Conservatives Misunderstand What Went Wrong Under Bush
You'd swear from today's rhetoric that the problem was too much compromise. Nope.
The Tea Party is composed largely of Republicans who supported George W. Bush when he was the GOP standard-bearer, voting for him twice and criticizing him far less frequently than they defended him, only to rebel against his record at the end of his second term. At that point, partisan loyalty and shared hatred of liberals finally gave way to the realization that the GOP's time in power was a disaster for conservatives.
Humans seldom look inward when assigning blame for bygone disasters, and the story conservatives have settled on seems to be that establishment Republicans have long been selling them out by failing to fight hard enough. As a Fox News commentator put it, echoing talking points used by many hardliners, "I’m sure we will hear establishment apologists calling the events of recent days a compromise. But seeing how the president refused to compromise, it’s more likely the Grand Old Party was the only one bending. Establishment Republicans always talk about doing the right thing for the nation, no matter the price. But when push comes to shove, they always throw in the towel."
What ought to be evident, when Tea Partiers reflect on what they disliked about the Bush years, is that neither insufficient fight nor excessive compromise was the problem. The Iraq War, the most disastrous, budget-busting initiative of the aughts, occurred when the GOP establishment fought for war and didn't give up. The K Street Project involved neither capitulation nor compromising with Democrats. And conservatives were pleased when the establishment "threw in the towel" on immigration reform and the Harriet Miers nomination.
Many in the Tea Party seem to have conflated compromising one's principles, a bad thing, with negotiating to reach agreements that make both sides better off. The latter kind of compromise is the only way American government can function when power is divided. There is no logical reason that it should be regarded by conservatives as a dirty word—the Bush years weren't bad for conservatives because of negotiated deals that gave both sides some of what they wanted.
Pretending that compromise is what went wrong during the Bush years helps conservatives evade responsibility for supporting an agenda many parts of which they find indefensible in hindsight. It permits them to blame Democrats and establishment Republicans for events they themselves only rebelled against after the fact, and to delude themselves into thinking that everything will get better if only they vehemently insist on getting their way, sans compromise, all of the time.
Who wouldn't want to believe that's all success takes? It's a pretty lie that talk-radio hosts find it easy to tell over and over again, despite contrary evidence, because conservatives want to believe that it's true. Reality is much harder to face. In order to mount a comeback and wield influence in American politics, conservatives need to face their own flaws, negotiate savvy compromises with President Obama and Democrats, build credibility and momentum with small gains in the short term, persuade people of their ideas and governing vision in the medium term, and implement their agenda by winning elections rather than brinkmanship. But hard truths don't attract a large enough audience to sustain a radio show.
Well the OBAMA supporters sure got OBAMACARE confused along with almost everything about Obama including his Kenyan American Heritage

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama will declare the glitches in a new health care website "unacceptable" on Monday and outline ways for consumers to sign up for insurance while his team scrambles to fix problems that have tainted the rollout of his signature health care law.

Someone should tell him his "signature law" was tainted from the get-go.

In fact, his entire administration has been one big glitch after another.

Liberian-American Shot Dead in Trenton A 21-year old Liberian-American was Thursday evening, April 11, 2013 shot dead while sitting in his car in Trenton, New Jersey by unknown gunman or gunmen.

According to a source close to Cornelius Boakai’s family, the Trenton resident was shot four times in the back on Stuyvesant Street and was rushed to the area hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

The source said he had just dropped off his girlfriend home who attends Rutgers University and was about to leave for home too when he met his untimely death.

He was a student at the Mercy Community College in Mercy County, New Jersey and a graduate of the Trenton High School.

The source described him as a “very friendly and sociable kid who would visit all of his family members.” She said it is difficult for the Boakai family of Trenton to cope with the tragic loss of the last of their five children.

Meanwhile, the Trenton Police Department is investigating the shooting death of Cornelius Boakai who was born in the United States of Liberian parents.

Our Imperative for Coexistence: Countering Looming Distrust and Tensions (Commentary)Liberia is a deeply divided society: politically, socially, economically, religiously, and even culturally. We have yet not learned the necessary and essential craft of taking optimal advantage of its diversity. Discrimination and inequality are serious and pervasive problems when large segments of the population still lives in abject poverty. Common courtesies are quite scarce in daily life.

These are not surprising since we are just emerging from a prolonged civil war that crystallized our divisions along ethnic lines in particular. We have now normalized difference, denigration of difference, disagreements, anger, and conflicts in our way of life. The tension from unspoken hurt that people feel is still latent. Tremendous energy is being spent holding onto wounds from the past. Unfortunately, our political discourse has become mired by repeated disagreements across various aisles: the executive, the legislative, within political parties, religious entities, etc. And with an abounding number of vulnerable populations, those Liberians who enjoy and benefit from conflicts have easy preys to exploit.

After nearly two decades of bloodshed, distrust, and uneasy coexistence, we have realized peace, although fragile. How can we atone for the injustices that we meted out at one another so that we can bring about a Liberian sense of nationhood? How can we sustain the emerging peace that we have managed to build; and avoid the steps that rendered our country a failed state; and made us second class citizens around the world clamoring for livelihood?

In recent times, the theme that has grasped the popular imagination is the debate whether or not Liberia is a Christian nation. Zealots on one side or the other (Christians and Moslems alike) have tended to scuffle over the question – Should Liberia remain a secular state or not? Time has come for keen observers to sit up and notice. Time has come to add sensible voice to this national debate of grave concern.

This story seem Ironic Who are the Real Extortionists and Hustlers?
President Sirleaf anger directed at the press and critics who have accused her government for corruption, nepotism and muzzling of the press through the kangaroo court system is misdirected and thoughtless. Her anger clearly demonstrate a President that is out of touch and live in a bubble surrounded by her network of cronies and family members in her government.

The President while commissioning her newly appointed and recycled government officials lashed out at her critics and the press admonishing them that they were “assuming public service and responsibility in a difficult political environment one when those who wrongly accuse, defame and attack you become the victors; when you adhere to the principles of your upbringing and your faith, you become a victim of blackmail and extortion; when hustlers become heroes through poisonous pens; when you refuse to join the clamor of rumor mongering and lies, your silence is mistaken as weakness to be exploited. In such circumstances, she urged them “to continue to stand firm and strong.”

Really, Madame President? That those who have stood up to you to criticize the performance of your government are extortionists and hustlers is laughable. Your lack of leadership especially in the fight against corruption is stunning. If anyone had told me few years ago that your leadership would be a total disaster I would have told them they were mistaken since I was a sympathizer who truly believes in your leadership to the extent that I contributed $100 to your first campaign for president.

Now, I will tell you who are the real extortionists and hustlers. They are the sons and daughters of your political friends and cronies who you brought from the United States and appointed to government positions with astronomical salaries per month while hospitals go empty without medicines. The real hustlers are your cronies who despite living in the United States have no professional skills and experiences yet you appointed them to high positions in government with excessive salaries and yet schools go empty without teachers and instructional materials. It must be pointed out that these officials were not making that kind of salaries while working in the United States yet you find it fitting to pay them these exorbitant salaries in the face of extreme poverty. These are the real extortionists and hustlers not Rodney Sieh or member of the press and your critics who have accused your government of widespread corruption.

To say that somebody like Chris Toe was wrongly accused, defamed and attacked by the media as you are suggesting when in fact the reporting by Frontpageafrica and other media outlets was based on your own General Auditing Commission (GAC) audit findings just demonstrate your lack of moral courage to go after the corrupt officials you have imported from the United States. If you really think that officials like Chris Toe were falsely accused and defamed, why not have them have their days in court? Even if you bribe the jurors as was the case with Mr. Sieh at least we know they had their days in court to clear their names.

Only in Liberia in which government officials who made out like bandits do not change their charcoal pinstripe suits for prison jumpsuits rather roam the streets of Monrovia and fly back and forth from the United States with their ill-conceived wealth. Of course, they have the president protecting them by venting her anger at people who dare to challenge and expose the pervasive corruption.

Look Madam President, when Transparency International (TI) ranked your government as one of the most corrupt governments on earth you need to take a look at yourself and do some soul searching instead of name calling honest people extortionists and hustlers. Your anger and utterance directed at your critics is injudicious and suggest that you live in an alternative universe.

Seems really ironic

Nation That Waited Decades to Pass Health Care Infuriated by Slow Web Site

Posted by Andy Borowitz

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—A nation that waited several decades for health insurance is becoming increasingly infuriated by a Web site that is wasting minutes of its time, reports from across the United States confirm.

The official Web site of Obamacare, , has been plagued by glitches, crashes, and sluggishly loading pages, say millions of angry Americans attempting to log on to the site at exactly the same time.

“Look, I know that we had to wait longer for health care than virtually every other industrialized nation on earth,” said Tracy Klugian, a muffler salesman from Akron, Ohio.“But the time I spent on that Web site is thirty-five minutes I’ll never get back.”

Sharing what he called his “Obamacare horror story,” Mr. Klugian said,“Being on that Web site slowed down our wi-fi so much that my kids couldn’t stream videos. For a so-called health-care program, it’s causing a lot of stress that’s the opposite of healthy, if you ask me.”

Harland Dorrinson, a gym manager from Knoxville, Tennessee, had an Obamacare nightmare of his own, having to log on to the site “two completely different times” before getting health insurance for the first time in his life.

“President Obama said he was going to make health care affordable and available to millions of Americans,” he said, bitterly.“He didn’t tell us it would take more than an hour.”

MORE IRONY FROM AFRICA Open Letter To The Honorable House Of Representatives Of The Republic Of Liberia: Impeach The President Mr. Speaker, members of the House of Representatives, fellow citizens, and friends:

It deeply saddens me to note that after many years of a brutal civil war; a war that divided our country; that uprooted our family trees, and took away hundreds of thousands of innocent lives; where looters plundered and desecrated the entire country; a war that finally put us 100 years backward; we the citizens of this republic, are once again witnessing the same vices that ignited the civil war perpetrated by those who advocated and financed the bloody genocide and desecration of our country.

There’s no justification for the 17 years of wanton killings in a senseless war, where vultures looted, ransacked and desecrated our country. And for those war mongers who claimed that their plans were to purposely eliminate: corruption, nepotism among tribalism, and social injustices, then let me say this publicly that your civil war was MEANINGLESS… And to the perpetrators who slaughtered and dealt with our people inhumanely during the war under the pretense of cleaning up our political woes, that you all have failed miserably, as innocent lives were taken for vanity. For it appears that the true and singular intention of the chief and other architects of reckless killings during the senseless civil war was centered on self aggrandizement.

Under the watch of President Sirleaf, Liberia now ranked: The most corrupt nation on the face of the earth. Government officials who embezzle state coffers get away with impunity, yet the organic law of this land, the constitution, forbids this type of misconduct. And after seven years of corrupt practices, and in cases where our constitution is grossly violated, I see no reason why Mrs. Sirleaf should continue to serve this nation as President.

No president or leader is above the law of this land, and that is why our constitution clothed us with the authority to take necessary steps to safe guide the republic.

Article 5 (c) of the Liberian Constitution states: The Republic shall take steps, by appropriate legislation and executive orders, to eliminate sectionalism and tribalism, and such abuses of power as the misuse of government resources, nepotism and all other corrupt practices.

For more than seven consecutive years, President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has failed in upholding Article 5 (c) of the Liberian constitution, and as such must not be allowed to continue serving as Chief Executive of Liberia.

Her Vice-President, Joseph Boakai, has openly and unilaterally announced to this body and the rest of the world that he has no interest in ascending to the presidency when his boss resigns. The constitution is also clear on that matter:

Article 62 of the Liberian constitution states: The President and the Vice-President may be removed from office by impeachment for treason, bribery and other felonies, violation of the Constitution or gross misconduct.

Article 64 of the Liberian constitution also states: Whenever the office of the President and of the Vice-President shall become vacant by reason of removal, death, resignation, inability or other disability of the President and the Vice-President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives shall be sworn in as Acting President until the holding of elections to fill the vacancies so created. Should the Speaker be legally incapable or otherwise unable to assume the office of Acting President, then the same shall devolve upon the President Pro Tempore of the Senate. In any further line of descent, the office shall devolve in order upon the Deputy Speaker and members of the Cabinet in the order of precedence as established by law. The Elections Commission shall within ninety days conduct elections for a new President and a new Vice President.

It is very transparent that rampant corruption is prevalent in the Liberian government and officials are not prosecuted. Numerous pleas have been made for the President to take actions and persecute her corrupt officials and to obey the Liberian Constitution. But her office neglected to listen to the Liberian people. She has only paid lip services, and deliberately refused to take concrete actions or turned over her corrupt officials to face prosecution.

For more than seven years, President Sirleaf failed to execute any executive order to prosecute corrupt officials, especially those in government who are closed relatives or friends; she also failed to act on the GAC reports.

Obama was all for a war with Afghanistan. He called it the "right war", don't you remember?

Giving those with "bad credit histories" a home was a bad idea shared by both parties.

Tax cuts, also known as putting more money into the hands of those who earn it, is ALWAYS a better idea. Anyone with a functioning brain knows that a "budget surplus" is a fantasy.

Obama doesn't care about the country. He cares only about destroying any and all opposition to his party's socialist ideologies by any means necessary.
