President Bush’s legacy has received renewed attention as the result of the opening of his presidential library. The Washington Post’s Jennifer Rubin uses a new poll showing Bush’s approval rating creeping up to 47 percent as a jumping off point for a full-throated defense of his time in office. This part jumped out at me:“He is responsible for one of the most popular and fiscally sober entitlement plans, Medicare Part D. He did not foist a grandiose unpopular and exorbitant program like Obamacare on the public.”
Saying that Medicare Part D is a “fiscally sober entitlement plan” is sort of like saying that somebody is quite temperate — for a heroin addict. In 2011, according to the Medicare Trustees, the federal government spent $53 billion on prescription drug subsidies through the program. None of that is paid for either through a revenue stream or cuts to existing government programs. However inadvisable or difficult to implement, Obamacare did include tax hikes and cuts to projected Medicare spending to pay for its new expenditures. With Medicare Part D, Bush didn’t even pretend that the law paid for itself on paper.
Also, as the chart demonstrates, the cost of the program to the federal government is projected to accelerate over time, reaching $117 billion in 2021. By comparison, Obamacare’s new insurance exchanges are expected to cost a similar $122 billion that year. Bush’s defenders might argue that Obamacare boosted Medicare Part D spending by making the subsidies more generous, which helps account for part of the projected growth of the program over the next decade. But I don’t view that as much as an excuse, because history has taught us that government programs expand over time, and if Bush didn’t consider this possibility in his drive to pass Medicare Part D before the 2004 election, that’s his own fault. In the long-run, Medicare Part D is running a $14.3 trillion deficit.
In his second term, Bush set out to reform Social Security. But his actual legacy on entitlements will be the largest (pre-Obamacare) expansion of them since Lyndon B. Johnson created Medicare and Medicaid in 1965. This, of course, is only a part of Bush’s disastrous fiscal record, which saw the federal budget spike from $1.86 trillion in 2001 to $2.98 trillion in 2008.
Bush’s legacy isn’t something for conservatives to celebrate. It’s something for them to mourn.

The guy the Republican opponent called "failed," "corrupt," "liberal," and an "Obama rubber stamp" responsible for "high taxes," "violent crime," "expensive failing schools," and "14 percent unemployment" WON. LMAO. It's a sign of things to come.

I thought the Tea Party was well over, dead, not really anything at all--But Thankfully that JOE Biden, the old guy that handles Barack Hussein's Toilet paper rolls was let out of the closet:

COLORADO SPRINGS, October 27, 2013—Addressing the Democratic National Committee’s Women’s Leadership Forum on Friday, Joe Biden spilled the beans. He told the assembled group that the TEA Party represents the biggest threat to their “collective agenda.” He meant, of course, their “collectivist agenda,” but he can be forgiven for making another verbal gaffe.

This is the problem for the socialists who have taken over the Democrat Party: how to sound moderate and even caring while at the same time pursuing a radical collectivist agenda.
Conservatives can also be forgiven for not really understanding the left. Many regularly waste time and energy pointing out the supposed hypocrisy of the left. For example, they point out that while the Democrat-controlled Congress foisted Obamacare on the American people against our will, they managed to exclude themselves. While they claim to be the party of equality, they give themselves special privileges; they elevate themselves into a ruling class.

THE DEMOCRATS ARE AFRAID OF THE TEA PARTY--JOE BIDEN SAID SO.

There really isn’t any question of which approach is factually correct: right on the front page of the Times edition of December 21 is a chart that shows the growth of home ownership in the United States since 1990. In 1993 it was 63 percent; by the end of the Clinton administration it was 68 percent. The growth in the Bush administration was about 1 percent. The Times itself reported in 1999 that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were under pressure from the Clinton administration to increase lending to minorities and low-income home buyers—a policy that necessarily entailed higher risks. Can there really be a question, other than in the fevered imagination of the Times, where the push to reduce lending standards and boost home ownership came from?"

the demorats, of course.

It's worth noting seniors pay an estimated $1,000,000,000 a year for their Part D medicines, Oblamer's Obamascare freeloaders will pay zero. Also worth noting that all of will get old, if we're lucky.

Lying, scumbag, worthless POS libs would have been crucifying Bush if he would have vetoed any such plan put forth by demorats, as they do in fact do any time a republican expresses opposition to more demorat give aways.

Cut any federal spending under Ostupida? Can't do it, not one dime.

Yep, that loudmouth loser never would have had his own show on tv if one of the news networks hadn't been so eager to kiss Obama's butt after he demanded that producers put more black faces on the screen. Too bad Sharpton's network chose the most obnoxious Obama minion they find to promote as an oracle of progressive social reform. I think we all know what Obama's favorite flavor of reform is.

There are none so blind as they who will not see:

"Sure enough, according to data published by the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University, from 2001 through 2006, the share of all mortgage originations that were made up of conventional mortgages (that is, the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage that had always been the mainstay of the U.S. mortgage market) fell from 57.1 percent in 2001 to 33.1 percent in the fourth quarter of 2006. Correspondingly, sub-prime loans (those made to borrowers with blemished credit) rose from 7.2 percent to 18.8 percent, and Alt-A loans (those made to speculative buyers or without the usual underwriting standards) rose from 2.5 percent to 13.9 percent. Although it is difficult to prove cause and effect, it is highly likely that the lower lending standards required by the CRA influenced what banks and other lenders were willing to offer to borrowers in prime markets. Needless to say, most borrowers would prefer a mortgage with a low down payment requirement, allowing them to buy a larger home for the same initial investment."

I'm sure Doorknob Dave will be frothing at the mouth when he reads the truth.

More:

"From the current handwringing, you’d think that the banks came up with the idea of looser underwriting standards on their own, with regulators just asleep on the job. In fact, it was the regulators who relaxed these standards—at the behest of community groups and “progressive” political forces.… For years, rising house prices hid the default problems since quick refinances were possible. But now that house prices have stopped rising, we can clearly see the damage done by relaxed loan standards."

Polls: Republican, Tea Party Brand Badly Damaged During Shutdown

There was little in the findings for the GOP to feel good about. The party’s image has sunk to an all-time low in Post-ABC surveys, with 32 percent of the public saying they have a favorable opinion and 63 percent saying they have an unfavorable view. Almost four in 10 Americans have a strongly unfavorable view of the GOP.

The tea party fares just as badly. Barely a quarter of the public has a favorable image of the movement, the lowest rating in Post-ABC polling.
