This economic indicator has not been this bad since March 1978
how much of this is due to baby boomers retiring?

of course, all these numbers are bullshit, right? they've all been concocted by Obama himself and funneled through the labor secretary's desk, right?

The US unemployment rate fell to a five-year low of 6.7% in December as firms created 74,000 new jobs, latest figures show.

However, the number of jobs created was the lowest for three years and was well under half the number expected by analysts.

The US had bad weather in December, which may have stalled hiring plans.

The fall in the rate, now at its lowest since October 2008, in part reflects people leaving the labour force.

The government counts people as unemployed only if they say they are actively searching for work.

The leisure, manufacturing and services sectors added jobs in December, but construction cut 16,000 jobs, the biggest drop in the industry in 20 months.

<quoted text>well.....then what exactly does it mean?
Income inequality refers to the growing gap in income between the wealthy & the Middle Class.

The rich are getting richer as the middle class stagnates.

The growth of the income for the top 1% of earners has outpaced the growth of middle class income earners by a factor of 5 or more.

It can also refer to any income inequality between sexes, races, etc.

uh-hu.

"....“The draw,” the monthly welfare checks that supplement dependents’ earnings in the black-market Pepsi economy, is poison. It’s a potent enough poison to catch the attention even of such people as those who write for the New York Times. Nicholas Kristof, visiting nearby Jackson, Ky., last year, was shocked by parents who were taking their children out of literacy classes because the possibility of improved academic performance would threaten $700-a-month Social Security disability benefits, which increasingly are paid out for nebulous afflictions such as loosely defined learning disorders.“This is painful for a liberal to admit,” Kristof wrote,“but conservatives have a point when they suggest that America’s safety net can sometimes entangle people in a soul-crushing dependency.”..."

....There’s a profound, and profoundly depressing, truth here: some people just don’t have what it takes to be anything but poor:

"....“The government gives people checks, but nobody teaches them how to live,” says Teresa Barrett, a former high-school principal who now publishes the Owsley County newspaper.“You have people on the draw getting $3,000 a month, and they still can’t live. When I was at the school, we’d see kids come in from a long weekend just starved to death. But you’ll see those parents at the grocery store with their 15 cases of Pepsi, and that’s all they’ve got in the buggy — you know what they’re doing. Everybody knows, nobody does anything. And when you have that many people on the draw, that’s a big majority of voters.”...."

What do you do with people like that? Many of us — conservatives and liberals both — are outraged at the idea that there is nothing that can realistically be done to ease their estate, to deliver them from this kind of grinding suffering. But what if, for some people, it’s true? What if the reality of the situation defeats idealism? What do you do then? Can you do anything that matters? I’m not asking rhetorically; I mean it.

Read all of Williamson’s piece. It’s pretty sobering. What a challenging piece of reporting. Thanks to reader EK for sending it.

The economy gained a meager 74,000 jobs last month, the weakest result since early 2011, according to government data released Friday morning.

I agree. After seeing all the recent clips showing him bullying private citizens, he reminds me of a one of those buffoons out of the Sopranos.

The Washington Post hit the nail on the head:

"...Chris Christie is actually a bully. That doesn't mean he's not also a nice guy who cares deeply about his family and his constituents and his country. It doesn't mean he's not an unusually honest politician who's refreshingly free of cant and willing to question his party. There's a lot about Christie that's deeply appealing. But there's one big thing that's not: He's someone who uses his office to intimidate people and punish or humiliate perceived enemies."

Limbaugh Says GOP Are ‘Like A Bunch Of Wildebeests’ For Not Coming To Christie’s Defense
Yep, he pretty much called Republicans a bunch of cowards that run away frightened when one of their own is attacked. Now, he did make sure to mention RINOs and establishment Republicans. Basically, in Rush’s mind, the only true Republicans are crazy Tea Party ones, or ones that kiss the ring of King Limbaugh. Anyone that may have had a reasonable thought once or stated that Limbaugh was not the all and powerful voice of the GOP is, of course, a RINO.
After calling out Republicans for not rallying around Christie, El Rushbo was somehow able to blame Christie’s whole troubling saga on Obama. Of course, that is a Limbaugh specialty. Always find a way to mention and blame Obama for anything and everything. In a display of sheer and utter lunacy, Limbaugh pivoted Christie’s Bridgegate into Chicago politics, the IRS ‘scandal’, Obama’s foreign policy, Obamacare and the government shutdown. He tried to equate parks and museums being closed during the government shutdown to Bridgegate. Basically, he blamed Obama for the government shutdown and saying that he closed national parks and landmarks as political retribution, but on a much larger scale than Christie.
Typically, Limbaugh doesn’t make much sense, as he generally rambles on for a few hours looking for new ways to demonize liberals, women, minorities, Democrats and the President. But, on Thursday, he seemed even more incoherent than normal. It is still amazing to me that he has the most popular radio show in the nation. Even for the most ardent racist or woman-hater, what is the appeal of listening to Rush stammer and spit into his microphone for hours on end trying to reach a semi-coherent thought?

so you baggers must love Christie. your pied piper just said so.
only a mangy dog like you would fail to understand that there is a difference between defending someone against unjust attacks and supporting them for President...

the middle class is just fine. their standard of living is better off than it was decades ago. income is not the only measure of that.

if you want to talk just income...even today 20% of the US population can expect to become wealthy in their lives...from my experience, that matches pretty good with the percent of people willing to put forth a good effort to that goal...

I would attempt to explain the ratio of those coming into the labor force with those leaving due to retirement but with you it would be a waste of my time.
