I fear for the nation's future with the constant leakage of critical thinking bleeding profusely.
For example, a relative of mine who professes Christianity chose to sing a song at a family gathering. She chose John Lennon's "Imagine" and my jaw hit the floor. "Lady", I thought, "where in the hell is your head at?".
"Imagine there's no Heaven
it's easy if you try
No Hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
Nothing to kill or die for....."
These lyrics are right out of some Marxist Manifesto and she was thinking that she was singing a song of religious fervor.
Nice tune. Nice melody. Sick lyrics.
“I submit to you that if a man has not discovered something that he will die for, he isn't fit to live.”
---- Martin Luther King, Jr., Speech in Detroit, Michigan, circa 1963
"Living for only today" means you can forget about paying your mortgage. The Magic Negro will take care of me.
"Imagine no possessions" means that Obamaphones are free all over and Welfare cheese to all! What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine, MFK-er.
My point here is that critical thinking is a dying concept in America. If you are not PC, you deserve to die.
Proof: look what we elected into the White House.
pretty rational lyrics. especially since all the religious cults have been proven to be based on lies and myths...

sad to say that rational humans in this day and age actually still buy into that crap...especially when we know it isn't true...

I think it's important to keep one's interest inside of this life balanced against one's interest in the next.
Too many Christians(or any religious folks) have their heads so far into Heaven that they forget what they need to do here, first.
I agree. Unfortunately, many Christians often would rather not engage in disputes over the smaller picture to focus on the bigger one. And I have to remind myself the bigger picture is what really matters in the end especially having been so outspoken on this forum and criticized for it by non-Christians - even to the point of questioning my faith. But I have to believe fighting the good fight is an obligation if for no other reason than to prevent people from being harmed by an ideology that misleads them to have power and control over them and stifles their freedoms. It goes against everything most Christians stand for. It's an ideology that even threatens our freedoms to exercise our own faith.

In the past, government went about its own business and we went about ours. But that changed in 2008.

Even though I, too, know who is in control, it's also necessary to speak out in trying to right the wrongs here on earth. Jesus didn't mince words when calling those who misled his people and tried to control them "whitewashed hypocrites". I'm just following his example and believe fellow Christians should do the same.

If Christians stand idly by and allow bad things to happen, they aren't doing anyone any service. In fact, just the opposite.

(Sorry about the lengthy response. One of my many flaws - long-windedness.)

LOL. First of all, The Daily Mail is a tabloid. No difference between it and the National Enquirer. RawStory.com , on the otherhand, was a finalist in the 2008 Online Journalism awards in the "Investigative, Small Site" category.

That said, perhaps you should actually read an article before trashing it just because you think it differs from our narrow view of things,

The RawStory.com article went on to explain: c

"Arctic air is normally penned in at the roof of the world by a powerful circular wind called the polar vortex, said Dim Coumou, a senior scientist at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) near Berlin.

When the vortex weakens, the air starts heading southwards, bringing exceptional snow and chill to middle latitudes.

The weather shift is also helped by changes in a high altitude wind called the jet stream.

This convection, which usually encircles the northern hemisphere in a robust and predictable fashion, starts to zigzag, creating loops of extremely cold weather or unseasonably mild weather, depending on the location.

“We’ve seen a strong meandering of the jetstream, and the cold air associated with the polar vortex has been moving southwards, and in this case over the eastern parts of Canada and the United States, bringing this extreme cold weather,” said Coumou.

The phenomenon has occurred repeatedly in recent winters, he noted."

THEN, the article went on to explain:

"What drives the polar vortex is the difference in temperature between the Arctic and mid latitudes, said Coumou.

Once sharp, this differential has blurred in recent years as the Arctic — where temperatures are rising at about twice the global average — warms up, he said.

“We’ve seen this type of cold spell more often lately in recent winters, in Europe but also in the US,” Coumou said in a phone interview.

“The reason why we see these strong meanderings is still not fully settled, but it’s clear that the Arctic has been warming very rapidly. We have good data on this. Arctic temperatures have risen much more than other parts of the globe.”

Last month, European scientists reported that the volume of sea ice in November was around 50 percent greater compared with a year earlier, following a recovery in the Arctic summer.

Despite this bounceback, sea ice remains at near-record documented lows and its overall trend is one of retreat, they said.

Coumou cautioned that Arctic sea ice “is just one of the important factors” behind disruption of the polar vortex”.

“Other factors include snow cover, stratospheric warming events or other short-lived phenomena,” he said.

Other specialists said the link between warming and the spillover of Arctic air was still debated.

“There is no consensus,” said Francois Gourand, a forecaster at Meteo France, the French national meteorological agency.

“The melting of sea ice can have an impact on atmospheric circulation but these effects are complex and hard to pin down,” he said.

The overall trend of the sea ice is downwards, yet in Europe we can have mild winters sometimes, or cold winters — there doesn’t seem to be a clear link.”

You can wipe that egg off your face now.

You had no problem with Bammy's many lies in Dreams of My Father. Why is that?

Yes, Obama’s Bio Lies Constitute a Pattern

Never let it be said the New York Times is afraid to tackle an unflattering story about President Obama, even if it’s often a delayed reaction. The paper’s political blog The Caucus deigned to notice in 2012 that the new biography of the president by David Maraniss uncovered the fact that much of Dreams From My Father, the highly praised Barack Obama autobiography, is either fabricated or exaggerated.

The Times’s Michael Shear opines that having its author now sitting in the White House has brought Dreams more scrutiny than its author could have envisioned when he wrote it in 1995. But the problem with contemporary analyses of the questionable personal history in the book is not so much the peril associated with being a famous political author but whether the book provides PROOF OF A PATTERN OF FALSEHOODS AND DISTORTIONS ABOUT HIS PAST that has been one of the hallmarks of the president’s public career.

The answer to that question is contained near the bottom of the piece in which Shear lets drop that proof of such A PATTERN was already provided by his own newspaper last year.

Though the Times buried the story when it broke and then never followed up or editorialized on the scandal, it was their own reporter Janny Scott whose research on the life of the president’s mother Ann Dunham revealed that the oft-told story of her dying because of the failure of her health insurance company to pay for her cancer treatment was a flat out lie. But while Shear is right that the 2012 election did not turn on how Maraniss’s book is received, THE UNWILLINGNESS OF THE TIMES AND OTHER MAINSTREAM PUBLICATIONS TO CALL OUT OBAMA FOR WRITING FICTION AND CALLING IT AUTOBIOGRAPHY GIVES US A GOOD INDICATION OF HOW MUCH OF AN ADVANTAGE HAVING A QUIESCENT MEDIA IS FOR AN INCUMBENT PRESIDENT.

The fables Obama seems to have told about his alienation, his girlfriends and the rest of his over-intellectualized voyage of self-discovery actually pale in comparison to the whopper he told when running for election in 2008 that his mother died because she had been denied coverage and treatment of her disease. Scott revealed that in fact the expenses relating to her cancer had been paid by her insurance. Though she had a separate and totally unrelated dispute relating to disability coverage, Scott’s research proved that Obama’s statement during the 2008 presidential debate was fiction:

"For my mother to die of cancer at the age of 53 and have to spend the last months of her life in the hospital room arguing with insurance companies because they’re saying that this may be a pre-existing condition and they don’t have to pay her treatment, there’s something fundamentally wrong about that."

It bears repeating that the president knew this account was false because he served as his mother’s attorney in all her dealings with the insurance company.

When the Times ran that story (on page 14 rather than on the front page), the White House chose not to deny the truth of Scott’s reporting. But that didn’t stop the Obama campaign from refloating the same falsehoods about Ms. Dunham having perished for lack of insurance coverage in an autobiographical campaign film narrated by Tom Hanks.

Not only has the president never apologized for lying to the American people about his mother’s plight, HE RIGHTLY ASSUMED THAT EVEN THOUGH THE TRUTH WAS UNCOVERED BY THE NEW YORK TIMES, NEITHER THAT PAPER NOR THE REST OF THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA WOULD FOLLOW UP ON IT as they undoubtedly would had a Republican ever tried to sell the voters such a transparent whopper.

Gets into Global Warming

1974

They told us that:

"Early in the 70s a series of adverse climatic weather anomalies occurred...

The worlds snow and ice cover had increased by 10 to 15 percent...

In the eastern Canadian area of the arctic Greenland , below normal temperatures were recorded for 19 months. Nothing like this had happened in the last 100 years."
