The negative effects of rampant illegal immigration into the United States

Article by Waldo Benavidez

At the risk of being called a traitor and immigrant basher I must speak out or at least attempt to express a point of view that I believe has not been even a small part of the debate about illegal immigration, and that issue is the impact illegal immigration has on the working poor of this country; and the political impotence it has injected into the Chicano community. Primarily, the debate has focused on the drain illegal immigration has on institutions such as school systems, health care, jobs and the depression of wages, law enforcement and the criminal justice system. All this is true and the taxpayer funded institutions that are reeling from this huge migration into the United States are the ones that are primarily suppose to be servicing the low income people of this country. In turn, causing low income families to compete for increasingly limited funds, resources and basic survival necessities.

The proponents of open borders or at least unlimited immigration argue that these people are not harming anyone”all they want is work”,”they do not bother anyone” and “they only take jobs not one else wants”, this naive and simplistic rational for illegal immigration fails to acknowledge the far reaching and critical impact on the low income people.

Why the Tea Partier who mistook YMCA kids for foreign terrorists was right

Spotting a bus of immigrant children, the ever-vigilant Kwasman tweeted:“Bus coming in. This is not compassion. This is the abrogation of the rule of law.”

So shrewd is Kwasman that he was able to read the facial expression of these alleged Central American children. As he explained to KPNX-TV Channel 12 in Phoenix,“I was able to actually see some of the children on the buses, and the fear on their faces.”

But, as know-it-all reporter Brahm Resnik couldn’t wait to point out, Kwasman didn’t have the story exactly right:”You know that was a bus with YMCA kids?” asked Resnik. To which Kwasman responded,“They were sad too.” I’m not sure if his response was at all related to the point made by Resnik. I think Kwasman was still processing the trauma of seeing the fearful and sad faces of innocent children on their way back from a day of inhumanely insufferable trust falls and Simon Says games.

Unable to withstand the pressure of the liberals who run the media, Kwasman apologized to Resnik, erased his original tweet and apologized, again, on twitter:“Last tweet not the bus of illegal immigrant children. Thank God…. I apologize for the confusion. That was my error.”

But why is Kwasman apologizing? He got it right! Sure these kids were from a YMCA camp and not Central America. But I bet they were afraid and sad. You know why? Precisely because of the threat of the invasion of other children from different countries. Poll after poll shows that ten-year-olds consistently oppose immigration reform, and embrace an isolationist position on almost every issue.

Or, maybe the bus-riding kids were disturbed by a crowd of hateful, fear-mongering adults who take glee in harassing children who risk their lives fleeing from violence and suffering largely caused by U.S. policies. There’s always that.

In 2010, the average middle-class family took home $49,445, a dropof $3,719 or 7%, in yearly earnings from 10 years earlier. In other words, that family now earns the same amount as in 1996.

The current wave of mass legal and illegal immigration is inextricably linked to the erosion of the middle class in the U.S., and continued high levels of immigration will endanger the role of the middle class in facilitating the upward mobility of the nation's poor, according to a study released today by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR). This growing income stratification between the haves and the have-nots in the U.S. was ignited with the legal immigration increases in 1965 and is pushing the economic class structure in America towards those of Third World countries.

"Mass legal and illegal immigration is fattening the rich, increasing the poor, and shrinking the middle," said Jack Martin, the study's author. "The American middle class, the primary social stabilizing unit in U.S. society, is being sacrificed on the altar of mass immigration," added Martin. "If immigration to the U.S. is not reduced soon, this undermining of the American middle class - arguably the economic and social backbone of this country - will inexorably continue," he added.

The study, "Rising Immigration Leads to the Declining Share of Middle-Income Households and Greater Income Equality," notes that California, home to the most legal and illegal immigrants, displays the greatest income inequality. California experienced an increase of about 710,000 low-income households between 1990 and 2000, with other large increases in poor households taking place in Florida, Texas and New York. Every top immigrant receiving state is experiencing a decline in the middle class at an accelerated rate, while states with lower levels of immigration are less affected.

Martin's research shows that the link between rising immigration and the declining middle class can be seen not only among the states but even more so when the focus is on the nation's metropolitan areas. The greatest increases in low income families occurred in high immigrant settlement metropolitan areas such as Miami, Los Angeles-Long Beach, San Jose, New York and San Francisco.

"The decline in the American middle class as a share of the population will rapidly accelerate if this country enacts a massive amnesty/guestworker program," said Martin. "The influx of additional huge numbers of foreign workers, combined with the existing impact of mass legal and illegal immigration, will further devastate the middle class and drive down wages and working conditions for America's working class families," he noted.

About 11.7 million immigrants are living in the United States illegally, a population that has not varied much over the last three years but may recently be increasing again, according to new estimates published Monday by the Pew Research Center Hispanic Trends Project.

The Republican Demonization of Refugee Children Shames America

The degree of heartlessness exhibited by Americans – by Republicans in particular – beggars belief. Many of these children are victims of the drug war America is funding, and refuses to end. A drug war those same conservatives support. But then, Republicans want babies to be born without caring what happens to them afterward.

In the end though, you have to wonder how different the Republican reaction would be if these were bus loads of blond-haired and blue-eyed Northern European kids who spoke English. My guess is they’d be volunteering their homes, and serial pedophile Ted Nugent and Duck Dynasty’s Bible-totin’ Phil Robertson would probably not be alone in offering to take the 15-year-old girls into their own homes.

In 1965, Teddy Kennedy and Lyndon Baines Johnson slipped an immigration bill through Congress that jumped immigration from 175,000 immigrants annually to 1.100,000 each year — a sudden, six-fold increase.
The Hart-Cellar Act of 1965 was slipped through through congress by LBJ and Ted Kennedy?

Fully 85% of self-described middle-class adults say it is more difficult now than it was a decade ago for middle-class people to maintain their standard of living. Of those who feel this way, 62% say “a lot” of the blame lies with Congress, while 54% say the same about banks and financial institutions, 47% about large corporations, 44% about the Bush administration, 39% about foreign competition and 34% about the Obama administration.

Study estimates that illegal immigrants paid $11.2B in taxes last year, unlike GE, which paid zero

New York is fourth in the country in tax revenue -$662.4 million - from households headed by undocumented immigrants, after California, Texas and Florida.

"These figures should be kept in mind as politicians and commentators continue with the seemingly endless debate over what to do with unauthorized immigrants already living in the United States," ITEP wisely advises.

"[These] immigrants - and their family members - are adding value to the U.S. economy; not only as taxpayers, but as workers, consumers and entrepreneurs as well."

Enough with those people - and they are many - who think they are the only ones paying taxes, and who accuse the undocumented of being "leeches" who contribute nothing. How about redirecting their fury to the real leeches, those with enough means and political clout to exploit every single loophole in our tax laws not to pay their fair share?

Actually, it's not. The truly needy are often turned away because they don't qualify under government requirements for assistance while others find ways to manipulate the system.

But that would mean risking losing Democratic votes.
Wouldn't it, Homer? Because votes are all that matter to Democrats at any cost.
Gotta work again today. Later.
Actually it is Carol. What's your evidence to back up tour claim that the truly needy are being turned away while people with "fancy cars" are getting food stamps? You don't have any. There are some who try to game the system but the rate of fraud in SNAP and TANF is less than 1%.
By the way Carol these programs are administered by the state, so if you have issues take it up with your Republican Governor and legislature.
