• WV-03: Here's an interesting angle to the debate over the Affordable Care Act that's playing out with particular salience in West Virginia—a state you might expect to be particularly hostile to Obamacare because, well, Obama. However, as the law's supporters point out, thanks to the efforts of the late Sen. Robert Byrd, the ACA contains a provision that makes it much easier for miners who contract black lung disease (or their widows) to win federal benefits. That means calling for Obamacare's total repeal, like Republican congressional candidate Evan Jenkins has, is much riskier position than you might expect.

Indeed, a recent House Majority PAC ad raised this very issue, leading Jenkins to demand the spot be taken off the air, because he insists he supports black lung benefits. However, as the West Virginia Gazette reports, Jenkins "has not explained what he would do to protect those benefits if the ACA were repealed." And despite the Jenkins campaign's claims that some stations had stopped airing the ad, station managers contacted by the Gazette say it's still on TV.

More than 6 million people have signed up for Obamacare, as a crush of people raced to get health insurance before the March 31 deadline. President Obama announced the milestone Thursday in a call with enrollment counselors and outreach volunteers, who are undertaking an intense marketing drive in the final days of open enrollment. There were more than 1.5 million visits to HealthCare.gov and more than 430,000 calls to the call centers on Wednesday.[...] It is short of the initial goal of 7 million, which was based on a projection by the Congressional Budget Office and adopted by the administration. But it shows considerable gains from the first month when just 106,000 people had signed up.

In a move sure to make conservative heads explode, California is going to send voter registration cards to everyone who has signed up for health insurance through Covered California, the state's health insurance exchange under Obamacare.
Under a deal announced Monday by several voting-rights groups, the state will send voter registration cards to nearly 3.8 million Californians who have applied for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.
The move will ensure that many residents can complete or update their registration in time for the June 3 primary election, representatives of the groups said, and bring the state into compliance with the National Voter Registration Act of 1993. The law requires that certain state offices provide clients with registration opportunities.

Why don't you quit your constant whining every freakin day.
You can't even admit that there is not typically applause after a press conference.
Pathetic.
You mistakenly believe my correcting your lies is somehow just covering for Obama. It is correcting your lies. If you don't want to read my posts, try making HONEST TRUTHFUL posts.
Since when did a press conference not take questions? You can't have a conference if only one side talks. It was a speech. He was waiting on the applause like he gets here from you asslickers!!!

Really dimwit? What were those sanctions and where's your evidence that Obama lift them?
Come back when you have something credible.
You want proof...I bet you can't handle proof...

Obama reversed two actions taken to punish Russia — the suspension of military contacts and work on a pending civilian nuclear agreement — shortly after taking office, as part of the "reset" that let Moscow off the hook.

That is, Obama immediately undid the sanctions that Bush had imposed.(In fact, Obama had opposed any and all actions against Russia at the time of their invasion of Georgia.)

Poor old flake, down to his last brain cell. If you idiots on the right paid one fifth the attention to the eight year reign of the two liars Bush-Cheney this nation would not be in the fix we are now. Two unfunded botched wars, not regulating Wall street. Absolutely the worst eight years in our history. You morons think it all can be cleaned up in a few years, with no help from a do nothing Congress That's because you idiots are basically obsessed, fanatical, racist without a clue other than being hate driven. PERIOD.

The bills haven't even been sent out yet in some cases. Here's what Gaba found, however. First, the percentage of enrollees who have paid up (the "paid rate") looks to be hovering at 81%-85%. The figure is murky because only 10 states actually provide a figure. That includes California, which bases its figure on what it hears from the insurance companies getting the payment and which says its paid rate is "more than 85%" as of March 15.

But Gaba observes that the 15% shortfall includes a lot of people who aren't sleazing out on their bills. It includes millions of people who enrolled between mid-February and mid-March and won't start coverage until April 1; there will be more who have enrolled since March 15 who won't start coverage until May 1. Their first bill might not arrive until as long as six weeks after their enrollment, which means many haven't paid because they haven't been billed yet or have been billed but the payment isn't yet due

Statistics from Vermont lend support for Gaba's analysis. The state reported last week that nearly 92% of enrollees whose policies started in January, February and March were paid up -- but only 19% of those with coverage starting in April and 16% of those starting in May. In Vermont, then, it appears that we're talking mostly not about "deadbeats" but prudent household budgeters with maybe a few procrastinators folded in. So the next time an ACA critic warns that a lot of people haven't paid for their exchange coverage, ask if he normally pays his bills six weeks in advance.
