I'm paying $15 to ATT for the slowest speed and about $70 to Dish for two separate receivers, DVD, middle programming, no premium channels. The only problem is when there is a really bad thunderstorm, not that frequent. I get a great picture without the HD service. And I have a connection on the back of the receiver for my outside antenna. I use multiple remotes for two other rooms with a TV. I just wire them up from the basement. The guy who installed Dish when I changed from Direct couldn't figure out my wiring. But it all works.
The *only* thing I don't like about having a dish is that it doesn't work well in bad weather.

But the internet still works so I can still watch the game and or porn.

Still better than Crapcast.

Didn't realize that, guess I'm behind on the times. I switched to direct tv first and changed my internet over later (dam Comcast pzzed me off for the last time!) The router and stuff was a little expensive, but now I'm paying 30 a mo for internet and 78 for TV (no movie channels). Does that seem reasonable or am I getting screwed?
cable seems like it's in the same ballpark as Nick.

Internet: First six months are $15 or $25/month (depending on which of the two ways you go), second six months are $45/month, then after that it goes up to $62/month. I think $62 for internet is ridiculous.

Crapcast's service has gotten worse and worse over the years, and the people they hire as contractors for the internet part are SCARY. They must recruit next to crack houses or something. And these people know less about wireless networking than I do.

I saw an ad for a "new" internet service the other day. I can't remember the name though. I wanted to check it out because I'm paying 65 to Comcast just for internet, plus whatever it is for cable. I think the average bill is like 180, with no movie channels and no premium channels. We do have the dvr so there's a charge for that plus the HD service. I know I could get rid of the HD and the dvr, but i LOVE the dvr...

I would consider DISH or Direct TV, but my lease says I can't put up a dish, s I'm stuck with cable. There's another cable service here through the city, but the cost is the same so there's really no point...

Happy Saturday, Regs!

I've had a pretty productive day: got the car cleaned, went tanning, picked up a few things at Target, got a pedi and brows waxed (that was interesting... they're almost gone. New girl at the salon today), and since I have four boxes packed I can say that I officially started packing.

Surprise surprise, dinner with A's boyfriend is once again postponed. I even asked her if she thought it was strange that he kept backing out and that she's been trying to get this to happen for weeks. She said she didn't really know why and maybe he's nervous about meeting new people. Dude, by age 36 as a normally functioning adult, you'd think a person would be used to meeting new people.

A and I had the most ironic conversation. Boyfriend was supposed to come up this morning, spend the week with her, and then go to Thanksgiving with her. Apparently this morning he said he had a lot to do and would be later getting here and that it might be tomorrow. A was frustrated that he didn't commit to a time or even which day and she said she was annoyed just waiting around for him and not able to make plans. Hello! Really, that's annoying and inconsiderate? I had NO IDEA. Because it's not like I've ever been through that, with you two, last week!

Do you know his name and roughly where he lives? Have you Googled him or looked on any the FL official websites to see if his name pops up? Is he on FB/My Space/LinkedIn/, the usual places where you are supposed to use your name?

Good idea, I just googled. Unfortunately he shares his first and last name with a Mexican news anchor.
:/

His Facebook is private.

Yeah, but it's good to see her. Brought her new boyfriend. He's cool. My MIL was a PITA.

Nosiness would get the best of me. I'd probably do one of those cheap background checks. Maybe not, really. I'd consider it, though.

Happy Sunday all... I've been busy for a weekend morning, but i'll probably peak around 2... i've got the turkey thawing and the chicken stock brewing. Next up is a trip to the european grocery for fresh veggies and some other last minute odds & ends. Hope everyone else's day is as productive as you want it to be!

It has crossed my mind, but since he's from Peru I don't know how much info I'd get on a US background check, and I'm sure an international one is pricey. We'll see if he pushes me to that point.

That is what Topix is for.

Go onto some of teh other forums and ask how to do a background check on someone from Peru.(Don't use your regular sign in name to prevent troll attacks). You will get lots of help.

Does your job have an international arm? Ask one of your South American people how to do it.

Not sure if you want to get near DHS or ICE, but that is a possibility. Does A have any money?. He could be targeting her, ask her for a loan because the wire transfer did not come through and then disappear. Sorry for the paranoia but he is not a shy 14 year old and his avoidance has happened a number of times.

I've been busy off and on all week. School takes up so much of my time that I kinda have to parcel it out in small increments. I've made about 6 pies, which will be one per person this year. My son's gf is coming which will be nice as I haven't seen her in a few months, then just some of the family.

I have most of the veggies cut up and put in containers in the fridge (per Alton Brown), turkey will come out of the freezer tomorrow. It's only 10 pounds so it won't take long to thaw out (or cook!). I have a (small) prime rib marinating in my blue cheese and pepper marinade and a leg of lamb marinating in my super secret lemon mint marinade (lemon curd and fresh mint).

I'm doing the default (yuk) green bean casserole with the soup and fried onions because everyone (not me) likes it and sweet potatoes but no yams. I'm going to do the sweet potatoes "breaded" in pulverized toffee nut peanuts in a gratin with Parmesan. I tested it already. Yummy. Oh and NO MARSHMALLOWS. I hate marshmallows so I don't even want them in my house.

I also added roasted parsnips to the menu this year. Everyone looks at them like they are an alien plant. It's my mission to add them wherever I can until these people open their minds to something beyond Hamburger Helper.

Wow! A quick google search.

For JMW, mostly -- http://www.infocubic.net/international/peru.h...

With us. Boyfriend is riding one of our couches. They go back to school today and then spend actual Thanksgiving with his family. Kinda surprised my MIL didn't flip a gasket over that. But she was still weepy and a pain in the arse yesterday.
