Radel, R-Fort Myers, pleaded guilty Wednesday to possession of cocaine after he allegedly bought the drug from an undercover officer. In D.C. that’s a misdemeanor with a maximum of 180 days in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.

With a misdemeanor conviction he has a chance of holding onto his seat.

A D.C. judge sentenced Radel to one year of supervised probation, after which the court could dismiss the case without a conviction. D.C. defense attorney Bruce M. Cooper said all first-time drug offenders have that option.

It would be a third-degree felony in Florida, punishable by up to five years in prison and/or $5,000.

While he might have been able to get a probationary sentence in Florida, he would have been confined to the state, probably with a leg bracelet, paid a big fine and had a felony record.

There would be no way that the Congressman who voted for drug tests for anyone getting Food Stamps could have held on to office.

Perhaps you ringers can explain this, and why Obama wanted to improve healthcare across the board.
"Americans are living longer but with greater disease burdens as U.S. health trails behind that of populations in other wealthy nations, according to a studyExternal Link published last week in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).
While the combined life expectancy for both sexes increased from 75.2 years in 1990 to 78.2 years in 2010, the United States fell in its population health rankings compared to 33 other Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries. The study found that the U.S. rank decreased across key health measures, including:
From 18th to 27th for age-standardized death rate.
From 23rd to 28th for age-standardized years of life lost.
From 5th to 6th for age-standardized years lived with disability.
From 20th to 27th for life expectancy at birth.
From 14th to 26th for healthy life expectancy.
In 2010, diseases and injuries with the largest number of years of life lost as a result of premature death were ischemic heart disease, lung cancer, stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and road injury."
You may not like seeing the FACTS here but you can't hide from the truth. An unhealthy population costs a LOT LOT more than any freakng Obamacare it's a lesson that is going to be learnt the hard way for you ringers..
http://www.ama-assn.org/ams/pub/amawire/2013-...
The FACTS are Americans are the sickest and most medicated people in the world. Even if the website works, O'bamacare will fail because just like every other system of medicine before it, it's based on disease management rather than nutritional prevention. No nation can sustainably afford to pay for medical crisis management of preventable disease, regardless of who foots the bill. This country is being eaten from the inside out by sickness caused by your western 'so called medicine'. Stupid fools.

So go figure, this is what you are defending that you want to KEEP when ACA offers a far better solution for all. It's no good having the highest paid doctors in the world only doing breast enlargements when they could be treating cancer. That's what you are defending and the highest insurance premiums & the highest medicine costs. What is wrong with this picture!
Cancer is being cured in other countries--and yet the United States only viable treatments are radiation and chemotherapy. Chemotherapy drugs are the most toxic substances ever put deliberately into the human body. They are known poisons, they are designed poisons. And radiation, hey let's do both at the same time. DEMOCRATS are cutting money for SCHOOLS! They are HURTING our CHILDREN! It's not for "the kids"! IT'S FOR SOCIALISM...

"MERIDEN — School Superintendent Mark D. Benigni told Congress last week that the Affordable Care Act could lead to program and staff cuts if it is not changed.

Benigni testified Thursday for the 41-member U.S. House of Representatives Education and Workforce Committee.

“At a time when student needs are increasing, budgets are shrinking and state and federal mandates escalating, we cannot effectively sustain these significant health care expenses,” Benigni told the panel.“This will cause us to cut staff, reduce programs, minimize current healthcare plans, cut employee hours, and consider outsourcing current services. It will be our students who lose out.”

In the years after Jesse Webster dropped out of school in ninth grade to help his mother pay the bills in the south side of Chicago, he became involved in a cocaine deal that was aborted before drugs ever changed hands. After hearing he was wanted for questioning, he turned himself in, and was convicted of possession, conspiracy, and filing false tax returns, solely on the basis of testimony by his co-defendants. He declined to become an informant in exchange for a plea deal, worried that it would put his family members at risk.

While his co-defendants received less than five years each for cooperating with the government, Webster, who had no criminal record, was sentenced to life without parole by a judge who said the punishment was too high, but whose hands were tied by a mandatory minimum sentence. Webster has since completed his GED, taught himself skills, and counseled other inmates. But no matter what he does, life without parole means no chance to ever see life outside of prison.

Webster and Jackson are not anomalies. Some 3,278 people are serving life sentences with no hope for parole for non-violent offenses, mostly drugs, according to a new report by the American Civil Liberties Union. Those serving life without parole have been handed these sentences for drug offenses as minimal as possession of a crack pipe, a trace amount of cocaine in clothes pockets that invisible to the naked eye, and large quantities of marijuana. Other nonviolent offenses responsible for LWOP punishment include possession of stolen wrenches, stealing tools from the back of a truck, and shoplifting a computer from a Walmart.

Life without parole (LWOP) is the harshest U.S. sentence short of execution. This summer, the European Court of Human Rights ruled the punishment inhuman and degrading. It means a prisoner receives no reward for rehabilitation; never has a chance of seeing life outside of prison walls. The ACLU called it a “living death.”
