NAZI PROPAGANDA

"Propaganda tries to force a doctrine on the whole people... Propaganda works on the general public from the standpoint of an idea and makes them ripe for the victory of this idea." Adolf Hitler wrote these words in his book Mein Kampf (1926), in which he first advocated the use of propaganda to spread the ideals of National Socialism -- among them racism, antisemitism, and anti-Bolshevism.

Following the Nazi seizure of power in 1933, Hitler established a Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda headed by Joseph Goebbels. The Ministry's aim was to ensure that the Nazi message was successfully communicated through art, music, theater, films, books, radio, educational materials, and the press.

There were several audiences for Nazi propaganda. Germans were reminded of the struggle against foreign enemies and Jewish subversion. During periods preceding legislation or executive measures against Jews, propaganda campaigns created an atmosphere tolerant of violence against Jews, particularly in 1935 (before the Nuremberg Race Laws of September) and in 1938 (prior to the barrage of antisemitic economic legislation following Kristallnacht). Propaganda also encouraged passivity and acceptance of the impending measures against Jews, as these appeared to depict the Nazi government as stepping in and “restoring order.”

Real and perceived discrimination against ethnic Germans in east European nations which had gained territory at Germany's expense following World War I, such as Czechoslovakia and Poland, was the subject of Nazi propaganda. This propaganda sought to elicit political loyalty and so-called race consciousness among the ethnic German populations. It also sought to mislead foreign governments -- including the European Great Powers -- that Nazi Germany was making understandable and fair demands for concessions and annexations.

VIDEO: Democrat Rep:‘You Don’t Have a Right to Know’ What’s Going on in Your Government

July 25, 2014 By Greg Campbell

ZNortonRemember when the Obama Administration was meant to serve as the model for how a transparent government is supposed to operate? That promise of “hope’n’change” has produced the most secretive government administrations in the history of this nation.

To add insult to injury, the Democrats have continually fought to defend the president’s violations, abuses and secrecy with a hubris not seen in government since the days of King Louis XVI.

On Friday, Eleanor Holmes Norton, the non-voting congressional representative for the District of Columbia, defended the Obama Administration angrily as she declared that Americans have no right to know what goes on in their government.
“You don’t have a right to know everything in a separation-of-powers government, my friend. That is the difference between a parliamentary government and a separation-of-powers government,” Norton claimed during a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing.
Allow me to make this clear: A Democrat representative told the House Oversight Committee that they have no right to scrutinize government. The committee, as the name would suggest, is responsible for overseeing the federal government as a check against abuses of power.

What Norton seems to have confused is that it is the very principle of scrutiny that defines a government that is equipped with a separation of powers. Each branch of government checks the power of the other branches of government.

It’s amazing that America possesses even one citizen who would believe such an obvious falsehood; it’s even more outrageous that America has a representative in Congress who believes this.

Man Shoots Teen Girl After She Asks Him to Stop Riding Lawnmower In Her Yard

A dispute over trespassing led to the shooting of a 17-year-old girl in Minnesota, according to authorities.

July 24, 2014 |

A Minnesota man who admitted shooting a 17-year-old girl multiple times because she asked him to stop trespassing on his riding lawnmower has been charged with attempted first-degree murder.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by The Associated Press, 40-year-old Chad Pickering shot the 17-year-old girl in the chest, right thigh and left ankle while she was standing on the deck of her Bemidji home on Monday night.

WCCO reported that Pickering had been employed at the Northwestern Minnesota Juvenile Center as a corrections worker until June 9 of this year.

Hungry U.S. Power Plant Turns to Russia for Coal Shipment
By Mario Parker Jul 16, 2014 4:30 PM ET
When New Hampshire’s largest utility needed to rebuild coal supplies after the past frigid winter, it turned to Russia rather than Appalachia in the U.S. Northeast or Wyoming’s Powder River Basin.

The Doric Victory, a bulk carrier the length of two football fields, transported the fuel almost 4,000 miles (6,436 kilometers) from Riga, Latvia, last month to Public Service of New Hampshire’s Schiller power plant in Portsmouth, a 150-megawatt facility that’s produced electricity since 1952.

Utilities in the U.S. are scrambling for coal, on pace to increase imports 26 percent this year, as railroad bottlenecks slow deliveries and electricity demand climbs with an improving economy. Russia, the world’s third-largest exporter of the fuel, will boost shipments 3.9 percent to 106 million metric tons this year, IHS Energy forecasts, part of President Vladimir Putin’s plan to expand Russia’s role in the global coal market.

“Everyone’s aware that a number of plants have low stockpiles, so you hear Russian coal and they say,‘Oh wow, people must really be desperate,’” James Stevenson, Houston-based director of North American coal at IHS, said in a July 8 telephone interview.

The New Hampshire utility declined to disclose the amount of coal that it purchased from Russia. U.S. bill of lading data show that 38,500 metric tons of steam coal were delivered.

Russian Coal

“A shipment of coal was contracted from Russia that met our operational and economic needs,” was all the utility was willing to say in an e-mail.

U.S.-Russia relations are at a post-Cold War low after Russia’s annexation of Ukraine’s Crimea. The U.S. and European Union have imposed sanctions on companies and individuals tied to Putin’s inner circle and are considering further penalties.

The Russian fuel appeals to power producers because it emits less sulfur than other coals, making it easier to comply with environmental rules, and has a high heat content, meaning it can produce more power per measure of fuel, Stevenson said.

In 2012, Putin pledged to spend $120 billion in public and private funds to expand Russia’s coal mining capacity and boost exports through 2030. The country has the second-largest reserves behind the U.S., government data show.

Russia’s abundant supply of natural gas, also used to generate electricity, gives it the ability to flood the seaborne coal market, the U.S. Energy Department says. Exports from Russia have swelled 94 percent from January 2010 through May, data compiled by Bloomberg show.

Coal Burning

U.S. utilities burned 30 million tons of coal inventories in the first quarter, EIA data show. March was the coldest for the month since 2002 in the contiguous 48 U.S. states, according to the National Climatic Data center, boosting power demand. In spring, an increase in oil and ethanol transport clogged the railways and slowed efforts by power generators to rebuild supply.

Some utilities have as little as 20 days of reserves, Bill Davison, vice president of thermal coal sales at Alpha Natural Resources Inc.(ANR), said last month at a conference in New York.

Tennessee Valley Authority temporarily idled the Bull Run plant in May to rebuild supply, Vince Stroud, the company’s director of coal origination, said last month in an interview at the IHS McCloskey Coal USA conference in New York.

Rail Service

Power producers have placed an emphasis on reliability of supply, whether it’s domestic or imported, as they try to increase inventories and navigate spotty rail service, said Frank Kolojeski, director of marketing at Exporting Commodities International Inc., a brokerage in Marlton, New Jersey.

“A lot of companies were reluctant to go out and buy spot coal because they weren’t sure it would get delivered,” he said in a July 2 telephone interview.

The U.S. imported 34 million tons of coal in 2008, a year in which the fuel accounted for 48 percent of electricity generation, government data show. Foreign purchases tumbled to 8.9 million tons by last year as coal’s share of electricity consumption dropped to 39 percent while gas use gained.

Coal buyers, producers and shippers responded to shrinking imports by idling or reallocating equipment, Kolojeski said.

“Everybody had been used to five years of dormancy,” he said.“All of a sudden there was a surge in demand. It caught everybody off guard.”

In December days of coal supply fell below 60 days for the first time since summer 2011, according to the Energy Department’s statistical arm.

Rising Imports

In the first quarter, the most recent period for which data is available, U.S. imports ballooned 71 percent to 2.4 million tons, EIA data show.

Companies in the U.S. are finding bargains because the world is currently oversupplied, Stevenson said.“In some ways the Russian coal was a bird in the hand,” he said.

Thermal coal is used to generate electricity, while the metallurgical variety is needed to forge steel.

Coal at the Australian port of Newcastle, Asia’s benchmark price, is down about 17 percent this year at $69.65 a metric ton. Coal for delivery next year to Northwest Europe is down 11 percent at $77.50. On the New York Mercantile Exchange, prices have increased 5.3 percent to $60.50.

The global seaborne coal market may rise 4.6 percent this year to 997 million metric tons and could reach a record 1 billion tons, the Englewood, Colorado-based information company, estimates. Indonesia is the biggest seller of coal, followed by Australia, according to IHS.

Colombia accounted for 67 percent and Indonesian coal made up 23 percent of U.S. imports in the first quarter, according to EIA. In the lower 48 states, the most foreign shipments have flowed in through Tampa, Florida, followed by Boston, the EIA data show.

“If you are on the Atlantic Coast, you have a chance to buy imported coal,” Stevenson said.“If you’re a utility you have to act now and throughout the second half of the year in case there’s a colder winter than last year.”

Germany to Add Most Coal-Fired Plants in Two Decades, IWR Says
By Stefan Nicola Feb 27, 2013 4:55 AM ET
Germany will this year start up more coal-fired power stations than at any time in the past 20 years as the country advances a plan to exit nuclear energy by 2022.

New coal plants with about 5,300 megawatts of capacity will start generating power this year, the Muenster-based IWR renewable energy institute said in an e-mailed statement today, citing data from the German regulator. About 1,000 megawatts of coal-fired capacity are expected to come offline, it said.

Chancellor Angela Merkel, who shut Germany’s oldest atomic reactors two years ago in response to the Fukushima disaster in Japan, is seeking to replace the remaining nuclear plants with renewable generators and efficient fossil-fired stations. Greenhouse gas emissions in Germany, Europe’s biggest economy, rose 1.6 percent last year as more coal was burned to generate power, the Environment Ministry said two days ago.

“The growth in renewables and the decline in power consumption have already fully bridged the gap opened by the shutdowns of the eight nuclear reactors in 2011,” Norbert Allnoch, head of the IWR, said in today’s statement.

NYC QUICKLY INTEGRATES ILLEGALS WITH ID CARD

NYC hasn’t wasted any time in getting illegals integrated into society – they just created an ID card which gives them access to government services, allows them to rent an apartment and even open a bank account.

“We want all New Yorkers to feel very comfortable working with the police,” the New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio stated.“We want them to be very able to identify themselves to police and do it in an atmosphere of safety. This is going to play a crucial role in deepening the relationship between police and community, including a lot of our immigrant communities.”

So they are even being called ‘New Yorkers’ now.

Mr. de Blasio touted the ID card as a security measure for police and citizens.

“We want all New Yorkers to feel very comfortable working with the police,” he said, the New York Daily News reported.“We want them to be very able to identify themselves to police and do it in an atmosphere of safety. This is going to play a crucial role in deepening the relationship between police and community, including a lot of our immigrant communities.”

The card technically is for any city resident. But applicants aren’t going to be asked about their legal status, and council members and the mayor say it’s really aimed at helping the city’s most left-out citizens — the illegals.

“Even for those who already have ID, we’re going to make sure that this card brings a lot to the equation, a lot of benefits that will go with it,” Mr. de Blasio said, the New York Daily News reported.“But for those who don’t have ID, it’s going to be crucial.”

All Embassy staff in Libya evacuated by land to Tunisia under security escort

More than 150 Americans have been evacuated from the U.S. embassy in Tripoli, Libya, amid spiraling militant violence aimed at the Libyan government. "The U.S. together with other countries have decide that because of the freewheeling violence that is taking place particular around the embassy - it presents a real risk to our personnel," Secretary of State John Kerry told reporters during a trip to France.

American officials told NBC News that the 158 Americans, including 80 heavily armed U.S. Marines, left the embassy compound early Saturday in a caravan of SUV's and buses and drove west toward neighboring Tunisia. Besides the Marines who were the embassy’s security force, the caravan was also protected overhead by two American F-16 fighter jets and unmanned drones that shadowed the group on their drive.

UPDATE: The right land of Interstate 77 Northbound has reopened through the East River Mountain Tunnel.

According to Michelle Earl with the Virginia Department of Transportation, crews are reopening Interstate 81 exit 72 to give drivers access to I-77 north.

Traffic will be moving slowly. Earl reminds drivers to use caution.

Electrical repairs inside the tunnel continue. No time frame for reopening the left lane has been established.

--------

UPDATE (WVVA)-Emergency officials now say the northbound side of the East River Mountain Tunnel could reopen sometime overnight. Watch Caroline Bach's report for the latest information.

------

BLUEFIELD (WVVA)- The northbound side of East River Mountain Tunnel could be closed for 'days' after a truck fire inside caused heat and smoke damage.

Tim Farley, Mercer County Emergency Management Director, tells WVVA News that the fire was extinguished and what was left of the truck was removed from the tunnel by 8 p.m.

Farley said all firefighters were out of the tunnel and accounted for. Two suffered smoke inhalation and were transported to a nearby hospital.

There was no word on the condition of the truck driver.

Southbound lanes were closed until just after 10:00 p.m. Friday. The northbound side, however, could remain closed for "days," Farley said, due to heat and smoke damage from the fire.

John Nash Blvd. was partially open to some remaining detoured northbound traffic Friday night. VDOT closed I-77 at Wytheville, Va., earlier in the evening.

Southbound traffic was still being detoured off I-77 at Exit 9 in Princeton, causing delays on Route 460 in the area.

-----

6:50 p.m. UPDATE: The Bluefield Police Department says Route 598 over East River Mountain is currently closed.

Motorists in the Bluefield area are advised to expect lengthy delays as crews work at the scene of a truck fire inside East River Mountain Tunnel.

-----

UPDATE:The following update was issued by VDOT at 6:00 pm.

I-77 remains closed in both directions. Virginia State Police have closed I-77 northbound at I-81 in Wytheville and southbound traffic is being diverted in West Virginia.

Surrounding states have been informed of the incident and the detours and they are sharing that information with motorists via electronic message boards.

VDOT is in the process of coordinating needed infrastructure repairs.

No timeframe has been established for damage assessment and repairs; however, we anticipate the the northbound tunnel closure may be in place for several days.
-------

Bluefield, W. Va.(WVVA)- Traffic comes to a standstill on Interstate 77 when a tractor trailer catches fire inside the East River Mountain Tunnel.

The fire started shortly after 3:00 pm on Friday. Emergency officials say the tractor trailer is carrying 200 gallons of fuel and is hauling paper boxes. Multiple fire departments are on scene.

According to www.511virginia.org , motorists can expect major delays due to the vehicle fire. The north left shoulder, left lane, right lane, and right shoulder are closed. Traffic is backed up around five miles.

WVVA has a crew on scene. Look for more information on WVVA News at five and six.
