CBS News) CBS News has learned more than two million Americans have been told they cannot renew their current insurance policies -- more than triple the number of people said to be buying insurance under the new Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare.

There have been estimates about hundreds of thousands of people losing coverage, CBS News' Jan Crawford reported on "CBS This Morning." CBS News has reached out to insurance companies across the country to determine some of the real numbers -- and this is just the tip of the iceberg, Crawford said. The people who are opening the letters are shocked to learn they can't keep their insurance policies despite President Obama's assurances to the contrary.

The White House is on the defensive trying to explain it, after Mr. Obama repeatedly said, "If you like your doctor or health care plan, you can keep it."

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said, "What the president said and what everybody said all along is that there are going to be changes brought about by the Affordable Care Act to create minimum standards of coverage."

It's an unexpected reality of Obamacare being told through anecdotes in local papers and on social media. But the hard numbers reveal the evidence is far more than anecdotal. CBS News has confirmed with insurance companies across the country that more than two million people are getting notices they no longer can keep their existing plans. In California, there are 279,000; in Michigan, 140,000; Florida, 300,000; and in New Jersey, 800,000. And those numbers are certain to go even higher. Some companies who tell CBS News they've sent letters won't say how many.

Industry experts like Larry Levitt, of the Kaiser Family Foundation, say the insurance companies have no choice. "What we're seeing now is reality coming into play," he said.

Obamacare forces them to drop many of their plans that don't meet the law's 10 minimum standards, including maternity care, emergency visits, mental health treatment and even pediatric dental care.

That means consumers have to sign on to new plans even if they don't want or need the more generous coverage. Industry experts say about half the people getting the letters will pay more -- and half will pay less, thanks to taxpayer subsidies. Levitt said, "The winners outnumber the losers here, but because of all the website problems, it's hard to find out who the winners are because they don't even know it themselves."

And for the people who've gotten the letters, the broken website is a real problem, Crawford added on "CTM." They don't know what to do. They don't know if they get subsidies. And then there are others getting the letters who have very good insurance but are being told they can't keep it. Industry experts CBS News talked to say for everyone, the best bet is to just call their insurance companies to get the information.

CONEY ISLAND, N.Y. With nothing but a small refrigerator, a shelf of canned food, and a plastic table with chairs, Charlene Davis' temporary apartment is a shell of what it used to be.

"Everyday is a struggle. To see the look on my daughters face when she comes in, you know it hurts," Davis said.

The 54-year-old is one of almost 13,000 low-income renters in Coney Island who applied for aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, after Superstorm Sandy hit one year ago.

Davis is in a wheelchair and needs oxygen for a respiratory illness.
She asked FEMA to help her re-locate from her flood-damaged home, but because of her disability it was difficult to find a place that fit her needs.

The mother of four realized quickly that surviving the hurricane was just the beginning of a very long battle ahead.

Davis, and her two children that live with her, had only 15 minutes before it became clear that Sandy was going to flood their home.

"I was just sitting there watching television with my family paying really no mind and all of the sudden it just hit out of no where," she said.

The hurricane's uninvited force engulfed Davis' first floor with almost five feet of water.

Her children spent an hour pressed against the front door, trying to stop the water from coming in.

Sandy's power against theirs was so strong that it left body imprints on the door.

Mother nature was winning. Davis' kids rushed her out of her wheelchair and carried her upstairs as the water started rise.

"You just had to get up. Get out of the way, and let Sandy take over," Davis said.

They spent days with no electricity, candles and a few snacks on their second floor.

All they could do was wait for the water to recede.

When Davis went downstairs the devastation was unimaginable.

"We had just gotten furniture and I just recently made the last payment. All of it gone, " Davis said.

It took her eight months to relocate.

During that time she was living with mold, which made her respiratory problems worse.

After not having any luck with FEMA, Davis picked up the phone and started calling different organizations.

Local housing officials eventually helped her get into the temporary apartment she is living in now.

She is still waiting for her old place to be repaired, which might not happen until late December.

Davis believes when it comes to Coney Island, people don't think about the poor residents living a few blocks away from the rides and boardwalk.

And Deborah Carter agrees. She is around the corner from Davis and is the resident leader of the Gravesend public housing developments

"We were the spot that wasn't looked at [when it came to Sandy recovery]," said Carter.

Residents were angry that it took so long for aid to reach them, and Carter says there is still so much that needs to be done.

"We still have people that [are] in need. In need of furniture, clothing. A lot of people lost a lot of things," Carter said.

While Coney Island's Luna Park re-opened just five months after the storm, Carter and Davis both feel that when it comes to aid, their area should not be forgotten.

"They [people] are focusing on the rides and how Coney Island is back and coming. There are people who are still struggling," Davis said.

Even with Davis' long battle and loss she has gained one thing -- courage.

"No matter how many times someone tells you, no, no, no, don't give up .... whatever you got to do, fight for what it is that you want. Because when you are right, you should fight," Davis said.

Sure Carol, and big insurance have never overruled a doctors decision and denied needed treatment have they? let's take a look at the case of Nataline Sarkisyan. She was diagnosed with leukemia at age 14. After two years of treatment, the cancer went into remission. But in summer 2007 it came back and doctors said Nataline needed a bone-marrow transplant. Her only sibling, 21-year-old Peter, was a match, and he donated his bone marrow the day before Thanksgiving.
But Natalie developed a complication and, because her liver was failing, doctors recommended a transplant, saying she had a 65 percent chance of surviving.
CIGNA denied the transplant, telling doctors in a memo the procedure was "experimental, investigational and unproven services."
CIGNA eventually reversed its decision after public outcry but it was too late as her condition had worsened to the point that she died hours after the surgery. If that young woman had received her surgery in a timely manner then she might very well be alive today.
Let's take the case of Crystal Lee Sutton who was the inspiration for the film Norma Rae. Several years ago, Sutton was diagnosed with meningioma, a type of cancer of the nervous system. While such cancers are typically slow-growing, Sutton's was not -- and she went two months without potentially life-saving medication because her insurance wouldn't cover it initially. Though Sutton eventually received the medication, the cancer had already taken hold. She passed away in a Burlington, N.C. hospice.
Contrary to Dr. Carson's lies the ACA makes these kind of abuses less likely to occur.
Nixon first came up with the idea of health care reform similar to Obamacare but without big government intrusion.

Republicans were on board. Led by Ted Kennedy, Democrats soundly rejected it. Kennedy later voiced his regret.

Everyone wants health care reform. Why did Democrats reject it back in 1974? Because liberals want big government to be our health care provider.

Damage Accumulating after US Loses Trust over Spying Activities
The White House is at a loss as it not only depended on espionage in formulating its policies, but also nobody can trust its word anymore, former US Senate foreign policy analyst James Petras told RT.

The latest news on monitoring of phone calls in France, and probably German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s own cellphone, brought anger from the French and German governments this week. Top European politicians voiced a ‘lack of trust’ towards US on the summit in Brussels on Friday.

RT: Does this come as a surprise to you that such a large number of world leaders were allegedly being monitored by the US?

James Petras: No, it doesn’t surprise me. I think the US has been doing this for quite a while and we’ve been hearing stories about it, the testimony. What I think is very revealing is the fact that the NSA got many of these phone calls, phone numbers and fax numbers and other confidential material from the White House as revealed in the memo. It was supposed to turn over the roll access, rolodex, listenings of confidential phone numbers from the Pentagon estate department and the White House.

So everybody was privy to the NSA tapping into and listening to the communications by top leaders. Moreover we have to raise the question of how did the US government act on the information they got how did they take that decisions, how did they intervene in politics at UN conferences and EU meetings.

Is OBAMA the GREATEST FOR BRINGING DOWN THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT

Sux to be you!
But don't worry__Bill O'Reilly claims it's no big deal, everyone does it.
Actually, you misunderstood. It wasn't Bill O'Reilly who claimed it was no big deal. It was his guest, Lt. Col. Ralph Peters, who said it was no big deal.

But Lt. Col. Ralph Peters' opinion is well-respected and holds a lot of clout on the O'Reilly Factor as a regular contributor.

Bill O'Reilly was just fair and balanced in looking out for the folks. That's his job.

CBS NEWS published an article yesterday stating that the Obama administration knew more than 40% to 67% in the individual market would not be able to keep their plans even if they liked them.

Obama promised us repeatedly that if we liked our health plan, we could keep our health plan. He once emphasized it by adding, "Period."

So if he knew up to 67% of us would not be able to keep our plans, who is the idiot for believing him when he said we would?

<quoted text>What is 'healthcare' to you morons? exactly... please explain--from what I can tell it is going to the doctor and getting pills or vaccinations. The norm in this country has now become if you are not on some kind of pharma--there is something wrong with you. They used to ask 'are you on any medicine?' Now they ask 'what medications are you on?' The whole 'healthcare' system is a joke. Americans are the most medicated people in the world AND YET Americans are considered the sickest people in the world.
I've gone to the doctor for years.

As a child, I did get the usual vaccinations and guess what? I am still alive. OMG how could that be?

Furthermore, iI went all those years & am on no medication.

Kind of kills your lame argument.

In a recent quite startling appearance in Phoenix, Arizona that was covered by every major Network News, it was revealed that Kathleen Sebelius believes that she does not work for “we the people” in general by making a comment specifically referring to those that do not support Obamacare (aka “The Affordable Healthcare Plan”).

The Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) made this starting admission by actually stating that she doesn’t work for the people that want her fired.

This was in response to a question at her appearance at an Obamacare Call Center for a news conference on October 24, 2013 in Arizona of “who was fired” for this massive website failure failure and was she going to resign.
