're almost gone. New girl at the salon today), and since I have four boxes packed I can say that I officially started packing.

Surprise surprise, dinner with A's boyfriend is once again postponed. I even asked her if she thought it was strange that he kept backing out and that she's been trying to get this to happen for weeks. She said she didn't really know why and maybe he's nervous about meeting new people. Dude, by age 36 as a normally functioning adult, you'd think a person would be used to meeting new people.

A and I had the most ironic conversation. Boyfriend was supposed to come up this morning, spend the week with her, and then go to Thanksgiving with her. Apparently this morning he said he had a lot to do and would be later getting here and that it might be tomorrow. A was frustrated that he didn't commit to a time or even which day and she said she was annoyed just waiting around for him and not able to make plans. Hello! Really, that's annoying and inconsiderate? I had NO IDEA. Because it's not like I've ever been through that, with you two, last week!

Do you know his name and roughly where he lives? Have you Googled him or looked on any the FL official websites to see if his name pops up? Is he on FB/My Space/LinkedIn/, the usual places where you are supposed to use your name?

Good idea, I just googled. Unfortunately he shares his first and last name with a Mexican news anchor.
:/

His Facebook is private.

Yeah, but it's good to see her. Brought her new boyfriend. He's cool. My MIL was a PITA.
