6 Reasons Conservative Ron Unz Wants to Raise the Minimum Wage to $12 An Hour
The California Republican is sponsoring a 2014 ballot measure for a $12 statewide minimum wage—more than Obama has proposed.
The whole thing is it’s not really a traditional ideological issue. What you have right now is a system of massive welfare spending, over $250 billion a year in social welfare programs going to the working poor. In other words, people have jobs but they cannot survive on their paychecks. And those payments really amount to subsidies to low-wage employers. It’s a classic case of where businesses manage to privatize the benefits of their workers—they get the work—and socialize the costs. They’ve shifted the costs over to taxpayer and the government. And that is not something that free market economists like. It’s a classic problem inany kind of economic system.
So when you’re talking about a much higher minimum wage, which would automatically produce huge cuts in government social welfare spending, that’s the sort of thing that conservatives begin to like.
3. A two-income family would earn $50,000 a year.
4. Spending on welfare could fall by $40 billion.
Walmart, America’s largest low-wage employer, could cover a $12 minimum wage by a one-time price increase of 1.1 percent. The average Walmart shopper would pay an extra $12.50 per year. McDonald's and fast-food places would probabnly have to raise their prices by 8 or 9 percent, something like that. Agricultural products that are American-grown would go up by less than 2 percent on the grocery shelves. And those sorts of price increases are so small that they would be almost unnoticed in most cases by the consumer.
http://www.alternet.org/economy/ron-unz-makes...
One reason working Americans don't want to raise the minimum wage:
People making minimum wage aren't worth it, and we'll have to pay for it because, for companies to maintain their existing profit margin, they have to cut salaries elsewhere.

If you want to make more than minimum wage, make the choices that make you worth more than minimum wage to the economy.

You're a maroon.

Funny that Flack was praising Australias social security system; not knowing that Australia is one of the biggest welfare states. They have single payer universal healthcare paid through taxation. Most other countries do, like Canada. Everyone is covered.
A friends daughter married an Austrialian man, they moved there and had a baby, the government sent them a check for $5000.00!!
Everyone pays taxes in one form or another; property tax, sales tax etc. I just don't see the need for insurance companies to make a profit on healthcare. They should be eliminated.
I was talking about their private social security system. I didn't say anything aboutr their socialist medical programs. I can separate the two,can you?

"Human development begins after the union of male and female gametes or germ cells during a process known as fertilization (conception)."

"Fertilization is a sequence of events that begins with the contact of a sperm (spermatozoon) with a secondary oocyte (ovum) and ends with the fusion of their pronuclei (the haploid nuclei of the sperm and ovum) and the mingling of their chromosomes to form a new cell. This fertilized ovum, known as a zygote, is a large diploid cell that is the beginning, or primordium, of a human being."

The slate article was nothing but an opinion piece while Obama's 77 cents was derived from actual verifiable data through the U.S. Census. The 77 cents is merely a representation of the "median earnings" of "full-time female workers" and "full-time male workers". Nothing more. The Slate article tries to make it something it is not by tossing in race, education, pay bonuses and the "option of choice"--- "that women just don’t want to work the same way men do". It's hooey. Heck, that 91 cents you referenced was based on her premise that "largely male professions tend to be higher-paying."
The writer of the article, Hanna Rosin, is a Republcian Jew who describes herself as "a rich white lady". She is a bit nuts....having written an article against breast feeding and saying "good riddance" when children's author Jan Berenstain died because she didn't like the Berenstain Bears series of books.
However, she is not a "radical" Republican. Quite the contrary. She is capable of acknowledging when the Republican party is going down the wrong path. After the 2012 election, she said "if you do retrospective analysis of the election, you’d see that the rape question and the extremists of the Republican Party really seemed to do a lot of damage. All of them lost, basically, and turning off women in that way turned out to be mistake, in retrospect. At the time, you wouldn’t necessarily know which way it would go, but in retrospect it turned out to be quite a critical mistake."
Was that based on hourly wages? Or, daily wages? or, weekly wages? Or, monthly wages? Or, annual wages?

You haven't got a clue, do you?
You're spewing all this horsecrap, and you are so ignorant you aren't even aware you don't have a clue what you're talking about.

On this we agree. Camp Perry, matter of fact the entire Southern Lake Erie shoreline is an important migratory route for waterfowl and birds and should be off limits for "anything" that would impede those flight patterns or resting/feeding areas.

The Davis-Besse nuclear power station in that same vicinity has already displaced much of the wetlands necessary for migrating winged creatures.

It's not nice to mess with with mother nature.
