Don't worry about that, you nervous Nellie. With Obama winning the election, the world is surely going to end long before the next presidential vote.
I certainly hope so!

I am liberal on a couple of issues. I'm all for the legalization of marijuana and support a woman's right to chose. But because I'm opposed to gay marriage you're assuming I'm an extreme right. Now who's painting who with a broad brush? I'm all for a type of civil union, if that helps any, but "marriage" is strictly for one man and one woman who aren't related.

I know some people around here are just bullies. It is easy to be a bully when you are part of the majority.

I'm in the majority here where I live. I can't imagine being a bully with it. If anything, that position of strength that comes with being in the majority should let someone lighten up and not feel threatened.

I didn't mean that all people in the majority are bullies. I meant that it's easier for the bullies to hide when they are in the majority.

Then you end up being too smug. And you wake up one day and find yourself in the minority again.

People who are not "big picture" people should not get to decide what is and is not "need to know" information.

My husband forgets to tell me details all the time. They may not be important to him, but they are usually pretty important to me. Argh!

Jess, you never present yourself as an extreme right b/c you listen to what people say. It doesn't necessarily change your mind, but you're interested. Edog, you dismiss people too easily when they disagree with you and call them names. Of course people think of you more as a Tea Party person than anything else.

Edog, it's good to hear you pick and choose to what you believe. I wonder, though, why civil union for gays? What do you think it would take from marriage as it stands now? Is it a monetary issue or is it a moral issue with you?

It was the best $25 I spent all week. Certainly better than the $256 I'm about to spend on the speeding ticket.:(

Which is a good segue to explain what I meant yesterday about the plans with A falling through and how it's costing me money indirectly. She originally brought it up the weekend before last about her boyfriend coming up here this weekend to meet her friends (not just me) and we'd all go out to dinner. So a few days later, Jasper offered to come down here and stay with the dogs while I was out of town. I told him no thanks for a few reasons: if he's going to come down for three nights, I'd rather be home the whole time instead of just the last one (I got home at midnight last night); I had plans with A on Saturday night to finally meet her boyfriend; and ironically, I didn't want to rearrange my schedule around Jasper and be "that girl" - after all, he did move away. By not changing my plans to accommodate him, I was trying to move on.

So he ended up coming down last Sunday & Monday nights instead. On Monday morning, I emailed A to firm up our plans and at that point she wasn't sure and told me not to plan around her. I told her I already had and I didn't think it was fair to ask Jasper to come back down again in a few days (he couldn't have just stayed here the whole time, he had to teach up there on Thursday night).

So by not taking Jasper up on the offer to watch the dogs, I spent $175 on the kennel and $256 on a speeding ticket I wouldn't have gotten had I not been dropping the dogs off at the kennel.

Jasper called right before I landed and turned my phone on last night and I tried to call him back twice and didn't reach him. My brain is in overdrive and if anything happened to him, I'll regret this whole fucked up weekend for the rest of my life.

"But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of god; holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth."

Relax, honey, I'm sure he's fine.

$256 for a speeding ticket!!?

Anyway, I'm a little stoked! Going to a welcome home party today for my friend who's been living abroad. Excited to see her again! Even though she's a hard-core liberal :(

That's because she was abroad and saw how good socialism is.

Wow on some of these ages
That was an incredible article. I never felt like I lost myself when I had my child (who is an adult now), I felt more like I was experiencing a different side of life. I can understand someone who doesn't want a child would feel trapped if they had a child.

Very sad.
