Don't look now, but there's another log in your eye. Please remove it before focusing on the splinter in mine.
We all want to help the poor. You seem to think you somehow have a monopoly on compassion just because you're a liberal and everything that entails.
As a liberal, you defend abortion on demand, voted for a man who has no qualms about denying a born alive botched abortion baby medical care, and supports laziness and slothfulness as a lifestyle at hardworking taxpayers' expense.
Being a conservative who is against abortion, who didn't vote for a man who has such a callousness towards life and the most vulnerable, and who believes human dignity trumps dependency on others does not make my any less of a Christian than you.
Pride goes before a fall. Watch your step.
Well Carol, you have a whole forest in both your eyes. Liberals are more capable of examining the complexities of an issue like abortion. We ask why women choose to terminate a pregnancy and what we can do to make this option unnecessary. We favor access to contraception, comprehensive sex education in schools and strengthening the social safety net to ease the economic burdens of having a child. Liberals like Laura Delauro have proposed legislation like Reducing the Need for Abortion and Supporting Parents Act which didn't have even a single Republican cosponsor. You and your ilk on the other hand just want to outlaw abortion which will force women to seek out back alley butchers like Kermit Gosnell. Before Roe v Wade made terminating a pregnancy legal and allowed women a safe medical option this happened all too frequently and women died as a result.
Your accusation that Obama as a state senator voted against protections for babies born alive due to botched abortions is a lie. There were already laws in place to cover that eventuality.. Illinois compiled statute 720 ILCS 510/6 states that physicians performing abortions when the fetus is viable must use the procedure most likely to preserve the fetus’ life; must be attended by another physician who can care for a born-alive infant; and must "exercise the same degree of professional skill, care and diligence to preserve the life and health of the child as would be required of a physician providing immediate medical care to a child born alive in the course of a pregnancy termination which was not an abortion." Failure to do any of the above is considered a felony. The legislation he voted against contained language that was intended to intimidate physicians performing what whether you like it or not is a legal and necessary procedure.
Taking care of the most vulnerable in our society doesn't equate to encouraging laziness you ignorant twit. You keep forgetting that the majority of those who receive government help are the working poor, families with children and those with disabilities. The only reason someone like you would give a dime to a poor person is so you can feel all smug and superior. As for liberals, and make no mistake about it Jesus was the ultimate liberal, we look to the words of the Gospels as in Matthew 25;
‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ It makes no difference to us whether we do this directly as most of us do, or through our taxes. You just don't like not getting to pick and choose who to favor with your largess.
Don't talk to me about pride Carol, you're the one who claims that you'll just fly through the Gates to the Kingdom. That's presumption which goes hand in hand with the sin of pride.

They were so afraid Republicans might have some kind of advantage if they told the truth, they deliberately made the decision to lie instead.
They've made their bed but instead of lying in it, many are saying "now it's time we all sat down together to fix it"...

Really nitwit? How many lives were ruined before the ACA was enacted? How many patients who were undergoing long term chemotherapy or dialysis had their lives ruined or just terminated because their coverage was cutoff due to some arbitrary lifetime cap?

The Gettysburg Address
Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
November 19, 1863
On June 1, 1865, Senator Charles Sumner referred to the most famous speech ever given by President Abraham Lincoln. In his eulogy on the slain president, he called the Gettysburg Address a "monumental act." He said Lincoln was mistaken that "the world will little note, nor long remember what we say here." Rather, the Bostonian remarked, "The world noted at once what he said, and will never cease to remember it. The battle itself was less important than the speech."

There are five known copies of the speech in Lincoln's handwriting, each with a slightly different text, and named for the people who first received them: Nicolay, Hay, Everett, Bancroft and Bliss. Two copies apparently were written before delivering the speech; the remaining ones were produced months later for soldier benefit events. Despite widely-circulated stories to the contrary, the president did not dash off a copy aboard a train to Gettysburg. Lincoln carefully prepared his major speeches in advance; his steady, even script in every manuscript is consistent with a firm writing surface, not the notoriously bumpy Civil War-era trains. Additional versions of the speech appeared in newspapers of the era, feeding modern-day confusion about the authoritative text.

Nicolay Copy

Named for John G. Nicolay, President Lincoln's personal secretary, this is considered the "first draft" of the speech, begun in Washington on White house stationery. The second page is writen on different paper stock, indicating it was finished in Gettysburg before the cemetery dedication began. Lincoln gave this draft to Nicolay, who went to Gettysburg with Lincoln and witnessed the speech. The Library of Congress owns this manuscript.

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth, upon this continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that “all men are created equal.”

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived, and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle field of that war. We come to dedicate a portion of it, as a final resting place for those who died here, that the nation might live. This we may, in all propriety do.

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate – we can not consecrate – we can not hallow, this ground – The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have hallowed it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here; while it can never forget what they did here.

It is rather for us, the living, we here be dedicated to the great task remaining before us – that, from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they here, gave the last full measure of devotion – that we here highly resolve these dead shall not have died in vain; that the nation, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

As written on the teleprompter for Obama:

Five years ago the Communist Party USA brought forth, upon this government of the people, the last battle of the American communist rebellion, conceived in Marxism, and dedicated to the proposition that “all men are created equal”, with the exception of the ruling elite, unions, and associated cronies.

Now we are engaged in the last battle, testing whether this nation, or any nation with limited government, and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met in the hidden corridors of government. We come to take control of it, as a final assault on individual freedom begins, that the nation might die and be replaced by a Marxist communist totalitarian dictatorship. This we may, in all propriety do.

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate – we can not consecrate – we can not hallow, these corridors – The Democrat communists, living and dead, who sabotaged the limited government here, have hallowed it, in preparation for us to take our place in history as conquerers. The world will forever note, and long remember what we say here; because saying is the same as doing.

It is rather for us, the current threat to limited government, we here be dedicated to the great task remaining before us – that, from these honored past communist saboteurs we take increased devotion to that cause for which they here, gave the last full measure of devotion – that we here highly resolve these communists that preceeded us shall not have lied in vain; that the nation, shall have a new birth of elite rulers, and that government over the people, ruling the people, lying to the people, shall not perish from the earth.

PDupont, do you think big government replaces our need for God to supply all our needs? Or that Jesus said give everything to Cesar so the government can do God's work for us? Or that God condones creating a life just to kill it and sexual misconduct is Christ-like?
Jesus preached prosperity was the reward for giving - and the more you give, the more you receive.
Jesus was not referring to Cesar forcibly taking money from the people so they could receive the individual reward of prosperity.
Neither did Jesus say love Cesar and the Roman government with all your heart, with all our mind and with all our soul.
That's where you get a bit confused in my opinion.
As brothers and sisters in Christ, we are to lift each other up, not tear each other down because of liberal politics.
Just sayin'...out of love, mind you.
No Carol, Jesus did not preach prosperity, that's a total perversion of his message. If riches were a reasonable goal for the godly, Jesus would have pursued it. But He did not, preferring instead to have no place to lay His head (Matthew 8:20) and teaching His disciples to do the same. It should also be remembered that the only disciple concerned with wealth was Judas. he also stated in Luke 12:15 “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” Also in Matthew 6:19; “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves zbreak in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Paul in 1 Timothy 6:5 warns; and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain.

So, what you're saying is, health care was dependent on some "cap" controlling money.
I've got a question for you.

Where will the money come from to pay for Obama's government?

Nobody on Earth has been able to answer that question. How about you be the first. If you can't answer that question, then there will still be that "cap" and everything that you complain about will continue to happen. The only difference will be, those making the decisions of who lives and who dies will be incompetent and grossly inefficient government appointees, who have been proved beyond any shadow of a doubt to be criminally corrupt.

Well? Where will the money come from to pay for Obama's government?
