""The good news, I suppose, is that timely scrutiny has been applied to another environmental time bomb. Lord knows that's not the norm. As National Geographic reported this week, the "coal-cleansing chemical that spilled from Freedom Industries' storage tank into the Elk River last Thursday is only the latest insult in what for some has been a lifetime of industrial accidents that have poisoned groundwater, spewed toxic gas emissions, and caused fires, explosions, and other disasters that neither state nor federal regulators have been able to protect against."
As one woman in that National Geographic article put it, "Welcome to our world." From there, you start to think about West Virginia's troubled history of chemical accidents. And you start to remember its troubled history of corporate mining accidents. And you start to remember the widespread rural poverty. And you start to understand that somewhere, at the nexus of corporate power and the regulatory regime set up to provide public safety, there is something rotting -- and it's a rot fueled by a certain amount of corruption and incompetence. And you realize that the words, "life is returning to normal for the residents of West Virginia," actually conceal a multitude of sins.""
Meanwhile Freedom has closed down and has filed for bankruptcy. It might have been less expensive to repair or replace the storage tank but that would have required an intelligent decision and a few hundred grand__can't have that.

There are numerous chemical plants going West from Charleston__the entire area around Dunbar WVA smells like sht.

Bush? Obama's been here for FIVE years!! And, there never was a surplus. EVER! Your "surplus" was an economic projection based on the assumption that the .com boom would go on forever. One thing the boom proved, but Obama refuses to recognize, is that when the economy is allowed to perform, it usually does. When the economy rolls, revenue floods into government coffers, without tax increases. Obama can't have it both ways. He imposes government programs, deepening our national debt, which in turn depresses the economy. He cannot find it within himself to acquiesce to proven market principles. He hates capitalism, always has, and is convinced that the force of his personality alone will make it all work. So far, NOT good.
You're right about one thing, there has never been a surplus under Obama. He's still digging out from under Bush's recession and paying off debt Bush wrote blank checks for. We'll never know how all of Obama's programs to restore our economy would have worked because of an obstructionist Congress, e.g. jobs program. What we should be grateful for is an improving economy;low interest rates, low inflation, stock market soaring, new housing setting records, more jobs in private sector added every month for almost four years, etc.

Ok if he hates capitalism, then why did the ACA come in via those capitalist health insurers. Why not have medicare for all as is done with all other countries with health care. Why did he give loans to GM & co, if he hated capitalist he should have let them go bust. He should have let Wall St collapse, yet all those banks that got bailed.
Now the economy is growing again, as good as any in these hard economic times. The fact that your job may have gone to China is not Obama's fault its those darn capitalists again looking for easier ways to make profits. So look in the mirror before trying to direct blame.

The newly declassified documents revealed that President Obama was briefed on the Benghazi terrorist attack minutes after the assault began.

Gen. Carter Ham, then head of AFRICOM, the Defense Department combatant command with jurisdiction over Libya, told a House panel last year in classified testimony that he broke the news of the attack to then-Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Gen. Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Dempsey and Panetta "had the basic information as they headed across for the meeting at the White House."

When asked directly if Hamm had mentioned to either Dempsey or Panetta about a demonstration rather than a terrorist attack, Hamm replied that the command very quickly got to the point that it was not a demonstration but that "this was a terrorist attack."
Panetta told the Senate last February it was him who informed Obama about the attack.
"There was no question in my mind that this was a terrorist attack," Panetta told the Senate investigation committee.

So Gen. Dempsey and Panetta had "no question in their minds" that this was "a terrorist attack" within minutes after it began and did not tell the President of the United States this information????
Top officials in the State Department also knew immediately it was a terrorist attack but told Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, it wasn't?

You liberals are too gullible for your own good. Power grabbers want you to stay stupid to stay in power. Don't be stupid. It's not attractive.
A deep divide has emerged within the Republican Party over whether to waste Congress’s time investigating Benghazi talking points or repealing Obamacare, G.O.P. lawmakers confirmed today.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Virginia), sounded the first discordant note at a press briefing this morning, telling reporters,“The time for wasting day after day investigating Benghazi is over. The American people are counting us to waste our time repealing Obamacare yet again.”

Warning that “the American people don’t have an endless appetite for meaningless political theater,” Cantor added,“If we’re going to do something that’s purely symbolic, pointless, and detached from reality, I say it should be repealing Obamacare for the thirtieth or fortieth time.”

Rep. Cantor’s comments drew a strong rebuke from Darrell Issa (R-California), who has spearheaded the investigation into Benghazi:“Quite frankly, we have all the time in the world to blow repealing Obamacare. The moment to waste our time investigating Benghazi is now.” Noting that previous attempts to repeal Obamacare had cost the taxpayers approximately fifty million dollars, Issa said,“I think we’re entitled to spend at least that much, if not more, investigating Benghazi again and again and again.”

But even as the debate raged over whether Obamacare or Benghazi was more worthy of Congress’ wasted time, House Speaker John Boehner offered a third point of view:“Personally, I think the time we’re wasting on Benghazi and Obamacare could be better spent blocking progress on guns and immigration.”

Obama has still not provided his birth certificate, provided his college transcripts,or even his private school grade reports from Hawaii. Obama claimed to have been a regular at that church for 20 years, questions that have not been answered should have been answered. Obama made a point about living in Indonesia, not only in his books but in his campaign speeches,of course it it expected that there should be questions that that should be answered. Obama needs to take personal responsibility for his actions, words, and deeds. He only knows how to do two things, lie and blame others for his own failures.

Under your definition schools are socialism, so are roads and bridges, the military, library's, museums, memorials in fact every where you look around is socialism. Paid for by YOU & the Collective!

PRINCETON, NJ -- Three separate Gallup Polls conducted over the last month confirm that 7 in 10 Americans approve of the display of a Ten Commandments monument in a public area. These results come on the heels of Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore's suspension for defying a federal judge's order to remove a granite Ten Commandments monument from the rotunda of the Alabama Judicial Building in Montgomery.

The Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, and Lincoln Memorial In the Washington Monument not only are numerous Bible verses and religious acknowledgements carved on memorial blocks in the walls, including the phrases:“Holiness to the Lord”(Exodus 28:26, 30:30, Isaiah 23:18, Zechariah 14:20),“Search the Scriptures”(John 5:39),“The memory of the just is blessed”(Proverbs 10:7),“May Heaven to this Union continue its beneficence,” and “In God We Trust”, but the Latin inscription Laus Deo –“Praise be to God”– is engraved on the monument’s capstone. Of the five areas inside the Jefferson Memorial into which Jefferson’s words have been carved, four are God-centered, including Jefferson’s declaration that “God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever.” The Lincoln Memorial contains numerous acknowledgments of God and citations of Bible verses, including the declarations that “we here highly resolve that ... this nation under God ... shall not perish from the earth”; “The Almighty has His own purposes.‘Woe unto the world because of offenses; for it must needs be that offenses come, but woe to that man by whom the offense cometh’(Matthew 18:7)”; “as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said ‘the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether’(Psalms 19:9)”; “one day every valley shall be exalted and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh see it together”(Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech, based on Isaiah 40:4-5). In the Library of Congress, The Giant Bible of Mainz and The Gutenberg Bible are on prominent permanent display and etched on the walls are Bible verses, including “The light shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehendeth it not”(John 1:5); “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom and with all thy getting, get understanding”(Proverbs 4:7); “What doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God”(Micah 6:8); and “The heavens declare the Glory of God, and the firmament showeth His handiwork”(Psalm 19:1).
It's gonna be real hard trying to spin all of these religious symbols.
Anyone up to the challenge?
