On both the NSA saga and the Syrian crisis, Putin played chess while Obama played checkers with himself – and lost.

Every year, Forbes magazine publishes its list of the heads of state, financial titans and business moguls who “truly rule the world.” Predictably, a sitting US president – the commander-in-chief of the most lethal armada in the history of the world – usually gets the top spot.

Not in 2010 though, when Barack Obama was overtaken by then Chinese President Hu Jintao in the aftermath of the Wall Street-provoked financial crisis. And not in 2013, when the winner is Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Not by accident, China and Russia are the most influential among the BRICS group of emerging powers. The US corporate media’s rankings such as Time’s Person of The Year may be irrelevant, and usually extremely provincial. But as a PR coup, American recognition of Putin’s soft power is priceless, even coming after de facto recognition by the overwhelming majority of the real ‘international community’: the developing world.

To its credit, Forbes stresses how “anyone watching this year's chess match over Syria and the National Security Agency leaks has a clear idea of the shifting individual power dynamics."

<quoted text>More brainless gibberish. You left teaching in the early 1990's after spending less than a decade in a semi rural Florida district yet go on as though you were the commissioner of education. NCLB came on board in 2001, long after you left the profession__I guess that disqualifies your opinion?
I suspect your attitude in combination with your mouth made you very unpopular in the system and you walked away with a chip on your shoulder which you still carry.
This post is just for Realtime. The rest of you can feel free not to read it.

Just got tired of the politics and the political correctness in the public schools. Too many administrators didn't want to be bothered with anything except keeping their seat warm until retirement. Teachers were dumped on and expected to juggle all expectations placed on them inside and outside of their classroom without any help from anyone. An experienced teacher once voiced she needed a secretary just to sort her mail every morning and handle all the promotions and deadlines placed on her by the office. That, on top of lesson plans, preparation for lessons and projects, endless grading, teaching subject material, accountability for all discipline problems in the classroom, the lack of a safety net and support from administrators and parents along with a mutual feeling of general frustration and relying on coping mechanisms to deal with the stress and demands among fellow colleagues led to my own disillusionment.

Teachers don't clock out and go home and relax. Most teachers take their work home to grade papers or prepare for lessons requiring a lot of preparation beforehand.

I knew many respected and tenured teachers who voiced their dissatisfaction and were waiting for the opportunity to get out.

Mainly, though, I had a child late in life and didn't want to miss the opportunity to raise her. Which also led to a kind of resentment having to work and contend with the above.

Even though I was considered a good teacher and was lucky enough to be supported by most of my students' parents and truly did love the art of teaching, the bad far outweighed the good. The blind were leading the blind and teachers were left to grope around in the maze to find their own way and somehow remain above the fray.

The underlying purpose of educating students and providing a good learning environment with the help and backbone of supervisors and administrators who were supposed to care about the students and had an obligation to ensure their well-being and provide a support system just wasn't there. Many of them cared more about not making waves, not getting sued, job perks and not being bothered.

That's why I left. And because I had a child to raise, I never looked back.

Perhaps the school administrators in your immediate family were the exception. There were exceptions. Administrators actually used to be a vital part of the success in education. Just not anymore.

The Democrats are controlled by Marxist and Islamists, both lethal enemies of the United States and dedicated to the destruction of the constitutional republic. Neither Marxists nor Islamists have ever voluntarily given up any position of power and authority they managed to achieve. This has never happened in history. And, both Marxists and Islamists are well aware of that sole vulnerable position of Americans.
Anyone care to guess what the next chapter in American history will read like?
Next Chapter: Healthcare costs are driven down by ACA,
Space exploration, new technological advances, Walmart continues takeover of America as more Mom and Pop store disappear, Fist female president(Hillary Clinton), Libertarian Party same level of membership as Republican Party and newly formed Tea Bagging Party, all faiths still allowed to practice their religion, oil dependencies shrinks as new technology is perfected...

I guess that is maybe more than on chapter.

Randi Rhodes is going off the air
bysofa turfFollow

I heard today that Randi Rhodes, noted progressive radio talk show talent, will be going off the air soon.
I know that many here will have never heard of her, others have a passing aquaintence, and others hold a strong dislike. But I know also that there must be others here who feel as I do that the voice of Randi Rhodes is a vital force of the progressive movement.
Randi Rhodes is going away, that is all I wanted to say.

Lefty or Moderate talk shows/radio will always have a limited following as these people can think for themselves.

Seriously what person in their right mind would want to listen to Rush or Hannity?
