What’s Behind the Increase in Part-Time Work?

Part-time work spiked during the recent recession and has stayed stubbornly high, raising concerns that elevated part-time employment represents a “new normal” in the labor market.

The share of employed individuals working part time rose from about 17% in 2007 just before the recession to nearly 20% in 2009 and stayed near that level through mid-2013.

Temp work is way up, too.

New 'deadline' for fixing Obamacare glitches seen in mid-November
The U.S. administration has a little over a month to fix the technology problems crippling its online health insurance marketplace, or jeopardize the goal of signing up millions of Americans in time for benefits under President Barack Obama's healthcare law, experts said on Thursday.

That doesn't even come close to describing the problems with ObamaKKKare.

Have you guys really thought this out... or are you just singing a song you heard on Fox News?
I REALLY wish there were people here who could actually discuss and debate real ideas and political policies.... guess I'm in the wrong place and will move along.
But you guy's need to understand that you are not contributing to anything substantial by trading insults. As long as the poor people are kept ignorant and arguing with each other ... the rich are safe and we will continue to be slaves to the corporations.
I sincerely hope things turn out well for you folks... but I fear they will not. The middle class is slowly being destroyed and you are being told that this is a good thing. Yet!!!... you believe it.... very sad.
Oh, don't leave. Republicans never discuss and debate. They bully. You'll get used to it.

They attack purely to shut up the opposition. They do it all the time. Then, they pat themselves on the back at their prowess. It's better to stick around and be the voice of reason and a thorn in their side than leave them to feed off of each other's negativity, like parasites feeding off of each other. It's not good for America to let them believe they are right.

Sunlight foundation released the names of groups involved in this debacle. There was like 30 of them. Many of them with lobbyist and most campaign donors.

With so many fingers in the pot is there any reason to ask why this became such a tangled up mess that no one can sort out the code.

PS Obama did close the Amber Alert page.

There is no "skyrocketing number of part-time workers" tied to Obamacare.
Here's the list....how many Full-time workers do you see cut to part-time?

And, no one is being forced to join the exchange. If they have insurance now and it is cheaper...keep it. The exchange obviously isn't for them. Geez
WASHINGTON, Aug 21 (Reuters)- U.S. businesses are hiring at a robust rate. The only problem is that three out of four of the nearly 1 million hires this year are part-time and many of the jobs are low-paid.

Faltering economic growth at home and abroad and concern that President Barack Obama's signature health care law will drive up business costs are behind the wariness about taking on full-time staff, executives at staffing and payroll firms say.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/21/part...

Today, more than 8 million Americans are working part-time jobs because they can't find full-time work according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Many small businesses are not employing more than 50 workers due to the unknown costs of Obamacare and cutting back employees to part-time to avoid having to provide health care benefits.

Where have you been? This is not new.

We have paid almost 700 million for a project that was budgeted for 93 million then we end up with a barely functioning insecure website.

I wish a second try would produce better results.

What sucks is the code really is not that complicated but I am sure it has been bloated to be the size of the Healthcare law by now.

Maybe you need to look at the list-there is plenty of examples of job cuts.
Better yet when the BLS is up again look at the increasing percentage of part time jobs.
The increase in part-time jobs has nothing to do with Obamacare. Part-time jobs have been increasing since 2006. That's a FACT.

Well, the whole thing is just nuts.

Obama wouldn't even agree to a temporary raise in the debt ceiling offered by Republicans because they still want to make a few changes in his prized obsession, Obamacare, to put an end to the shutdown.

Hard to believe this strictly partisan law with so many unintended consequences is so completely off limits to Republicans who only want a few concessions representing the majority who are still against it.

Obama just doesn't anyone to touch his things.

So he and Reid will continue to come up with new ways to make us suffer.

Obama's approval has dropped to 37%. Where was that noted on that website?
An Associated Press-GfK survey found that just 5% approve of the job being done by senators and representatives.
That would be both parties in Congress.
53% disapprove of how Barack Obama is handling his job.
