More Hell Coming to DC as Misinformed Right Wing Truckers Prepare to Invade

MSNBC host Ed Schultz accused right-wing talk hosts of co-opting “the very people that they’ve done nothing for” in encouraging a group of truck drivers in their attempt to blunt traffic around Washington D.C. on Friday in the “Ride For The Constitution” demonstration.
“If you’re a trucker, may I ask you tonight: What in the hell have Republicans done for you?” Schultz said.“They’ve let subsidies run wild to the oil companies. They’ve done nothing to reel in the speculation on Wall Street because they don’t want any regulation whatsoever. They want all deregulation. Tell me, what have the Republicans done for you independent truckers out there on your own, the entrepreneurs of America, what have they done for you? I’ll tell you — nothing.”
After speculating that “probably most” of the demonstrators will be armed, Schultz described them as angry people with a barrage of complaints, but directed at the wrong source in President Barack Obama.
“They’re upset about high fuel prices,” Schultz pointed out.“Really? What have the Republicans done about that? Not a damn thing. In fact, I think these truckers, they ought to find out who exactly is in favor of big oil subsidies.”
It was also easy, Schultz argued, for conservative elements to make “low-information” voters upset about issues like regulations or the debt limit.
“This is one angry and disturbed bunch of folks,” Schultz said.“And they have been listening to radio [hosts] all across the country who have been encouraging them to think that they really can do this and get away with it.”

Tea Party’s Strategy Is a Proven Loser

In any negotiation, it is inadvisable to make threats that aren’t credible. Probably the only thing worse is to threaten actions that will end up helping the other side. Yet the Tea Party-affiliated House Republicans aren’t simply making this very mistake with the government shutdown; they are gearing up to do it again, on a grander and more fatal scale, with the debt ceiling.

....It is commonly supposed that Republicans won’t experience public blowback because the House has become so polarized as a result of gerrymandering. But Senate and presidential elections cannot be fixed in this way. Among other things, the strategy of establishing conservative control over the Supreme Court seems likely to go out the window. Moderate Republicans such as Representative Charlie Dent of Pennsylvania have it right: theirs doesn’t look much like the party of responsible government.

against one tour group made up mostly of senior citizens at

Pat Vaillancourt went on a trip last week that was intended to
showcase some of America’s greatest treasures.
Instead, the Salisbury resident said she and others on her tour bus
witnessed an ugly spectacle that made her embarrassed, angry and
heartbroken for her country.
Vaillancourt was one of thousands of people who found
themselves in a national park as the federal government shutdown
went into effect on Oct. 1. For many hours her tour group, which
included senior citizen visitors from Japan, Australia, Canada and
the United States, were locked in a Yellowstone National Park
hotel under armed guard.
The tourists were treated harshly by armed park employees, she
said, so much so that some of the foreign tourists with limited
English skills thought they were under arrest.
When finally allowed to leave, the bus was not allowed to halt at
all along the 2.5-hour trip out of the park, not even to stop at
private bathrooms that were open along the route.
#15 Of course one of the most disturbing abuses of power is how
the Obama administration is using barricades and guards to keep
military veterans away from open air memorials such as the
World War II Memorial, the Vietnam War Memorial and the Iwo
Jima Memorial that are normally open to the public 24 hours a
day.
Nice summary of the closures of this shut down.

Polls: Public places more blame for shutdown on GOP

The ABC News/Washington Post poll, meanwhile, found that 70 percent of Americans disapprove of the way congressional Republicans are handling negotiations over the federal budget, while just 24 percent approve.(Last week, 26 percent approved of the GOP’s handling, and 63 percent disapproved.)

why is it that every poll headline reads something like 'GOP to blame'?

because they are.

We've kind of lost sight of what this whole government shutdown is all about.

Obama decided who gets a year's delay and who doesn't. Even presidents can't change laws even if it's their own.

People can't sign up for the exchanges after 3-1/2 years of planning and preparing at the expense of the taxpayers.

It's still a very unpopular law that's creating problems before it's even off the ground.

And Congress doesn't have to abide by the same rules s the rest of us.

So why would this president dig in his heels so adamantly rather than negotiate minor changes to this law?

It's not like Republicans aren't justified and are being totally unreasonable that everyone get the same delay as corporations and Congress not be exempt.

No one's mad Republicans don't support Obamacare.
No one's ready for Obamacare.
Many don't even want Obamacare.

And Obama won't even sit down to talk about how the debt ceiling in light of Obamacare.

In other words, Obama is shutting all doors to end the shutdown because of Obamacare and refueses to negotiate government spending with the debt ceiling because of Obamacare.

When has a president put his ego ahead of the country before in our history?

Conservative Columnist: Campaign Against Obamacare Is 'Suicide Of The Right'

Conservative columnist John Podhoretz wrote in a New York Post op-ed published Wednesday that Republican lawmakers are doing "significant damage" to their party's already tarnished reputation by assuming the American public supports their campaign against Obamacare.

Podhoretz's column, titled "Suicide of the Right," points out that poll numbers showing Americans disapprove of Obamacare, combined with the data point that twice as many Americans identify themselves as conservative rather than liberal, have incorrectly led the GOP to assume a "silent majority" backs their strategy.

From the op-ed:

If ObamaCare had been as unpopular as conservatives believed, their plan for the shutdown — that there would be a public uprising to force Democratic senators in close races in 2014 to defund it — would’ve worked. It didn’t. Not a single senator budged.

Their tactic failed, and now what they are left with is House Speaker John Boehner basically begging the president of the United States to negotiate with him.

One thing we know for sure is that it’s not an equal fight, this fight between a man who received 65 million votes nationwide and a man who received 246,000 votes in one congressional district in Ohio.
