The problem with taking time off from Topix is I don't know what was discussed without playing catch-up.
Hopefully Obama's success in getting Credit Suisse to plead guilty to helping Americans cheat on their taxes was not ignored. Although the $2.6 billion penalty is a drop in the bucket it is still a successful prosecution..."the first global bank in a decade to admit to a crime in a U.S. courtroom."
"The plea also signals a tougher posture by the Justice Department, which has faced criticism that it avoided pursuing large banks after the 2008 financial crisis because of the potential economic fallout. The firm said the deal will cut second-quarter earnings by 1.6 billion francs ($1.79 billion).
“This case shows that no financial institution, no matter its size or global reach, is above the law,” Attorney General Eric Holder said during a press conference. He said “a company’s profitability or market share can never and will never be used as a shield from prosecution or penalty. And this action should put that misguided notion definitively to rest.”
The bank will pay $1.8 billion to the U.S., which includes almost $670 million in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service. The penalty also involves a $715 million payment to New York’s Department of Financial Services and $100 million to the Federal Reserve. The state banking regulator also called for the termination of certain employees and an independent monitor, the person said."
(Let's not forget that Credit Suisse was a top contributor to Romney's campaign)

Duke Energy's "Lawless Culture" sued by shareholders upset over Coal Ash (or loss of profits).
"Duke Energy Corp.(DUK) shareholders accused the board of exposing the company to billions of dollars in liability by failing to clean up coal-ash ponds in North Carolina, setting up another legal challenge for the largest U.S. utility owner after a February spill in the state.
Company officials have known for years that coal-ash ponds were seeping toxic chemicals into soil and rivers, shareholders Edward Tansey and the Police Retirement System of St. Louis said in a complaint made public today in Delaware Chancery Court in Wilmington.
“The board was well aware of the company’s longstanding violations, yet failed to take any meaningful action to prevent further harm,” the shareholders said.“Instead, the board caused or allowed Duke Energy to operate without proper permits, continuously pollute the environment, and fail to properly inspect the company’s coal ash ponds.”
About 39,000 tons of ash spilled from a pond at a shuttered coal-fired power plant near Eden, North Carolina, on Feb. 2. A federal grand jury is probing the state’s oversight of the company’s coal-ash ponds and state and company officials have been subpoenaed as part of the investigation.
The company said in April that the total tab for cleaning up its 33 coal-ash ponds in North Carolina may reach $10 billion and take as long as three decades...
The shareholders are asking the company to strengthen its internal controls to comply with federal and state regulations governing the storage and maintenance of coal-ash disposal. They also seek compliance with a March 6 order by a state court that the company eliminate sources of contamination at 14 coal plants in North Carolina, including the 33 coal-ash ponds."

Given the excellent performance of Duke Energy stock, how were the stockholders damaged?

I find it unsettling that Republicans are so eager to approve a foreign owned pipeline across land owned by U.S. citizens when Canadian leaders have said they won't approve the Northern Gateway across their land (a proposed $6 billion pipeline that would carry crude from Alberta’s oil sands to the Pacific Coast) unless the pipeline addresses aboriginal concerns about the risk of spills." When will Republican come to realize that Canada doesn't give a damn about America. The Keystone pipeline is merely a means to an end.

Hey STUPID!
If you're so smart, why are you in the situation you are in? If I was a betting man, my bet would be that you live in a little dump and don't have a pot to piss in thanks to all your brains & (lack of) success.
You, have no room to talk!
OH - but I forgot, liberals get to be arrogant & nasty hypocrite peons like you.
So says the little fat boy as he jumps up and down in his jump suit licking his lollipop. Your envy is very noticeable Bubba. Also your failure as a rational human being, don't blame others for your obvious misfortunes. PDupont is way above your intellectual level so farting in that mud hole while pretending you are taking a bubble bath is only fooling your own illiterate self. I suggest you go wash that single wide and accept your failures as a man, a person sadly lacking in good moral character, a patriot, and work on holding your breath much longer.

Think about it and look into it first -- What ill model does it come from, to call it democracy (when people in east Ukraine reject such dictation from rioting coup to make the false democracy but the fake election) from street rioters doing coup (supported and called by Obama, as what is the point as even elected or not elected is still the series of pattern for regime change started by Bush in Iraq as the Americanism clone) of elected to call interim government, while committing of Inferno Odessa to burn people to death, entering east Ukraine to engage in serious violences?
Is this the west's democracy way and where does it come from, as never seen anywhere before in definition from books while What ill model is US creation?
Define democracy first as it is not supposed to shuffle against people's wills while check the mental fitness of Obama at he same time in his acts of doing about Ukraine crisis about democracy and election calling -- Ask and take a look at the horrified torture done in Gitmo, Iraq, inside US and CIA prison first and ask for voting first to see how votes come out to be, as well as let people assess this way of Americanism democracy which is to coup the elected democracy for west Ukraine to do violences to repress people in order call another idiotic election and why don't you try out yourselves first?
Ukraine is not civil war as it is country to country war of east to west Ukraine since referendum was held for east Ukraine, whether others recognize or not, east Ukraine has become as a sovereign independent country under International Law and Universal rules, of free wills entitlement for free choices with no need for any ones' approval.

Agreed, where I live here is pretty much the bible belt. Most of the people here are good down to earth people and will do anything and are good neighbors. But every religion that I know has fanatics and those that are parasites in it. I see most of them as being used for profit. But in my opinion religions are geographic in nature. I still go to church from time to time with certain friends and family, I just lost all faith way back long ago. But I respect all that I know that are believers in my real life..I don't view this place as real.
