The GOP’s Misinformation Problem in Action
Robert Costa explains why there are so many Republicans in Congress committed to an effort that is certain to fail:
And so many of these members now live in the conservative world of talk radio and tea party conventions and Fox News invitations. And so the conservative strategy of the moment, no matter how unrealistic it might be, catches fire. The members begin to believe they can achieve things in divided government that most objective observers would believe is impossible [bold mine-DL]. Leaders are dealing with these expectations that wouldn’t exist in a normal environment.
Costa’s explanation seems to be the only way to account for Republican behavior that otherwise makes no sense. Picking an extremely unpopular fight that they are sure to lose doesn’t serve the party’s interests, and it doesn’t even seem to serve the longer-term interests of individual members. The trouble is that the Republicans most eager to have this fight may believe that they can prevail somehow, and they seem to be encouraged in this belief because they are relying on the same sources of misinformation that have served them so poorly in the past.
It is as if no one learned anything from the experience of the party-wide delusion that Romney was going to win the election. Some Republicans are making all of the same mistakes that they made when they ignored all of the evidence suggesting that the GOP was likely to lose in 2012. Most of the time, the echo chamber hurts conservatives and Republicans by making them oblivious to inconvenient facts and ideas, but in this case it is leading them to believe in an alternate political reality with its own set of rules. In that alternative reality, a pointless, self-defeating effort becomes a clever political strategy, and obnoxious and politically toxic tactics are treated as normal and appropriate.

Shut the government down. The government spends less money when it is shut down than when it is operating (what the government thinks is) normally. The most critical threat to the existence of our government is the out of control spending. It is certain the government will collapse if the current trend isn't stopped.
If the government can't save itself, we have to save it from itself.
Find any reason or excuse to shut this insane government spending itself into suicide.
Shut the government down until they can get a budget that doesn't guarantee certain collapse of the government passed by both the Senate and the House.
The only thing the Democrats and RINOs understand is shutting the government down. So, shut the government down until they grow up.

I did. The only people arrested were libtard loons trying to create a scene except for one old man who got upset when some punk tried to take his 'Do Tread On Me' flag. Even then all he did was shove a person away.

we have succeeded! yay, hooray! we forced those fargutz to shut downthe govment. This means that the next step, the big-un, is in the chute. Yay! God bless us, all. When we stop the debt ceiling we will be able to charge anything we deem righto for the country to borrow, easy 5, 6, 7 times more than what they now pay. Also all those services folks just line up for; security, libraries, parks, food, medicie care, socialist security, education...ALL can now begin to set up shop as for profits. PRIVATIZE eberything, cause folks still want everything and we have shut it all down and so we can sell it all back to them. Sell it all back at the highest price. WE ARE GONE TO BE RICH!!!!!

Why the Shutdown Looks So Bad for the GOP
Not only are they taking the blame, but the Republican party’s divisions, fissures, and personal animosities are taking center stage.
During the Great Polling Disconnect of 2012, the Obama campaign, the press, and a number of pollsters thought that Barack Obama would win his second presidential election. Republicans and the Romney campaign were equally convinced the polls were flawed: The electorate would behave differently on Election Day.
There was a clear loser in that experiment. We're facing a similar test now with the government shutdown. Public opinion polls show overwhelming opposition to the GOP strategy. Republican Sen. John McCain tweeted a Quinnipiac poll Tuesday morning that shows 72 percent of Americans oppose Congress “shutting down major activities of the federal government” as a way to stop the Affordable Care Act from going into effect.
For the conservatives pushing the showdown over the president's health care plan, those numbers are either wrong or changeable. We're about to find out which side is right.
In the first hours of the shutdown, the terrain looks very bad for Republicans. It's amazing how consistent the polls have been about linking a confrontation over the Affordable Care Act to funding of the government. While polls show the public disapproves of the law, it has consistently told pollsters it is not in favor of tying government operations to defunding the health care plan. In addition to the Quinnipiac poll, the polls from CBS, CNN, CNBC, National Journal, and Kaiser show this. As GOP Sen. Jeff Flake said, Republicans have found the one gambit less popular than Obamacare.

You can't be that wet behind the ears. The liberal media is always going to point the finger at Republicans. The Democrats would have it no other way - especially when the liberal media makes sure their fellow liberals get elected.

It's a mutual understanding, you see.

Why do you people hate Obama so much? Interesting question. Why it is that the election of this President spurred the birth of the Obama hating Tea Party. After just 3 weeks in office no less. Not while Bush was doubling the debt & driving this country into the ground. Nooooooooo. But after Obama was elected.
So, do you think that if MvcCain would have won in 2000, would we see the Tea Party formed?

How is someone who was a college dropout at Occidental, never attended classes at Columbia, and was admitted to Harvard only because of high level contacts in the Communist Party USA, and who never wrote the first piece of legislation in his entire history of being in government, etc., etc., etc., even qualified to be president, let alone the most qualified? Obama is a total fraud. Nothing being said about him is true. Nothing.
But, that is inconsequential. Obama is nothing more than a cardboard cutout of a commercial to make it look like someone's actually president. He doesn't have a clue what's going on in government. His only function is to read prescripted messages from a teleprompter and sign documents as he is ordered. Vallerie Jarrett is the actual president.
So, why did you vote for Vallerie Jarrett?

“Conservative” Bush Spends More than “Liberal” Presidents Clinton, Carter

The Bush administration’s newly released budget projections reveal an anticipated budget deficit of $450 billion for the current fiscal year, up another $151 billion since February. Supporters and critics of the administration are tripping over themselves to blame the deficit on tax cuts, the war, and a slow economy. But the fact is we have mounting deficits because George W. Bush is the most gratuitous big spender to occupy the White House since Jimmy Carter. One could say that he has become the “Mother of All Big Spenders.”

The new estimates show that, under Bush, total outlays will have risen $408 billion in just three years to $2.272 trillion: an enormous increase in federal spending of 22 percent. Administration officials privately admit that spending is too high. Yet they argue that deficits are appropriate in times of war and recession. So, is it true that the war on terrorism has resulted in an increase in defense spending? Yes. And, is it also true that a slow economy has meant a decreased stream of tax revenues to pay for government? Yes again.

But the real truth is that national defense is far from being responsible for all of the spending increases. According to the new numbers, defense spending will have risen by about 34 percent since Bush came into office. But, at the same time, non-defense discretionary spending will have skyrocketed by almost 28 percent. Government agencies that Republicans were calling to be abolished less than 10 years ago, such as education and labor, have enjoyed jaw-dropping spending increases under Bush of 70 percent and 65 percent respectively.

Now, most rational people would cut back on their spending if they knew their income was going to be reduced in the near future. Any smart company would look to cut costs should the business climate take a turn for the worse. But the administration has been free spending into the face of a recessionary economy from day one without making any serious attempt to reduce costs.

You forgot a few jobs.

Herman Cain (born December 13, 1945)[4] is an American author, business executive, radio host, syndicated columnist, and Tea Party activist from Georgia.[5][6][7] He was a candidate for the 2012 U.S. Republican Party presidential nomination.[5]

Cain grew up in Georgia and graduated from Morehouse College in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics.[8] Cain pursued graduate studies at Purdue University, and graduated with a Master of Science in computer science in 1971,[9] while also working full-time for the U.S. Department of the Navy.[10] In 1977, he joined Pillsbury Company in Minneapolis where he later became vice president.[11] During the 1980s, his success as a business executive at Burger King prompted Pillsbury Company to appoint him as chairman and CEO of Godfather's Pizza, in which capacity he served from 1986 to 1996.[12]

Cain was chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City Omaha Branch from 1989 to 1991.[13] He was deputy chairman, from 1992 to 1994, and chairman, from 1995 to 1996, of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.[13] In 1995, Cain was appointed by Newt Gingrich to the Kemp Commission,[14] and was a senior economic advisor to the Bob Dole presidential campaign.[15] Cain became the CEO of the National Restaurant Association,[16] in which he served as president and CEO from 1996 to 1999.[16] During the Presidency of Bill Clinton, Cain publicly opposed the Clinton health care plan of 1993, about which he questioned the president at a town hall meeting.[17] Cain has served as a member of the board of directors of several companies, including Aquila, Inc., Nabisco, Whirlpool, Reader's Digest, and AGCO.[12][18][19]
