If most vets never set foot in one, what's the backlog controversy about? Not all vets have a retired status.
I believe the latest backlog was caused by the new wave of Agent Orange patients that became eligible in '09. One doesn't even have to show his ailment is agent orange connected. I doubt if many have a retirement status.
How's that for a story?
Not bad. I was actually involved in the agent agent orange legislation (Agent Orange Benefits Act) signed, finally, by Bill Clinton.

And also volunteered on a veterans benefits website prior to the DOD making individual service records available via the internet.

Those seeking help/disability $ for Diabetes Type II are creating a backlog as are those from Iraq I, II and Afghanistan who are "gaming" for full disability. You'd be amazed at the number of vets who never returned to full time civilian employment after leaving the military.

A VA doc in Gainesville told me that he thought his job would get easier after the WWII guys cycled through__not so__technology in combination with a rash of newly diagnosed illnesses has overwhelmed the system.

And it didn't help that BushCo fought the Second Gulf war off the books with no provision for future veterans health care.

if they are rude enough to bring up their personal religious cult beliefs in public, i will certainly point out the facts of reality if necessary. generally, it is best to just walk away as religious cult freaks tend to be the most violent, hateful people around. they will literally spit on you for just stating the truth when they were rude enough to bring their personal beliefs into the public venue.

Gubbymint can do all things and those crazy Christians....

'SEATTLE (AP)— Donald Douglass had a small spot on his forehead when he went to the Seattle Veterans Affairs hospital in 2011.

A biopsy confirmed it was cancerous. But it was four months before the hospital scheduled an appointment for him to have it removed — and by then, it had spread, wrapping around a facial nerve and eventually getting into his blood.

The delay proved fatal, his lawyer said — and it mirrors concerns being raised about the VA system nationally.'
